Patients who are suffering from neuromuscular disorders or injuries that impair motor control need to undergo rehabilitation to regain mobility. Gait training is commonly prescribed to patients to regain muscle memory. Automated-walking training devices were created to aid this process; while these devices establish accurate ankle-path trajectories, the knee and hip movements are inaccurate. In this work, a redesign of the leg assembly in a multi-purpose rehabilitation robotic device (RoboREHAB) was explored to improve hip- and knee-movement accuracy by adding an extra link and rollers to the assembly. Motion analysis was employed to test feasibility, reinforcement learning was utilized to …

Uncovering Weaknesses In Autonomous Driving: A Formal Approach To Adversarial Scenario Generation And Falsification, Carlos O. Hernandez
Master's Theses
Autonomous vehicles utilize advanced safety features like proactive driving assistance and pre-collision alerts to minimize the risk of accidents. However, evaluating the correct functionality of these systems is complex. First, safety systems are highly sophisticated, integrating software, networking, and hardware components, many of which rely on advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms. Second, an array of dynamic factors, including numerous actors and physical variables, can influence the performance of safety mechanisms during critical scenarios. Each actor’s unique behavior introduces unpredictability, making it difficult to anticipate future states and outcomes. This thesis presents a comprehensive framework for testing autonomous vehicle …

Thorstein Veblen And His Underlying Philosophical Influences, John B. Hall
Economics Faculty Publications and Presentations
This inquiry recognizes Thorstein Veblen first and foremost as a philosopher who advanced a literature in Social Sciences, generally, and Economic Science, in particular. Veblen’s thinking and writing were supported by rich traditions drawn from notable philosophers that included among several: Charles Sanders Peirce, Immanuel Kant, and Friedrich Nietzsche. Relying upon his strong background in Philosophy, he then sought to challenge mainstream, neoclassical economics, especially. As his career developed, he would turn his talents and energies towards advancing ideas that would ultimately prove foundational for heterodox economics and, relatedly, American Institutionalism.

As a blood clot forms, grows, deforms, and embolizes following a vascular injury, local clot-flow interactions lead to a highly dynamic flow environment. The local flow influences transport of biochemical species relevant for clotting, and determines the forces on the clot that in turn lead to clot deformation and embolization. Despite this central role, quantitative characterization of this dynamic clot-flow interaction and flow environment in the clot neighborhood remains a major challenge. Here, we propose an approach that integrates dynamic intravital imaging with computer geometric modeling and computational flow and transport modeling to develop a unified in silico framework to …

Picard And Adomian Decomposition Methods For A Fractionalquadratic Integral Equation Viaζ-Generalizedξ-Fractional Integral, Ali Hasan Ali, Alan Jalal Abdulqader, Saleh S. Redhwan, Omar Bazighifan, Awad T. Alabdala
Iraqi Journal for Computer Science and Mathematics
The primary focus of this paper is to thoroughly examine and analyze a class of a fractional quadraticintegral equation viaζ-generalizedξ-fractional integral. To achieve this, we introduce an operator that possessesfixed points corresponding to the solutions of the fractional quadratic integral equation, effectively transforming thegiven equation into an equivalent fixed-point problem. By applying the Banach fixed-point theorems, we prove theuniqueness of solutions to fractional quadratic integral equation. Additionally, The Adomian decomposition methodis used, to solve the resulting fractional quadratic integral equation. This technique rapidly provides convergentsuccessive approximations of the exact solution to the given fractional quadratic integral equation, therefore, weinvestigate the …

Neutrosophic Systems with Applications
Graph structure is a developing field with many real-world applications and advancements, particularly effective frameworks for integrative problem-solving in computer networks and artificial intelligence systems. To define the idea of an Interval-Valued Complex Neutrosophic Graph Structure (IVCNGS), the concept of an Interval-Valued Complex Neutrosophic Set (IVCNS) is applied to the graph structure. Using the adjacency matrix to calculate the degree of vertex, we have defined some findings about the IVCNGS. Further, we compute the energy and Laplacian energy of IVCNGS. Moreover, we derive the lower and upper bounds for the energy and Laplacian energy of IVCNGS, and we have discussed …

