Decision Making Processes Of Adolescent Women About Entering Intimate, Long-Term Romantic Relationships, Jeannie Miller Mar 2026

Decision Making Processes Of Adolescent Women About Entering Intimate, Long-Term Romantic Relationships, Jeannie Miller

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

There is a high rate of women in their late 20s and early 30s that are in destructive relationships, many because of decisions that were made during adolescence . Little research has focused on understanding the decision making process of entering intimate, long-term romantic relationships from the viewpoint of adult women in their late 20s through 30s who made that decision during adolescence. This phenomenological study allowed for a greater understanding of adolescent decision making, specifically about entering intimate, long-term romantic relationships. The research questions were (a) What are the lived experiences of young women as they enter intimate, long-term …

Introduction Interventions that address household-level factors, including food insecurity (FI) and poverty, may reduce HIV risk and improve sexual and reproductive health (SRH) among adolescent girls and young women (AGYW).

Methods This cluster randomised controlled trial in Kenya assessed AGYW living in households of adults enrolled in Shamba Maisha (SM). SM was a multisectoral agricultural livelihood intervention designed to improve HIV health. At the trial end, we used linear and logistic regressions to compare differences between the intervention and control arms in FI, and mental health among AGYW-caregiver pairs and SRH outcomes among the AGYW, accounting for clusters with robust …

“We're Human. We Are Just Human”: Experiences Of Trans And Two-Spirit Individuals In The Midwest, Gwen Avery Donner Mar 2026

“We're Human. We Are Just Human”: Experiences Of Trans And Two-Spirit Individuals In The Midwest, Gwen Avery Donner

Honors Thesis

In the United States today, gender can be a hot button topic, seemingly controversial and assigned as political, and within conservative regions the topic of gender becomes more taboo. Unfortunately, this view can lead to the stigmatization and discrimination of individuals who fall outside of the socially constructed gender binary. In order to explore how living in the conservative landscape of the Midwest impacts individuals who reside outside of the gender binary, 11 semi-structured, qualitative interviews with Trans and/or Two-Spirit individuals were conducted in which they were asked about their lived experiences. The findings of the interviews revolved around two …

Effect Of Light Elements On The Melting Behavior Of Liquid Iron Alloys Under Earth’S Inner Core Boundary Conditions, Olaniyi Anisere Mar 2026

Effect Of Light Elements On The Melting Behavior Of Liquid Iron Alloys Under Earth’S Inner Core Boundary Conditions, Olaniyi Anisere

LSU Master's Theses

The temperature at Earth’s inner core boundary (ICB) is set by the melting temperature of the iron-rich outer core at core pressures, yet this remains uncertain because melting depends strongly on composition and pressure. Light elements are required to explain the core’s density deficit, but the identity, abundance, and combined influence of these elements on melting under ICB conditions are still debated. This thesis quantifies how candidate light elements modify the melting behavior of iron alloys at ICB-relevant pressures and uses these composition-dependent melting relations to constrain ICB temperature.

Melting relations were determined using molecular dynamics simulations in VASP accelerated …

From Marginalization To Prime Consideration: Nuclear Energy In Fragmented Climate Governance, Polarization, And The Age Of Ai, Abdullah Al Jaberi Mar 2026

From Marginalization To Prime Consideration: Nuclear Energy In Fragmented Climate Governance, Polarization, And The Age Of Ai, Abdullah Al Jaberi

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

In recent years, nuclear energy has remained sidelined in global climate discussions despite being the world’s second-largest source of low-carbon electricity. This dissertation examined why nuclear energy should be the global priority decarbonization strategy, based on an evaluation of its unique position across the following three dimensions: fragmented international climate governance, political polarization in democratic countries, and unprecedented baseload electricity demands created by artificial intelligence infrastructure. This study does not argue causal linkages among these dimensions; rather, it demonstrates that nuclear energy succeeds concurrently across all three. A mixed-methods approach was employed, including document analysis of bilateral agreements and official …

Temporally Modulated Acoustic Environment Alters Inferior Colliculus Tonotopy And Improves Neural Gap Encoding In Aged Cba/Caj Mice, Luis Franco-Waite

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Age-related hearing loss (ARHL) is an omnipresent and progressive decline of hearing that occurs later in life and affects a significant majority of the aged population. While the current accommodations for hearing loss focus on improving comfort and quality of life, they do not address the underlying neural aspects of ARHL. A novel approach for treatment is the augmented acoustic environment (AAE) which utilizes the innate plasticity of the nervous system in response to the external environment. The work presented here documents the research performed on passive noise exposures which target neural aspects in animal models of age-related hearing loss. …

Virtual Humans In Virtual Reality: A Scoping Review On Sociability, Fidelity, And Expression, J K Sangeeth Chandran, Marisa Llorens Salvador, Cathy Ennis

Articles

Introduction:

Virtual reality (VR) systems have evolved significantly over the past decade, enabling immersive experiences with enhanced realism and interactivity. This has motivated an interest in socially oriented applications. As user proxies, Virtual Humans (VHs) play essential roles in such applications. However, despite technological advancements, achieving realistic, expressive, and socially responsive VHs continues to present design and implementation challenges. In this scoping review, we present the state-of-the-art of VR VHs, examining the impact of VHs on the user experience.

