Transforming Legacy Brands Into Cultural Moments: The Power Of Transmedia Storytelling, Grace Goshert

Marketing Undergraduate Honors Theses

Throughout my internship, I was captivated by the company’s journey to being driven by

intellectual property rather than just being product driven. On my very first day, the Vice

President of Marketing for North America, Matt Brutocao, spoke to all the interns about his role

and the direction the company is going. My first notes from my internship and his presentation

are the words marketing is storytelling. Throughout the rest of my internship, this idea would

come into play during talks with executives, company people in all departments, and with my

peers. It was very clear that Mattel wanted to …

Political Science Undergraduate Honors Theses

Using data collected from the Stanford Database on Ideology, Money in Politics, and Elections (DIME) this paper examines the connection between campaign finance results in independent expenditures. Focusing on 2022 and 2024 United States Senatorial election cycles, this research investigates whether or not female and male senatorial candidates receive higher or lower rates of supportive and opposing funding and how such funding effects the electoral outcomes of female candidates. Through logit regression analyses and descriptive statistics, like histogram and distribution graphs conducted in RStudio, this research measures how financial backing from outside groups affects probability in Senatorial primary electoral …

Creating A Gis-Based Site Suitability Index For A Major Sports Stadium In Kansas City, Theodore E. Blair May 2026

Creating A Gis-Based Site Suitability Index For A Major Sports Stadium In Kansas City, Theodore E. Blair

Political Science Undergraduate Honors Theses

There are many considerations taken when siting major sports stadiums. Most literature, though, has focused on the political and economic considerations, the negative outcomes of using public money for private projects. However, geographic considerations play a major part in deciding where to site a stadium. These considerations are wide-ranging and can change with the times. This thesis determines ten modern site suitability criteria, and with them, creates a site suitability index using GIS to determine and quantify more and less suitable areas for stadium development. It applies this index to the Kansas City area, as the city is currently in …

This thesis documents the lighting design process for The Trojan Women at the University of Arkansas, exploring how light can hold space for grief, devastation, beauty, and survival. Guided by the central conceptual image of “flowers burning in a garden,” the design sought to balance fragility and destruction allowing moments of tenderness to exist within the wreckage of war. This document reflects on research, collaboration, conceptual development, drafting, cueing, and rehearsal-to-performance evolution. It evaluates the emotional and visual effectiveness of color, angle, texture, and rhythm in shaping audience experience. Production photographs, the light plot, and cue paperwork are included to …

An Evaluation Of Leading Indicators In The Construction Industry And Their Relationship With Incident Rates, Kitti Miller Whalen May 2026

An Evaluation Of Leading Indicators In The Construction Industry And Their Relationship With Incident Rates, Kitti Miller Whalen

All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Improving safety programs has been a focus of organizations for decades. Historically, focus has been directed towards lagging indicators such as recordable incident rates and experience modification rate (EMR). While these remain beneficial, they are only one component of the broader framework. In recent years, companies have started to examine what occurs prior to an incident, which are known as leading indicators. The research into leading indicators is promising, however research into the area is limited. The focus of this study is to identify which leading indicators are most strongly associated with improved incident rates in the construction industry specifically. …

Construction Workers Noise Exposure And Hearing Conservation Program Needs, Quinn Noelle Overlin

Doctoral Scholarly Projects & Capstones

Noise exposure among construction workers is a pervasive occupational hazard with serious implications for long-term hearing health and overall well-being. This literature review examines the extent of noise exposures in the construction industry and the long-standing need for implementation of effective hearing conservation programs (HCPs). It synthesizes current evidence on exposure levels, health outcomes, and the effectiveness of existing interventions. Findings reveal that construction workers are routinely exposed to noise levels that exceed occupational safety standards, resulting in a heightened risk of noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) and associated health consequences. Despite regulatory frameworks and available intervention strategies, substantial gaps persist …

Do We Really Have The Right To Breathe Clean Air?, Rebecca Bratspies May 2026

Do We Really Have The Right To Breathe Clean Air?, Rebecca Bratspies

UC Law Journal

Setting environmental standards involves judgment calls about what level of protection is “adequate,” what technical measures are “feasible” and even what level of pollution is consistent with “clean air, clean water and a healthful environment.” On his first day in office, Trump drove a truck through those judgment calls by repealing all the executive orders related to racial justice, environmental justice, and climate change that had been guiding agency exercises of discretion. Since then, his Administration has done its best to gut environmental protections—repealing long-standing regulations and abandoning customary decision practices. Overall, the Trump Administration has created a regulatory void, …

Transgender Rights Federalism: Protecting Gender-Affirming Care In State Courts, Julia Hunter May 2026

Transgender Rights Federalism: Protecting Gender-Affirming Care In State Courts, Julia Hunter

