Fathers’ Footprints: The Role Of The Father-Son Relationship In Shaping Men’S Experience And Expression Of Anger In Egypt, Lydia E. Wassef Jun 2026

Fathers’ Footprints: The Role Of The Father-Son Relationship In Shaping Men’S Experience And Expression Of Anger In Egypt, Lydia E. Wassef

Theses and Dissertations

Abstract

In many Egyptian families, the father holds a central position as an authority figure, a protector, and a provider, yet often remains emotionally reserved and relationally distant. The emotional legacy of paternal acceptance or rejection extends into adulthood, shaping patterns of emotional regulation. Particularly, the father-son relationship plays a fundamental role in shaping men’s experiences and expressions of anger. Within cultural contexts discouraging vulnerability and associating masculinity with strength and emotional restraint, anger may become one of the few socially acceptable modes of emotional expression for men. This study positions these dynamics within the cultural context of fatherhood in …

An Integrated Sensor-Fusion Framework For Performance-Based Compensation In Construction, Aly Ayman El-Ashry Jun 2026

An Integrated Sensor-Fusion Framework For Performance-Based Compensation In Construction, Aly Ayman El-Ashry

Theses and Dissertations

Construction productivity has historically stagnated due to a reliance on subjective labor monitoring and “lagging” performance indicators. This research proposes a novel compensation model with the use of Total Energy Management System (TEMS) to translate labor effort and efficiency into payment incentives with the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) wearables and Statistical Process Control (SPC) charts.

This research addresses the systemic problem of declining construction productivity caused by industry’s inability to objectively quantify human effort. While traditional models rely on post-facto production tallies, a significant research gap exists in real-time physiological labor monitoring. To bridge this, the proposed TEMS …

Protection Mechanisms’ Analysis Of Gender-Based Violence Among Refugees In Egypt, George Fattah Jun 2026

Protection Mechanisms’ Analysis Of Gender-Based Violence Among Refugees In Egypt, George Fattah

Theses and Dissertations

Gender-Based Violence remains a critical protection challenge in humanitarian settings, yet the mechanisms that determine who reports violence, and who receives care, are often uneven. In Egypt, current data reveals significant disparities in reporting rates across demographic groups, prompting a deeper inquiry into the inclusivity of existing protection frameworks. This study investigates the structural, economic, and socio-cultural factors that influence both the reporting of GBV and the delivery of services to refugee survivors. By examining the lived experiences of different migrant groups, the research interrogates how legal precarity and identity markers interact to create distinct barriers to justice and support. …

Breaking The Silence: A Content And Expert Analysis Of The 2025 Ramadan Series Lam Shamseya's Framing And Subversion Of Child Sexual Abuse Discourse In Egypt, Maya Abouelnasr

Theses and Dissertations

This thesis analyzes how the 2025 Egyptian TV series Lam Shamseya served as a sociocultural intervention and awareness platform for reframing and subverting the typical child sexual abuse (CSA) discourse in Egypt. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study triangulates framing theory and two complementary tools of the critical discourse analysis (CDA) and the circuit of culture model through a scene-level content analysis of 304 scenes across all 15 episodes of the series and ten semi-structured interviews with media experts, media practitioners, and psychologists. Key findings include reported corroboration of subversion of traditional tropes and archetypes, as well as reframing of …

Beyond Emergency: Charting Pathways To Sustainable Development In Fragile And Conflict-Affected Settings: A Case Study Of Yemen, Sharif Abdurabu Salem Farid Alsahbool Jun 2026

Beyond Emergency: Charting Pathways To Sustainable Development In Fragile And Conflict-Affected Settings: A Case Study Of Yemen, Sharif Abdurabu Salem Farid Alsahbool