Methodology:

We reviewed 59 papers retrieved from five databases across three core themes: the implementation and impact of VH facial expressions, …

Objective Conditioning Via Latent-Factor Modeling, Kalman-Smoothing, And Hidden Markov Clustering: An Application To Empirical Asset Pricing, Melanie R. Neller Mar 2026

Objective Conditioning Via Latent-Factor Modeling, Kalman-Smoothing, And Hidden Markov Clustering: An Application To Empirical Asset Pricing, Melanie R. Neller

Theses and Dissertations

Empirical asset pricing relies heavily on conditioning sets--industry groupings, size buckets, valuation screens, and other researcher-defined partitions--to structure cross-sectional tests and portfolio construction. While intuitive, such partitions risk blending heterogeneous firms, masking latent exposures, and introducing omitted-variable bias. This thesis develops an objective, mathematically grounded conditioning pipeline that replaces subjective groupings with latent-factor extraction, Kalman-based data techniques, and probabilistic clustering via Gaussian hidden Markov models (HMMs). Using CRSP monthly returns, the framework stabilizes noisy return data, extracts systematic structure through principal component analysis (PCA), identifies homogeneous stock cohorts through HMM clustering, and models regime persistence using Markov transition matrices. These …

Music-Based Intervention For Stress And Sleep In Substance Use Recovery, Olivia A. Coleman Mar 2026

Music-Based Intervention For Stress And Sleep In Substance Use Recovery, Olivia A. Coleman

Undergraduate Honors Theses

Aim: Sleep difficulties and elevated stress are common among individuals recovering from substance use disorders (SUDs), often persisting long after initial detoxification. Music-based interventions offer a low-risk, nonpharmacological option that may support sleep and stress regulation. This study examined whether a Structured Music Listening Protocol (SMLP) could improve sleep quality and reduce perceived stress within a residential SUD treatment program.

Methods: Fifty eligible patients were enrolled in the Intervention Group (SMLP – Structured Music Listening Protocol) and fifty in the Control Group (Standardized Therapy) from a residential treatment center for SUDs. Both groups received standard therapy from the center. The …

Discourses Of “Charades” Amid Conceptions Of Authentic Partnership: How Mathare Residents Evaluate Health Ngo Navigation, Nathaniel Oketch Lubanga Mar 2026

Discourses Of “Charades” Amid Conceptions Of Authentic Partnership: How Mathare Residents Evaluate Health Ngo Navigation, Nathaniel Oketch Lubanga

Dissertations (1934 -)

Health NGOs provide most healthcare in informal settlements. That is the reality on the ground. However, here is a puzzle: many of these organizations possess solid technical skills, yet they struggle to establish partnerships that endure. Why? Understanding how communities view these relationships might tell us something important about what makes partnerships successful or fall apart. The problem is that most research treats residents as passive recipients rather than active participants who shape these relationships through their everyday conversations. Moreover, studies tend to treat power, culture, and participation as separate issues when, in practice, they are intertwined. This qualitative study …

Donor Sex And Platelet Storage Change The Therapeutic Effects Of Platelet-Derived Extracellular Vesicles On Endothelium, Mandeep Kaur, Malvika Gupta, Sowmya Shree Gopal, Charles E. Wade, Jessica C. Cardenas, Amit K. Srivastava

Cardeza Foundation for Hematologic Research

Platelet-derived extracellular vesicles (PEVs) play an active role in vascular protection and repair and are being explored as a viable alternative to platelet therapy. Because platelet function and stability are shaped by donor sex and storage conditions, these same factors are likely to influence the PEVs they release. Understanding these influences is key to developing PEVs into a safe and dependable therapeutic option. In this study, we investigated how donor sex and platelet storage affect the therapeutic properties of PEVs. To address this, PEVs were isolated from platelets of healthy male and female donors. Platelets were either processed immediately after …

A Comprehensive Survey Of Watermarking Techniques For Copyright Protection And Integrity Verification On Dnns And Generative Models, Xinyun Liu, Ronghua Xu

Michigan Tech Publications

Deep neural networks (DNNs) have made remarkable progress in recent years and are widely applied across many fields. Trained DNNs are valuable assets due to their dependence on large volumes of quality data, expensive computational resources, and the development of sophisticated architectures. However, their increasing vulnerability to intellectual property (IP) infringement, including unauthorized use, replication, and redistribution, underscores the critical need for adequate copyright protection and integrity verification. DNN model watermarking has emerged as a promising solution to these challenges by embedding imperceptible identifiers into models. This survey provides a concise yet comprehensive state-of-the-art review of watermarking techniques focusing on …

Aberrant Recruitment Of The Striatum And Insula Is Associated With Recalling And Suppressing Fatigue- And Anger-Related Memories In People With Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, Katharine Rimes, Vincent Giampietro, Trudie Chalder, Roland Zahn, Sean Fallon

School of Psychology

Research suggests that people with chronic fatigue syndrome tend to suppress emotions more than healthy individuals. However, whether there are also changes in the neural substrates of emotional regulation in people with chronic fatigue syndrome remain unexplored. Specifically, it is unclear whether there is a neural delineation in how fatigue and anger-related memories are recalled or supressed in people with chronic fatigue syndrome. This study investigated this hypothesis using functional magnetic resonance imaging. We compared blood oxygen level-dependent signal changes between people with chronic fatigue syndrome (N=20) and matched controls (N= 20) during a novel task that involved the recall …
