Investigating Affordable Indoor Mobile Lidar Sensing For Bim-Based Facility Management: A Usability And Condition Sensitivity Study, Amr Mousa, Ahmed Elyamany, Mohamed Nabawy

Civil Engineering

This paper analyzes how capture parameters affect indoor mobile LiDAR scan fitness for-purpose for BIM-based facilities management. Despite extensive research on geometric accuracy and automated modelling performance, limited work has systematically examined how acquisition conditions influence the practical usability of raw scans for BIM/FM applications. A controlled experimental investigation used an Apple iPhone 16 Pro's integrated LiDAR sensor to capture 36 indoor scans under twelve factorial combinations of scan speed, illumination level, and motion pattern. Each condition was repeated three times. Usability was assessed using several components,Fco a gate-based pass/fail criterion, enclosure geometry, openings, ceiling services, and geometric clarity using …

On Paper, Dallas Spears May 2026

On Paper, Dallas Spears

MFA in Visual Art

I create sculptural works from discarded copy paper that I combine with found objects, all sourced from my immediate environment. The associations of paper such as writing, tearing, stacking, folding, and scribbling echo through my formal gestures. Found objects mimic these gestures, while adding unexpected textures and colors to the compositions. These machine-made objects are intertwined with the handmade to form displays of exchange. I am interested in the tension between the manufactured and the hand-formed, and how these tensions inform our daily lives. Objects that surpass the human lifespan, products alienated from us via opaque networks of exchange, especially …

Temporal Ubiquity, Brittni Mosby May 2026

Temporal Ubiquity, Brittni Mosby

MFA in Visual Art

My thesis examines looking as a sacred and relational practice rooted in familial memory, storytelling, and the photographic archive. Drawing from early experiences of engaging family photographs alongside my mother and great-grandmother, I conceptualize these encounters as the formation of “temporal altars”: living vessels that activate space, memory, and multiplicity. These intimate acts of looking and listening position the home as a critical site where Black subjectivity is held with care and complexity.

By casting these modes of perception into domestic spaces, my thesis not only resists reductive external gazes but interrogates the archive as a colonial apparatus structured by …

Grounding In Place And Space, Levi Anthony Walker May 2026

Grounding In Place And Space, Levi Anthony Walker

MFA in Visual Art

The foundation of Levi Walker’s artistic practice relies on the use of natural materials that reference the landscape. The materials within his sculptures, in combination with sculptural processes, create a conceptual language that is in conversation with the land and the ways that we engage with it as a community. As a member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, his work addresses the relationship that Indigenous tribes have with the federal government, and the ways the tribe must navigate colonial systems in order to support their communities without erasing their identities or beliefs. Influenced by his upbringing, a strong …

Care As Method: Sound, Duration, Relation In Contemporary Art Practice, Violet L. White May 2026

Care As Method: Sound, Duration, Relation In Contemporary Art Practice, Violet L. White

MFA in Visual Art

Abstract Care as Method: Sound, Duration, and Multispecies Relation in Contemporary Art Practice

This thesis proposes care as a method of artmaking, not a subject, theme, or aesthetic position, but the actual structural logic through which a body of work is built, sustained, and understood. Working at the intersection of ecological art practice and relational aesthetics, it asks what happens when the encounter at the center of the work is not between two people but between species, infrastructures, and histories of use and what obligations that encounter generates.

The argument is developed through six interconnected works: installations, sound compositions, sculptures, …

Alive In Translation, Shiyao Fu May 2026

Alive In Translation, Shiyao Fu

MFA in Visual Art

Alive in Translation explores in-between cultural conditions through my process of working with materials metaphorically, focusing on how they interact and intersect. By using paradoxical pairings—organic and synthetic, fluid and rigid, liquid and solid, flux and suspension—my sculptures and installations simultaneously hold multiple conditions. My process is grounded in my own negotiations with materials. By embracing both the material limitations and my own frustrations, I allow the materials to act as active agents in my process of making. The resulting forms exist in between the materials’ own tendencies and my own intentions. My thesis project, We twist, extend, and accrete …

Contested Surveillance: Gendered Citizenship And Political Participation In Egypt And Lebanon, Mohamad Zarif May 2026

Contested Surveillance: Gendered Citizenship And Political Participation In Egypt And Lebanon, Mohamad Zarif

Theses and Dissertations

While the 2011 Arab Uprisings were famously framed by the utopian narrative of a 'Facebook Revolution', this view has given way to a dystopian reality in which digital infrastructures can facilitate authoritarian retrenchment. This thesis interrogates how lowermiddle- and working-class precarious youth navigate and perceive this "Architecture of Control" in Cairo and Beirut. Using a comparative qualitative design with purposive and snowball sampling, this research integrates digital ethnography and fourteen interviews with eighteen participants (nine women, seven men) to capture lived experiences of surveillance rather than the internal logic of state security institutions. The study yields three primary findings. First, …

Future-Oriented Science Education: A Delphi Study Of Policymakers’ Views From Four European Countries, Sibel Erduran, Jessica Chan, Olga Ioannidou May 2026

Future-Oriented Science Education: A Delphi Study Of Policymakers’ Views From Four European Countries, Sibel Erduran, Jessica Chan, Olga Ioannidou

School of Law, Humanities and Social Sciences

Future-oriented skills have become increasingly important in science education. These skills include critical thinking, problem solving and managing complexity. While policymaking has a direct bearing on the what and the how of a future-oriented perspective in science education, previous research focused on a narrow group of stakeholders such as teachers and students. Little is known about what policymakers perceive as significant future-oriented skills to be included in the science curriculum. By policymakers we mean government officials, legislators, educational administrators, and other influential figures who are key decision-makers in the educational eco-system. The exploratory empirical study reported in the paper employed …

Effectiveness Of The Guided Discovery Method In Teaching The Surface Area Of A Cylinder, Paul Ahortu May 2026

Effectiveness Of The Guided Discovery Method In Teaching The Surface Area Of A Cylinder, Paul Ahortu

2026 Symposium

This study investigates the impact of the guided discovery instructional method on students’ understanding of the surface area of a cylinder. A quasi-experimental pre-test–post-test design was conducted with 100 senior high school students in Cape Coast, Ghana, divided into experimental and comparison groups..

Results showed a substantial improvement in performance for students exposed to guided discovery, with mean scores increasing from 1.25 (pre-test) to 9.43 (post-test) and a large effect size (Cohen’s d = 2.70). Statistical analysis also revealed significant gender differences in achievement.

These findings indicate strong improvement following the guided discovery intervention and suggest its potential to enhance …