Theses and Dissertations

For nearly a decade, Yemen's eastern governorates of Hadramawt, Shabwah, and Al‑Mahrah have been relatively stable, yet the international aid system has kept delivering short‑term humanitarian relief like food baskets and water trucking instead of shifting to sustainable development that could rebuild people's lives, create jobs, fix infrastructure, and strengthen local government. This thesis investigates why this transition has taken so long. Based on 21 interviews with government officials, international NGO staff, and local NGO managers in these three governorates, the study develops a new way of understanding the problem. It introduces three ideas: the 'emergency mentality', which is a …

The Paradox Of Palestinian Exile: Unrwa, Structural Limbo, And The Manufactured Crisis Of The Right To Return, Laila Ibrahim Hassan Elkassas Jun 2026

The Paradox Of Palestinian Exile: Unrwa, Structural Limbo, And The Manufactured Crisis Of The Right To Return, Laila Ibrahim Hassan Elkassas

Theses and Dissertations

This thesis argues that the temporariness of Palestinian exile has been turned into a manufactured limbo that is sustained by international law, humanitarian governance and host- country regimes. It uses General Assembly Resolution 194 and the broader human rights regime to show how the right to return is constantly reaffirmed but structurally postponed, resulting in a gap between legal promise and political reality. Drawing on Edward Said’s notion of exile as an unhealable rift, Pierre Bourdieu’s concept of habitus and Didier Fassin’s thinking on humanitarian reason, the thesis constructs a multi-scalar framework that conceptualizes limbo as existential experience, embodied practice …

Determinants Of Corporal Punishment And Severe Physical Punishment In Egypt: A Mixed-Methods Analysis For Child Protection Policy, Marwa Moustafa Nassef Jun 2026

Determinants Of Corporal Punishment And Severe Physical Punishment In Egypt: A Mixed-Methods Analysis For Child Protection Policy, Marwa Moustafa Nassef

Theses and Dissertations

Corporal punishment (CP) and severe physical punishment (SPP) remain a major public health, child rights, and child protection policy concern. In Egypt, despite legislative reforms, survey-weighted analysis of the 2021 Egypt Family Health Survey (EFHS) 2021 (CAPMAS, 2022) reveals prevalence rates of 60.5% for CP and 27.4% for SPP among children aged 1–14 (author’s calculations using EFHS-2021, n=7623), yet evidence distinguishing the determinants of routine corporal punishment from escalation to severe physical punishment remains limited in low- and middle-income contexts. Guided by Bronfenbrenner’s ecological framework, this mixed-methods study identifies key drivers of CP and its escalation to SPP among Egyptian …

Structure Functions For The Inclusive Semileptonic B-Quark Decay At Nnlo: A Semi-Analytic Calculation, A. Broggio, B. Capdevila, A. Ferroglia, P. Gambino Jun 2026

Structure Functions For The Inclusive Semileptonic B-Quark Decay At Nnlo: A Semi-Analytic Calculation, A. Broggio, B. Capdevila, A. Ferroglia, P. Gambino

Publications and Research

We present a study of the inclusive charmless semileptonic b decay, b → Xuℓv at next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) in perturbative QCD, with the primary aim of extracting the hadronic structure functions Wi at NNLO. The analysis is based on a numerical calculation of the relevant kinematic distributions using a phase-space slicing method to handle infrared-sensitive contributions from real gluon emissions. We use known results from Heavy Quark Effective Theory and Soft-Collinear Effective Theory to extract the singular terms and construct a model for the regular contributions to the structure functions at NNLO, then perform a fit to the …

Radiometric Modeling And Glamr Comparison For Cpf Hysics Independent Calibration, Zhipeng (Ben) Wang, Kurtis Thome, Brian Wenny

The Characterization and Radiometric Calibration for Remote Sensing Annual Meeting (CALCON)

The Independent Calibration (IndCal) approach for the CLARREO Pathfinder (CPF) mission HySICS instrument targets SI-traceable absolute radiometric calibration at the sub-percent level. As a major element of IndCal, a physics-based endto- end instrument model of HySICS has been developed to predict spectral and radiometric behavior.

