Artistic Inquiry As A Critical Disability Studies Methodology: Interdisciplinarity By Queer, Trans, And Gender Non-Conforming Disabled Artists, Brandi Lewis Sep 2026

Artistic Inquiry As A Critical Disability Studies Methodology: Interdisciplinarity By Queer, Trans, And Gender Non-Conforming Disabled Artists, Brandi Lewis

Education Studies Faculty publications

Arts-based and artistic research as a critical disability studies (CDS) methodology is an artistic inquiry into material practices and social conditions around disabled lives, communities, and care systems that support justice and liberation for disabled people. This article examines interdisciplinary practices of queer, trans, and gender non-conforming disabled artists as forms of research. Artists Rora Blue, Alex Dolores Salerno, Yo-Yo Lin 林友友, and Finnegan Shannon critique social hierarchies and exclusions by deconstructing normative ideologies about access and embodiment. Through crip politics, their approaches explore disability’s entanglement with ableist, colonial cis/hetero/patriarchy. Artistic inquiry as a CDS methodology moves beyond disability as …

Guardians In Orbit: Legal Justifications And Limits Of Defensive Satellite Operations, Yurika Ishii

International Law Studies

The deployment of “bodyguard satellites”—spacecraft designed to autonomously detect and counter hostile space objects—has moved from classified capability development to explicit national security policy across a growing number of States. This article examines the circumstances under which interference with another State’s satellite may be legally justified under international law, analyzing several possible grounds: self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter, forcible countermeasures, non-forcible countermeasures, and necessity. Drawing on a survey of national space defense policies, jurisprudence of the International Court of Justice, and the law of State responsibility, the article reaches two principal conclusions. First, across all justificatory frameworks, …

Sustainable Machine Intelligence Journal

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a major public health challenge, and scalable non-invasive risk-stratification tools are needed. We benchmarked 11 machine-learning classifiers on a publicly available global structured Alzheimer's prediction dataset (N = 74,283; 24 predictors) using leakage-safe sklearn/imblearn pipelines. Four resampling strategies were assessed with stratified cross-validation; preprocessing included imputation, IQR-based outlier capping, feature engineering, one-hot encoding, and standardization. The leading models underwent HalvingRandomSearchCV optimization, followed by soft-voting and stacking ensembles. Performance was evaluated on a held-out 20% test set and interpreted with SHAP, permutation importance, and built-in feature importance. No resampling was selected in Stage A (composite score = …

Anti-Fuzzy Hypergraphs And Superhypergraphs: Max-Oriented Uncertainty Models For Higher-Order And Hierarchical Networks, Takaaki Fujita, Ajoy Kanti Das, Suman Das, Sankar Prasad Mondal Sep 2026

Anti-Fuzzy Hypergraphs And Superhypergraphs: Max-Oriented Uncertainty Models For Higher-Order And Hierarchical Networks, Takaaki Fujita, Ajoy Kanti Das, Suman Das, Sankar Prasad Mondal

Sustainable Machine Intelligence Journal

Hypergraphs extend classical graphs by allowing hyperedges to connect more than two vertices, while superhypergraphs further generalize this framework through iterated powerset constructions that capture hierarchical and nested incidence structures. Within fuzzy graph theory, anti-fuzzy graphs provide max-oriented uncertainty models in which each edge grade is at least the maximum grade of its incident vertices. However, corresponding max-oriented frameworks for hypergraphs and superhypergraphs have not been systematically developed. To address this gap, we introduce anti-fuzzy hypergraphs and anti-fuzzy superhypergraphs, formulate their mathematical definitions, and establish basic well-definedness and canonical representation results. These models provide a unified foundation for max-based …

Seamounts are prominent seafloor features that strongly influence geological processes, ocean circulation, and benthic biodiversity. Despite their importance, most seamounts remain unmapped and poorly characterized, particularly in the southeast Pacific Ocean, a region recognized for high marine endemism and ecological isolation. In this study, we present a quantitative habitat characterization of a previously undocumented seamount, informally named Solito Seamount, located between the Nazca–Desventuradas Marine Park and the Juan Fernández Archipelago, within Chile’s Exclusive Economic Zone. The seamount is a conical volcanic edifice approximately 37 km wide, rising >3,500 m above the surrounding abyssal plain. High-resolution multibeam bathymetry and backscatter intensity …

Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome Due To Post-Traumatic Osseous Tunnel Formation: A Rare Case And Surgical Management, Dev Y. Patel, Eshan Doshi, Fiona Zimmerman, Jamal Revolus, Michael Kimball, Michael Franco

Cooper Rowan Medical Journal

Tarsal tunnel syndrome (TTS) is classically a compressive neuropathy of the posterior tibial nerve beneath the flexor retinaculum, presenting with plantar foot pain and paresthesias. Standard surgical management of TTS involves release of the flexor retinaculum to decompress the nerve. We report a rare and unusual case of TTS in which the posterior tibial nerve was encased within a post-traumatic osseous tunnel accompanied by dense fibrotic tissue, representing an atypical and previously undescribed etiology of nerve entrapment. In this case, surgical decompression required a modified approach involving meticulous dissection of the tibial nerve from its encasement by heterotopic ossification and …

Assembling A Vignette Of Irish Police Masculinities Through Socio-Historical Rural Crime Research, Clay Darcy Sep 2026

Assembling A Vignette Of Irish Police Masculinities Through Socio-Historical Rural Crime Research, Clay Darcy