UC Law Journal

In United States v. Skrmetti, the Supreme Court rejected a landmark equal protection challenge to Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming care for minors. In doing so, the Court substantially hindered or, at worst, entirely foreclosed federal equal protection challenges to gender-affirming care bans. Many Americans consider the Supreme Court the final arbiter of their constitutional rights. For decades, they would have been correct—when the Court was consistently expanding fundamental liberties, there was little incentive to look elsewhere for protection. But in eras of federal rights retrenchment, state courts have shown a willingness to step forward and interpret their constitutions independently and …

Capital Without Contribution, Saamia Aziz May 2026

Capital Without Contribution, Saamia Aziz

UC Law Journal

The United States offers immigration pathways based on economic contribution, yet this principle is applied inconsistently across employment-based (EB) visa preference categories. While the EB-1, EB-2, and EB-3 visas require immigrants to demonstrate exceptional ability, advanced education, or labor market necessity, the EB-5 investor visa grants permanent residency solely in exchange for capital. This Note argues that this inconsistency exposes a deeper flaw in U.S. immigration law: an incoherent and unequal definition of “economic value.” By treating capital as a sufficient basis for citizenship—without requiring skill, integration, or verifiable public benefit—the EB-5 program reveals how U.S. immigration policy privileges wealth …

Global Tax Decluttering, Shu-Yi Oei, Diane M. Ring May 2026

Global Tax Decluttering, Shu-Yi Oei, Diane M. Ring

UC Law Journal

Major global players—most prominently the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and European Union—have recently begun advocating that countries “declutter” their tax systems to tidy up, repeal, or eliminate pre-existing domestic anti-abuse tax rules. The reasoning is that these country-level rules are now duplicative or burdensome in light of a new global tax agreement spearheaded by the OECD and G20 and multilaterally agreed upon in 2021 by over 140 countries. Yet, this new multilateral regime is still in the process of being rolled out and is entirely untested.

In this Article, we examine this recently emergent “tax decluttering movement” …

Using a focus group design, data was collected from four focus groups consisting of two groups of Latino mothers (n = 10) and two groups of Latino fathers (n = 9). A thematic analysis revealed six primary themes: (1) parent–child …

Measurements And Scaling Of Ion Propulsion Impulse During Driven Magnetic Reconnection, Fatima Ebrahimi, Nicholas A. O'Gorman, Kush Maheshwari, Jongsoo Yoo, Alexandre Sainterme, Hantao Ji May 2026

Measurements And Scaling Of Ion Propulsion Impulse During Driven Magnetic Reconnection, Fatima Ebrahimi, Nicholas A. O'Gorman, Kush Maheshwari, Jongsoo Yoo, Alexandre Sainterme, Hantao Ji

Faculty Publications

Impulse scaling during magnetic reconnection, the magnetic energy conversion to kinetic energy, via direct Mach probe measurements in Magnetic Reconnection Experiment is examined. Ion exhaust velocity and impulse scalings with reconnecting magnetic field during the push phase of driven reconnection are presented. The outflows and impulse measurements are compared with global MHD simulations. Both measurements and simulations reveal a favorable scaling, greater than linear, of impulse with reconnecting field. These scaling results establish that magnetic reconnection could be utilized for plasma propulsion.

Responsive Rigor And Strategic Care: Faculty Praxis For Holistic Student Success In The Community College, Jennifer Kelley May 2026

Responsive Rigor And Strategic Care: Faculty Praxis For Holistic Student Success In The Community College, Jennifer Kelley

Library Scholarship

This qualitative study examines how community college faculty conceptualize, communicate, and enact academic rigor and care in their teaching practice. While post-pandemic debates have positioned rigor and care as opposing forces—evident in the "Rigor Wars" that framed care as performative laxity and rigor as gatekeeping—community college faculty successfully integrate these practices to support holistic student success. This research addresses critical gaps in higher education scholarship, which has studied rigor and care separately, focused primarily on four-year institutions, and overlooked faculty perspectives on how integration occurs in practice. Drawing on a single-case study of 38 faculty members at a large Midwestern …

Gender Identity, Political Alignment, And Views On “Man Or Bear” Trend Among Uconn Undergraduate Students, Erin Tumminello May 2026

Gender Identity, Political Alignment, And Views On “Man Or Bear” Trend Among Uconn Undergraduate Students, Erin Tumminello

Honors Scholar Theses

The “Man or Bear” debate, which became wildly popular online in 2024, asks whether someone would prefer encountering a random man or a random bear if alone in the woods. This question is meant to spark conversations around sexual and gender-based violence, and it created considerable discourse. Upon an exploration of the literature, findings include the fact that sexual violence often goes underreported among survivors, and that support of hegemonic masculinity and conservatism among men are associated with lower support for survivors. This study is meant to expand upon these findings, and to examine the ways in which gender identity …