As part of HySICS pre-launch characterization, detector-based absolute radiometric calibration was performed using the NASA Goddard’s GLAMR, which is a tunable laser-based calibration system covering the 340–2500 nm spectral range. In this study, model predictions are compared with GLAMR measurements and other pre-launch component- and system-level calibration results. Special emphasis is placed on the effects …

Pace Oci On-Orbit Solar Calibration, Jeff Mcintire, Shihyan Lee, Robert E. Eplee, Gerhard Meister

The Characterization and Radiometric Calibration for Remote Sensing Annual Meeting (CALCON)

The launch of the Plankton, Aerosol, Cloud, ocean Ecosystem (PACE) mission in February of 2024 was a significant step forward for the observation of ocean science data from low Earth orbit. PACE has a payload of two polarimeters and the Ocean Color Instrument (OCI); OCI is the next generation sensor for ocean color science, drawing heritage from sensors such as MODIS, SeaWiFS, and VIIRS, but with increased spectral coverage and improved accuracy. OCI is a grating spectrometer with hyperspectral coverage from the ultraviolet (about 315 nm) to near-infrared (about 895 nm), with additional filtered channels in the short-wave infrared (940 …

Data-Driven Qoe Inference For Htttp Adaptive Streaming, Tisa Selma Jun 2026

Data-Driven Qoe Inference For Htttp Adaptive Streaming, Tisa Selma

Thesis/ Dissertation Defenses

In HTTP adaptive streaming, accurately inferring user Quality of Experience (QoE) remains challenging due to dynamic network conditions, content variations, end-to-end encryption, intrusive advertisement interruptions, and diverse user engagement behaviors. Conventional approaches, such as ITU-T P.1203, fall short in capturing real-time user perception, accounting for ad related disruptions, or adapting to model drift over time. This dissertation therefore aims to develop a multimodal face emotion recognition (FER) based inference model that predicts QoE under encryption and advertisement conditions while being interpretable, robust, resilient to drift, and highly accurate. To achieve these objectives, a unified framework is designed and implemented. The …

Effect Of Temperature On The Defensive And Predatory Behavior Of The Scorpion Hadrurus Obscurus (Scorpiones: Hadruridae), Zia Nisani, Megan Bennett, Audrey Enriquez, Mel Iniquez, Emilia Martinez Rios, Brooklyn Stone Jun 2026

Effect Of Temperature On The Defensive And Predatory Behavior Of The Scorpion Hadrurus Obscurus (Scorpiones: Hadruridae), Zia Nisani, Megan Bennett, Audrey Enriquez, Mel Iniquez, Emilia Martinez Rios, Brooklyn Stone

Euscorpius

Scorpions employ their stinging mechanism both for defense and predation, and being ectothermic, temperature influences their physiology and behavior. As such, we hypothesized that temperature both affects defensive stinging and prey-capture behavior in scorpions. We tested the effects of body temperature on these behaviors in the desert hairy scorpion, Hadrurus obscurus Williams, 1970. In the first experiment, scorpions were placed in temperature-controlled chambers with either high (26-28°C) or low (21- 22°C) temperatures and probed to elicit a defensive sting. We recorded the reaction time and the number of probes needed to elicit a sting. In the second experiment, we observed …

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

Background: Functional asymmetry of the lower limbs in the technique of clearing 10 hurdles in the 400 m hurdles event was the subject of the study. Materials and methods: This study investigates the patterns of hurdle clearance, distinguishing between left and right lead legs by 196 female hurdlers competing in major championship events (including Olympic Games, World Championships, European Championships) from 1978 to 2022. The hurdlers were categorized into three groups based on competition periods: Group A (1978–2000), Group B (2001–2011), and Group C (2012–2022). The share of the left lead leg (assumed by most authors to be the lead …

Ai-Augmented Constitutionalism: Framing The Alliance Between Ai And Fundamental Rights In Comparative Perspective, Sergio Sulmicelli Jun 2026