Research Outputs: 2025-Present

This paper assembles a vignette of Irish police masculinities from the 1940s and 1950s. Based on historical analysis of a volume of crimes compiled by members of An Garda Síochána (Ireland’s police and security service), and Irish newspaper records, this paper reveals how policing practices and masculinities converged through the detection and recording of rural crimes. An Garda Síochána was exclusively male at the time, and police officers were dominant instrumental figures in rural communities, operating within a tight culture of Catholic religiosity and state censorship. These circumstances allowed them to maintain an assemblage of masculinity that was built on …

The Representation Of Medical Humanities In Scott Mcpherson's Marvin's Room, Ahmed Abed Mohammed, Haitham Kamel Al-Zubaidi Sep 2026

The Representation Of Medical Humanities In Scott Mcpherson's Marvin's Room, Ahmed Abed Mohammed, Haitham Kamel Al-Zubaidi

Alustath Journal for Human and Social Sciences

This study is a critical attempt of reading Scott McPherson's Marvin's Room in the light of medical humanities in postmodern American drama, arguing that the play does not deal with illness as merely a medical case. Instead, it shows that illness becomes a human condition that changes the patients' bodies, their behaviors, families, homes and even the meaning of care. The study throws light on Bessie's leukemia, Marvin's chronic illness, Lee's return and the confined domestic space as related signs of suffering, responsibility, fear and possible reunion among the members of the family. Medical humanities is highly relevant to this …

Building Foundations For Kindergarten: Supporting Early Literacy And Social-Emotional Development, Alyssa M. Monroe

Masters Projects

School readiness is an important factor in students’ success in kindergarten, but there are different opinions about what school readiness means. Some perspectives emphasize social-emotional development, independence, and positive attitudes toward school, while others prioritize language, literacy, and academic skills (Brown, 2023). Research suggests that success in kindergarten can influence students’ long-term educational and life outcomes (Davoudzadeh, 2015). Therefore, understanding the expectations of kindergarten and the factors that contribute to school readiness is important for families, educators, and policymakers. This paper examines differing perspectives on school readiness and considers how families can support children in developing the skills needed to …

Continuous-Time Quantum Markov Chains And Discretizations Of P-Adic Schrödinger Equations: Comparisons And Simulations, Wilson A. Zuniga-Galindo, L. F. Chacón-Cortés

School of Mathematical & Statistical Sciences Faculty Publications

Continuous-time quantum walks (CTQWs) are a fundamental tool in the development of quantum algorithms. Recently, it was shown that discretizations of p-adic Schrödinger equations give rise to continuous-time quantum Markov chains (CTQMCs); this type of Markov chain includes the CTQWs constructed using adjacency matrices of graphs as a particular case. Unlike classical continuous-time Markov chains (CTMCs), the CTQMCs studied here do not satisfy the classical Chapman–Kolmogorov equation; this is a genuine quantum effect, due to the fact that the underlying unitary evolution composes at the level of probability amplitudes rather than probabilities, and we make precise the sense in …

Low-Income, Minority-Serving Public Schools In Southern California Have Disproportionately High Surface Temperatures, Joaquin Murillo, Gabriella R. Dauber, Joshua B. Fisher, Gregory R. Goldsmith

Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Sciences Faculty Articles and Research

Extensive evidence demonstrates that people from minority backgrounds often face unequal exposure to extreme heat and have less access to green space that can provide cooling relief. What is less clear is whether these inequities extend to students on school playgrounds, where high temperatures can affect physical health, social and emotional well-being, and learning. We paired high resolution, satellite remote sensing surface temperature data for all 615 of the public schools in Orange County, California (serving ca. 450,000 students) with data on neighborhood household income, race/ethnicity of school enrollment, distance from the coast, and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index as a …

Technical Disclosure Specification: The Topological Flux Replicator (Tfr) Protocol For Censorship-Resistant Desynchronized Grid Routing And Memory Manifolds (Spec-167), Christopher L. Eckes Sep 2026

Technical Disclosure Specification: The Topological Flux Replicator (Tfr) Protocol For Censorship-Resistant Desynchronized Grid Routing And Memory Manifolds (Spec-167), Christopher L. Eckes

Defensive Publications Series

This disclosure specifies the protocol architecture, mathematical modeling, and hardware-layer constraints for a decentralized, censorship-resistant grid routing system and non-volatile memory manifold. Current mesh communications and cloud storage models are structurally vulnerable to state-wide routing interdiction, targeted nodal blackouts, and top-down centralized configuration scrubbing.

The Topological Flux Replicator (TFR) protocol resolves these architectural failure modes by utilizing an asynchronous, desynchronized network state distribution model. By executing a math-native state matrix routing protocol directly across fragmented physical substrates, the network achieves structural permanence without relying on static central IP routing, persistent DNS architecture, or linear block inheritance. This document represents a …

Technical Disclosure Specification: The Spectral Synapse Protocol (Ssp) For Trans-Linguistic Machine-To-Machine Register Meshes (Spec-166), Christopher L. Eckes

Defensive Publications Series

This disclosure specifies the architectural topology, hardware compiler parameters, and math-native protocols for an integrated, semantic-to-spectral computing engine. Current multi-agent architectures operate within a high-overhead paradigm where decentralized processing nodes communicate internally via tokenized natural language strings ("speech"). This design introduces extreme latency, high token consumption, and systemic vulnerability to semantic prompt injection exploits.

The Spectral Synapse Protocol (SSP) eliminates this communicative overhead by segregating human text processing exclusively to the peripheral ingress/egress boundary gates. The internal processing mesh operates at full-throttle hardware speeds by utilizing a non-linguistic, sub-2-bit ternary state mapping system ("the brain"). This specification defines the linear …