Herbivory Of Phragmites Australis Along A Salinity Gradient In Connecticut Wetlands, Sydney H. Kolz May 2026

Herbivory Of Phragmites Australis Along A Salinity Gradient In Connecticut Wetlands, Sydney H. Kolz

Honors Scholar Theses

Invasive Phragmites australis (common reed) is widely distributed in New England wetlands, where it often outcompetes native plants and decreases biodiversity throughout the food web. Controlling its invasion is a priority, especially in salt marsh habitat, but current management techniques are inefficient. Leveraging natural processes may improve control strategies, but in order to do so, we must first better understand how abiotic and biotic stressors interact and affect Phragmites. This study focuses on herbivory and salinity, two factors limiting Phragmites’ fitness. I measured soil salinity and quantified the damage of three herbivore guilds (i.e. gall-formers and stem-borers, leaf-chewers, and …

Benchmarking Gaslighting Attacks Against Speech Large Language Models, Jinyang Wu, Bin Zhu, Xiandong Zou, Qiquan Zhang May 2026

Benchmarking Gaslighting Attacks Against Speech Large Language Models, Jinyang Wu, Bin Zhu, Xiandong Zou, Qiquan Zhang

PhD Student’s Publications Collection

As Speech Large Language Models (Speech LLMs) become increasingly integrated into voice-based applications, ensuring their robustness against manipulative or adversarial input becomes critical. Although prior work has studied adversarial attacks in text-based LLMs and vision-language models, the unique cognitive and perceptual challenges of speech-based interaction remain underexplored. In contrast, speech presents inherent ambiguity, continuity, and perceptual diversity, which make adversarial attacks more difficult to detect. In this paper, we introduce gaslighting attacks, strategically crafted prompts designed to mislead, override, or distort model reasoning as a means to evaluate the vulnerability of Speech LLMs. Specifically, we construct five manipulation strategies: Anger, …

Teacher-Student Diffusion Model For Text-Driven 3d Hand Motion Generation, Ching Lam Cheng, Bin Zhu, Shengfeng He May 2026

Teacher-Student Diffusion Model For Text-Driven 3d Hand Motion Generation, Ching Lam Cheng, Bin Zhu, Shengfeng He

PhD Student’s Publications Collection

Generating realistic 3D hand motion from natural language is vital for VR, robotics, and human-computer interaction. Existing methods either focus on full-body motion, overlooking detailed hand gestures, or require explicit 3D object meshes, limiting generality. We propose TSHaMo, a model-agnostic teacher-student diffusion framework for text-driven hand motion generation. The student model learns to synthesize motions from text alone, while the teacher leverages auxiliary signals (e.g., MANO parameters) to provide structured guidance during training. A co-training strategy enables the student to benefit from the teacher’s intermediate predictions while remaining text-only at inference. Evaluated using two diffusion backbones on GRAB and H2O, …

We present spatially resolved rest-frame optical emission line maps of four galaxies at z ∼ 2 observed with the Keck/OH-Suppressing Infra-Red Imaging Spectrograph to study the physical conditions of the interstellar medium (ISM) at cosmic noon. Our analysis of strong emission line ratios in these galaxies reveals an offset from the local star-forming locus on the Baldwin–Phillips–Terlevich diagram but agrees with other star-forming galaxies at similar redshifts. Despite the offset toward higher [O iii] λ5008/Hβ and [N ii] λ6585/Hα, these strong line ratios remain consistent with or below the maximum starburst threshold even in the inner ∼1 kpc region of …

The correlation between the mean transverse momentum, [p T], and the squared anisotropic flow, vn2, on an event-by-event basis has been suggested to be influenced by the initial conditions in heavy-ion collisions. We present measurements of the variances and covariance of [p T] and vn2, along with their dimensionless ratio, for Au+Au collisions at various beam energies: sNN = 14.6, 19.6, 27, 54.4, and 200 GeV. Our measurements reveal a distinct energy-dependent behavior in the variances and covariances. In addition, the dimensionless ratio displays a similar behavior across different beam energies. …

A precision measurement of the K ⁎0 meson yield is reported in Au+Au collisions at sNN=7.7,11.5,14.6,19.6, and 27 GeV using the high-statistics data sample collected by the STAR experiment during the Beam Energy Scan II (BES-II) program at RHIC. The transeverse momentum ( pT )-integrated yield ratios (K*0+K*0‾)/(K++K−) in central collisions show a suppression relative to peripheral collisions at the (1.7–3.6) σ level, while a thermal model without final-stage rescattering overpredicts this ratio with a deviation of (6.9–8.2) σ . These results indicate a loss of the measured K …