Ai-Augmented Constitutionalism: Framing The Alliance Between Ai And Fundamental Rights In Comparative Perspective, Sergio Sulmicelli

Indian Journal of Law and Technology

The dominant academic literature on artificial intelligence and fundamental rights has been organised around a structuring premise: that AI systems pose a systemic threat to constitutional values, and that rights protection is a project of constraining and resisting automated decision-making. This article accepts and supports the empirical foundation of that literature. It does not accept that the framework is complete. This article proposes the concept of AI-augmented constitutionalism, defined as the deployment of artificial intelligence systems to strengthen the detection, enforcement, and access dimensions of fundamental rights, subject to a rule of law safeguards architecture. The concept inverts the dominant …

Level Of Nitrogen Fertilizer In Annual Winter Pasture (Oats-Ryegrass) And Summer Pasture (Millet): Effects On Milk Production, C J. Olivo, I L. Barreto, D A. Stiles Jun 2026

Level Of Nitrogen Fertilizer In Annual Winter Pasture (Oats-Ryegrass) And Summer Pasture (Millet): Effects On Milk Production, C J. Olivo, I L. Barreto, D A. Stiles

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)

Two experiments were conducted with lactating Holstein cows to study the effects of different levels of nitrogen fertilizer (urea) on annual pasture: experiment 1, oats (Avena byzantina K. Koch) and ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.); experiment 2, millet (Pennisetum americanum (L.] Leche). Base fertilizer (8-28-18) was applied, and at the five-leaf stage three levels of nitrogen (N) (75, 150, and 225 kg/ha) were applied. The millet pasture followed the oat + ryegrass pasture, with the N treatments being maintained in the same areas. Two ha were planted for each treatment (total, 6 ha). In experiment 1, twelve lactating cows were randomly …

Effect Of Sheep And Cattle Grazing On A Mixed Pasture Of Perennial Ryegrass, Kikuyu, And White Clover, G J. Goold Jun 2026

Effect Of Sheep And Cattle Grazing On A Mixed Pasture Of Perennial Ryegrass, Kikuyu, And White Clover, G J. Goold

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)

Mixed pastlkes of perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L. ), kikuyugrass (Pennisetum clandestinum Hochst. ), and white clover (Trifolium repens L.) are commonly found within warm-zone areas of New Zealand but are frequently disliked because of problems associated with kikuyugrass dominance. A grazing experiment was conducted to provide basic information on the response of such swards to grazing by cattle and sheep. The pastures were rotationally grazed with young sheep or cattle at two stocking levels each year from 1970 to 1975, with stocking rates adjusted twice yearly according to seasonal pasture growth. The pastures grazed by cattle …

A Comparative Evaluation Of Six Ryegrass Cultivars Under Grazing And Conservation Managements, M Ryan Jun 2026

A Comparative Evaluation Of Six Ryegrass Cultivars Under Grazing And Conservation Managements, M Ryan

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)

Meat and dairy products command overriding importance in the Irish agricultural economy. They are derived primarily from Irish grasslands, which occupy 89% of the arable land area. Use of improved grass cultivars is probably the best means of increasing grassland output once the basics, optimal fertilizer use, and high stocking rates have been met. Objective identification of superior cultivars is the responsibility of state agencies. A recommended list, published annually in Ireland, presently contains 47 ryegrass (Lolium perenne) cultivars. There is some doubt, however, that results from small-plot cutting trials can be extrapolated to equivalent performance by grazing …

Dynamics Of Herbage Growth And Senescence In A Mixed-Species Temperate Sward Continuously Grazed By Sheep, J S. Bircham, J Hodgson

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)

Four perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.)-Poa annua L.-white clover (Trifolium repens L.) swards with herbage mass ranging from 500 to 1,700 kg organic matter (OM)/ha were established and maintained in as near a steady state as possible by continuous but variahle stocking with sheep in order to study the influence of herbage mass on rates of herbage growth (G), senescence (S), and net production (NP), and on species balance. Estimates ofG, S, and NP were derived from measurements on individual grass tillers and clover stolon growth sites. The mean contributions to total G were 54, 20, and 4 ( ± …