Comparison Of Energy Budget Of Cockroach Nymph (Hemimetabolous) And Hornworm (Holometabolous) Under Food Restriction, Charles J Green, Chen Hou
Faculty, Staff and Student Publications
Animals with different life histories budget their intake energy differently when food availability is low. It has been shown previously that hornworm (larva of Manduca sexta), a holometabolous insect species with a short development stage, prioritizes growth at the price of metabolism under food restriction, but it is unclear how hemimetabolous insect species with a relatively long development period budget their intake energy under food scarcity. Here, we use orange head cockroaches (Eublaberus posticus) to investigate this question. We found that for both species under food restriction, rates of metabolism and growth were suppressed, but the degree …
“And So My Soul Shall Rise”: Enslaved And Free African American Christianity Before Emancipation, Holly J. Lawson
“And So My Soul Shall Rise”: Enslaved And Free African American Christianity Before Emancipation, Holly J. Lawson
Montview Journal of Research & Scholarship
The Christianity of enslaved and free African Americans in the years immediately following the first Great Awakening through the end of the Civil War (roughly 1750-1850) evidences a complex cultural fusion and a complicated theological depth. There were many different aspects of the religious and spiritual practices of these African American Christians, including preaching, baptism, ecstatic spiritual experiences, evangelism, violent and non-violent forms of resistance to slavery, and, possibly the most prevalent of all, music and singing. The hundreds of thousands of African people unwillingly brought to America brought with them their African heritage, but the survival of their African …

Galileo And The Church: An Ecological Perspective, Holly J. Lawson
Montview Journal of Research & Scholarship
The post-medieval church was surrounded by intense sociocultural factors, including the recent Protestant Reformation and the Catholic Counter-Reformation. Although “the Galileo affair,” as it has been dubbed in the years since, is generally presented as a case example of the conflict between science and faith or religion, it is far more complex than these two issues alone. Galileo’s discoveries supporting the Copernican theory entered a complex interplay of factors, eventually leading to a highly pressurized encounter between Galileo and the Inquisition. Galileo’s indictment is a nuanced, poignant example of the rich cultural and contextual factors that drive clashes of religion …

Of Sacrament And Safety: How Two 1970s Home Birth Services Magnified The Power And The Limits Of Women's Voices, Kristen S. Burgess
Montview Journal of Research & Scholarship
Two home birth services faced changes in the early 1970s, resulting in a watershed moment for maternity care and childbirth options throughout the United States. One service began in Summertown, Tennessee, where a counterculture group believed birth was sacramental and home birth was essential to honoring that sacrament. Still, these resourceful pioneers embraced technology for prenatal care and safe birth practices, leading to the establishment of the Farm Midwifery Clinic and contributing directly to the rebirth of midwifery in the United States. Chicago, in contrast, offered home delivery to urban Chicago's racially diverse, low-income population through The Chicago Maternity Center. …

Forward Pointing Introductory Formulas In The Gospel Of Matthew: A Solution To One Of Matthew’S Most Problematic Scripture Citations, Donald C. Mcintyre
Liberty Theological Review
This paper will seek to interpret one of the most problematic passages in intertextual studies. Matthew 2:23 does not have a clear Old Testament referent, and this presents a problem. How can an unknown prophecy be fulfilled; where is the text cited to be found? However, by keeping the original in mind during interpretation, it seems that Matthew was intentionally creating a hermeneutic of suspicion creating a deliberate rhetorical effect. This paper will seek to determine how Matthew artistically arranged and derived the significance of the Old Testament for his contemporary readership in light of the Christ event. It will …
Francis Of Assisi: A Reputation Marred Beyond Recognition, Jackson Gravitt
Francis Of Assisi: A Reputation Marred Beyond Recognition, Jackson Gravitt
Liberty Theological Review
Francis of Assisi believed his mission was to preach the gospel, and his reputation shortly after his death was that of a prolific preacher. However, members of his Order eventually began to present his life differently due to controversies that developed after his death. They began to de-emphasize his preaching ministry to instead focus on his holiness, miracles, or reformed mindedness. In the twentieth century, these works served as the foundation of Francis studies, resulting in scholars neglecting his reputation as a preacher. Francis became caricatured as anti-oracular, most notably by his association with an apocryphal quote: “Preach the gospel …

Explainable Feature Drift Monitoring System For Predictive Machine Learning Models, Hao Xu, Can Liu, Chiranjeet Chetia
Defensive Publications Series
The present disclosure provides a novel method wherein a classifier-based drift scoring model is initially constructed using historical data. The derivation of SHAP (SHapley Additive exPlanations) values from the drift scoring model is employed to discern the individual contributions of various features to the calculated drift score. To enhance the granularity of drift pattern comprehension, new data is systematically categorized into multiple clusters based on the similarity of their drift patterns, as elucidated by SHAP values. The performance degradation of a deployed predictive model is then meticulously evaluated under distinct drift patterns. This evaluation offers detailed insights into the differential …
