Robust Real-Time Uav Target Tracking With Onboard Vision-Based Yaw Control, Rylan Malarchick, Jose Castelblanco, Enrique Amaya, Carmen Dimario, Graysen Brinkman, Chirag Kumar, Kiwon Yoon, Sajid Berhane

Beyond: Undergraduate Research Journal

Autonomous tracking of agile unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) presents significant challenges for real-time perception and control systems. This work presents AIRHOUND (Autonomous Intelligent Rotorcraft for Hostile Object Unified Navigation and Detection), a UAV platform implementing vision-based yaw tracking through a modular ROS2 software architecture. The system employs YOLOv8 object detection optimized with NVIDIA TensorRT for embedded deployment on an NVIDIA Jetson Orin companion computer. Detected targets are processed through a geometric tracking module that converts pixel coordinates to angular yaw errors using pinhole camera intrinsics, with a proportional controller generating rate-limited yaw commands. These commands are streamed to a PX4 …

Beyond The Expected Window: A Rare Presentation Of Acei-Associated Angioedema Two Decades Into Therapy, Taiwo Ajani, Jose J. Loayza Pintado, Renzo Aller Rojas, Jorge Aboytes Trevino, Michelle Lopez

Research Colloquium

Introduction: Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor–induced angioedema (ACEI-AE) is a rare but potentially serious adverse effect of a widely used class of antihypertensives. It typically presents as non-pitting, non-pruritic swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or upper airway, often without associated urticaria. Although most cases occur within the first weeks of treatment, delayed presentations, sometimes after years of stable therapy, have been increasingly recognized. The condition is bradykinin-mediated and often does not respond to standard allergy medications such as antihistamines or corticosteroids.

Case Presentation: A 56-year-old woman with a medical history of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, GERD, and seasonal allergies presented to …

From Skin To Spleen To Brain: Full-Spectrum Embolic Complications In Staphylococcus Aureus Endocarditis, Jose J. Loayza Pintado, Jorge Aboytes Trevino, Julian Galindo, Mohammad Aqeel, John Cauba, Joshua Nwose, Andres Suarez Parraga

Research Symposium

Background: Infective endocarditis (IE) results from bacterial adhesion to endocardial tissue and valvular apparatus. While viridans group streptococci and Enterococcus species are associated with subacute disease, Staphylococcus aureus, including methicillin-resistant strains (MRSA), is a leading cause of more acutely destructive presentations. The entry of these pathogens can occur through surgical and dental procedures, intravenous drug use, or less apparent etiology. Classic peripheral stigmata (Osler nodes, Janeway lesions, splinter hemorrhages, Roth spots) are now uncommon but clinically meaningful. Current guidelines emphasize rapid multimodality imaging to detect cerebral and systemic emboli in symptomatic IE. We present a 50-year-old man with S. aureus …

The Bubble, The Blockage, And The Barrier: Weighing Pfo Against Moyamoya In An Stroke Mechanism Diagnostic Challenge In Down Syndrome With Achalasia, Jose J. Loayza Pintado, Adolfo Nava, Jose Donis Castaneda, Taiwo Ajani, Cesar Uribe Jun 2026

The Bubble, The Blockage, And The Barrier: Weighing Pfo Against Moyamoya In An Stroke Mechanism Diagnostic Challenge In Down Syndrome With Achalasia, Jose J. Loayza Pintado, Adolfo Nava, Jose Donis Castaneda, Taiwo Ajani, Cesar Uribe

Research Symposium

Background: Paradoxical embolism through a PFO or small ASD is a common mechanism of stroke in young adults, and randomized trials plus contemporary guidelines support closure in carefully selected 18–60-year-olds to reduce recurrence. Individuals with Down syndrome frequently have congenital heart lesions, raising the pretest probability of shunt-mediated stroke. Yet Down syndrome is also linked to moyamoya arteriopathy, creating diagnostic ambiguity when intracranial narrowing is seen on first-pass imaging. We present a 34-year-old woman with Down syndrome, an acute MCA infarct, and a mildly positive bubble study in whom TEE was deferred for achalasia, illustrating a cardiology-led diagnostic challenge that …

Iso 45003/45001 Integration For Psychosocial And Physical Risk Management In Construction: Worker Safety And Workplace Sustainability, Augusta Nkem

CIB Conferences

Purpose: This study examines how psychosocial risk management, guided by ISO 45003, can be effectively integrated within ISO 45001 construction safety management systems to address both psychological and physical dimensions of workplace risk.

Design/methodology/approach: A qualitative thematic synthesis of peer-reviewed literature was conducted, drawing on recent studies, standards, and industry guidance to identify relationships between psychosocial and physical risks, safety climate, and occupational health and safety management systems. The approach follows an integrative review logic to support conceptual development rather than empirical testing.

Findings: The analysis identified three key themes: (1) psychosocial–physical risk interactions operating through cognitive and behavioural mechanisms …

Evaluating Ergonomics Integration In Safety Curriculum Of Civil Engineering Programs In India, Vigneshkumar Chellappa Jun 2026

Evaluating Ergonomics Integration In Safety Curriculum Of Civil Engineering Programs In India, Vigneshkumar Chellappa

CIB Conferences

Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) represent a persistent and significant challenge within the construction industry, contributing substantially to non-fatal injuries and long-term health issues among workers. Addressing this concern requires a workforce equipped with a robust understanding of ergonomics to implement effective MSD prevention strategies. However, the degree to which ergonomics principles are incorporated into the safety education curricula of civil engineering programs in India remains largely unexplored. This study evaluates the current integration of ergonomics into the safety curriculum of master-level civil engineering programs to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement. A comprehensive curriculum review was conducted across six ranked …

Ai-Based Scaffolding Deficiency Detection As A Proactive Construction Safety Intervention: A Conceptual Review Of Methodological Approaches, Adetayo Onososen, Innocent Musonda Jun 2026

Ai-Based Scaffolding Deficiency Detection As A Proactive Construction Safety Intervention: A Conceptual Review Of Methodological Approaches, Adetayo Onososen, Innocent Musonda

CIB Conferences

Falls from height and structural collapse associated with scaffolding remain among the most persistent contributors to construction fatalities worldwide, and the problem is sharper still in resource-constrained settings where inspection capacity is thin on the ground. This paper sets out a conceptual outline for an AI-based scaffolding deficiency detection system designed as a proactive safety intervention rather than a post-incident diagnostic. Drawing on a thematic review of computer vision methods applied to scaffolding inspection between 2019 and 2026, the study maps what has been tried, where the evidence converges, and where it still falls short. Four structural deficiency classes grounded …

Ai Agent And Mcp-Based Information Requirement Framework For Building Digital Twins, Ting Lu Chiang, Ruoyu Jin, Weifeng Chen, Lu Gan, Hongying Meng

CIB Conferences

In the operational phase of buildings, Digital Twins (DT) is utilized to enhance maintenance quality and optimize energy efficiency. Building Information Modeling (BIM) serves not only as a visualization tool but as a semantic foundation within this framework, enabling dynamic IoT sensor data to be accurately mapped into physical elements. The process of integrating BIM models with IoT and DT for application development is lengthy. This governance dilemma arises from the gap between high-level organizational requirements and underlying technical implementation, or lack of clear, adaptable information requirement definitions and the inclusion of redundant data in BIM deliverables, which increases management …