Production Response Of Russian Wildrye (Elymus Junceus Fisch.) To Fertilizer And Clipping, L Hofmann, J F. Karn

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)

Experiments were conducted on nitrogen (N) fertilization of long-term Russian wildrye (RWR) (E?Jimus junceus Fisch.) pasture and the effect of simulated spring grazing on quantity of forage available for fall use. A stand of RWR that had been fertilized with 45 kg N/ha and grazed annually for 10 years at Mandan, North Dakota, was divided into two experiments in 1978. The first evaluated effects from all combinations of 0, 45, 90, 135, 180, and 225 kg N/ha; 0, 45, and 90 kg phosphorus (P)/ha; and 0 and 135 kg potassium (K)/ha on dry-matter (DM) yields, whereas the second compared ten …

Changes In Quality And Composition Of Alfalfa During Autumn, S C. Fleming, M Collins, N A. Jorgensen Jun 2026

Changes In Quality And Composition Of Alfalfa During Autumn, S C. Fleming, M Collins, N A. Jorgensen

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)

Autumn harvest of alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) offers a potential for obtaining additional forage production during a particular season. Little is known about the quality or changes in the chemical composition of this forage. The objective of this research was to examine changes in chemical composition, dry-matter intake (DMI), and apparent digestibility of alfalfa during autumn in Wisconsin. An established stand of Vernal alfalfa, early bud to midbud, was harvested using a flail harvester on 5 and 20 October and 5 and 18 November 1979. The forage was dried at 55°C for 72 to 96 hours in burlap bags. A …

Stockpiling Of Cool-Season Grasses In Autumn, C T. Dougherty Jun 2026

Stockpiling Of Cool-Season Grasses In Autumn, C T. Dougherty

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)

The practice of accumulating growth of cool-season grasses in the late summer and early autumn for subsequent grazing in late autumn and winter, known as stockpiling, has been widely accepted by beef cow-calf producers. The objectives of our study were to determine the growth characteristics of cool-season grasses in the autumn under nitrogen (N) fertilization and to investigate utilization of stockpiled forages. Tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.) has many attributes that make it highly suited to stockpiling. On Maury silt loams, Kentucky 31 tall fescue accumulated 6,500 kg/ha of dry matter from 16 August 1979 to 12 December 1979 …

Potential Grass Production In Ireland, A J. Breeton Jun 2026

Potential Grass Production In Ireland, A J. Breeton

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)

Variation in weather geographically and between years can have a significant impact on intensive animal production systems dependent on grass as feed. This work was undertaken to quantify the effect of weather variations on grass production. The first objective was to relate grass growth quantitatively to radiation and temperature. These relationships are obscured by large changes in sward growth potential within the season, which are related to changes in the physiological status of the crop. Therefore, it was necessary to quantify this physiological effect. Production data were drawn from production experiments, and weather data were drawn from the published records …

Ladino Clover Persistence As Affected By Physical Management And Use Of Pesticides, D S. Chamblee, L T. Lucas, W V. Campbell Jun 2026

Ladino Clover Persistence As Affected By Physical Management And Use Of Pesticides, D S. Chamblee, L T. Lucas, W V. Campbell

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)

Stand persistence is a major weakness of the widely used Ladino clover (Trifolium repens L.) in the U.S.A. The objective of these studies was to determine the influence of physical management practices and selected pesticides on longevity of Ladino clover stands. Ladino grown alone and in mixture with tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.) was subjected to varying physical management regimes ( clipping, grass density, and spacing) and insecticide and fungicide applications in two tests for 5 to 6 years. By the fall of the third year, the percentages of clover (average of two tests) in the Ladino clover-tall fescue untreated …

Improvement Of Yield And Persistence Of Italian Ryegrass Through Pest Control, R O. Clements, I F. Henderson Jun 2026

Improvement Of Yield And Persistence Of Italian Ryegrass Through Pest Control, R O. Clements, I F. Henderson

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)

Our objectives were to examine (1) whether increases in yield and persistence of Italian ryegrass varieties following frequent pesticide application are related to a reduction in frit-fly larval populations, and if so (2) whether the use of a nonpersistent pesticide would be a feasible method of reducing such damage. In two field experiments, the yield and persistence of normally short-lived Italian ryegrasses (Lolium multiflorumL.) were greatly increased by application of large and frequent doses of the potent insecticide phorate. Much of the insect damage was attributed to stem-boring dipterans of the frit-fly complex (e.g., Oscinella.frit).

In one experiment, small …

Minimizing Disease Losses In Forage Crops Through Management, K T. Leath Jun 2026

Minimizing Disease Losses In Forage Crops Through Management, K T. Leath

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)

Diseases cause major losses in yield, quality, and stand life of forage crops. Strategies that are used to minimize such losses include the use of resistant varieties and crop-management practices that directly or indirectly affect diseases. Because of the perennial nature of both the crops and the diseases, there are many opportunities to implement management strategies to reduce disease. Implementation begins prior to the planting of the forage crop and continues through the actual planting and on through the production years. Insect control, weed control, and fertility maintenance are examples of crop management that also serve to minimize forage-crop losses …

Sprinkling Irrigation Of Forage Plants Under Different Site Conditions In The Gdr, W Breunig, R Richteh, W Henkel, G Schaltz Jun 2026

Sprinkling Irrigation Of Forage Plants Under Different Site Conditions In The Gdr, W Breunig, R Richteh, W Henkel, G Schaltz

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)

Stability and continuity of forage production are primarily dependent upon the actual water supply and the level and distribution of nitrogen applications. Under the soil and climatic conditions in the GDR, in almost every year ther-e are certain periods when the natural water supply does not satisfy the water needs of forage plants, leading to severe yield loss unless sprinkle irrigation is practiced. As sprinkle irrigation is very costly and water resources are limited, we must make full use of all potential for achieving high yields while keeping the water input at a minimum -i.e., maximizing overall efficiency of the …

Maximum Production From Irrigated Rhodesgrass And Green Panic In A Mediterranean Environment, A Dovrat, T Kipnis Jun 2026

Maximum Production From Irrigated Rhodesgrass And Green Panic In A Mediterranean Environment, A Dovrat, T Kipnis

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)

Aspects of the production of rhodesgrass (Chloris gayana Kunth) and green panic (Panicum maximum var. trichoglume) as roughage for high-grade dairy cattle when land and water resources are limited are described. Results from some 10 years of research are highlighted. The height of the canopy to which grasses should be allowed to regrow for maximum production is above the height that can be utilized efficiently when harvested in situ by cattle. Mechanical harvesting and indoor feeding provided 20%-25% more digestible dry matter/unit area of land (with a parallel increase in water-use efficiency) than strip grazing, almost without affecting …

Hydration-Dehydration As A Presowing Seeding Treatment Physiology And Application, W M. Lush, R H. Groves, P E. Kaye Jun 2026

Hydration-Dehydration As A Presowing Seeding Treatment Physiology And Application, W M. Lush, R H. Groves, P E. Kaye

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)

Presowing hydration-dehydration treatments, in which seeds are partially hydrated and then dried back to their original weights before sowing, have been claimed to have wide-ranging and beneficial effects on seed germination and plant growth. We have assessed the physiological benefits and problems of hydration-dehydration treatments as they apply to pasture grasses, in particular to annual ryegrass. Pretreatment increased the speed of germination because the embryos of pretreated seeds were in a more advanced developmental stage at sowing. Furthermore, the germinability of seeds was increased if hydration-dehydration coincided with exposure to dormancy-breaking conditions, but we found no evidence to support other …
