Enhancement Of Gas Turbine Efficiency By Using Recuperator And Intercooler Systems, Mohammed Saad Kamil Jun 2026

Enhancement Of Gas Turbine Efficiency By Using Recuperator And Intercooler Systems, Mohammed Saad Kamil

Al-Esraa University College Journal for Engineering Sciences

High power density and operational flexibility make gas turbines an indispensable part of contemporary energy conversion systems. However, in the simple cycle configuration, the thermal efficiency is generally low because the exhaust heat loss is large and the compression work is high. The current investigation is focused on enhancing the thermal efficiency of a gas turbine by the introduction of two augmentation schemes, namely a recuperator and an intercooler. A numerical and thermal simulation study was carried out to model the gas turbine cycle based on the first and second laws of thermodynamics. Simplicity and Modified cycles Performance of simple …

Performance Evaluation Of Multi-Stage Compressors And Their Impact On Energy Conversion System Efficiency `A Field Study At Thi-Qar Oil Company', Taha Chyad Thajeel

Al-Esraa University College Journal for Engineering Sciences

This paper is a field-based performance assessment of a multi-stage natural gas compressor that is operating in realistic industrial conditions. The data is analyzed using the real operating data taken in a particular oil and gas plant and, therefore, the actual operating data is used to determine the trends of thermodynamic behavior, energy consumption, and efficiency, instead of theoretical or simulation-based assumptions. The analysis was performed phase by phase in order to examine the distribution of pressure ratios, temperature increase and power consumption in the compressor stages. The findings demonstrate that there is a significant difference between the power of …

Experimental Analysis Of Thermal - Hydraulic Enhancement In A Shell-And-U-Tube Heat Exchanger Using Copper Foam Baffles, Rawaa Hussein Al-Meammar

Al-Esraa University College Journal for Engineering Sciences

Porous metal foams have emerged as a promising medium for thermal management due to their high surface area, low density, and excellent thermal conductivity. This study investigates the effect of copper porous foam baffles with different pore densities (5 and 10 PPI) on the thermal and hydraulic performance of a shell-and-U-tube water–water heat exchanger. An experimental setup was developed to evaluate the Nusselt number, heat transfer coefficient, pressure drop, and friction factor over a range of Reynolds numbers across the annular side. The results revealed that incorporating porous metal foam significantly enhanced heat transfer compared with the smooth-tube configuration. At …

Ai-Enhanced Heat Transfer Optimization In Magnetic Bio-Nanofluids, Hasan Attyah Shaboot Jun 2026

Ai-Enhanced Heat Transfer Optimization In Magnetic Bio-Nanofluids, Hasan Attyah Shaboot

Al-Esraa University College Journal for Engineering Sciences

This study presents a hybrid Artificial Intelligence–Computational Fluid Dynamics (AI-CFD) framework for optimizing heat transfer in magnetic bio-nanofluids subjected to external magnetic fields. Magnetic bio-nanofluids, composed of biocompatible base fluids containing superparamagnetic nanoparticles, exhibit tunable thermal and flow behavior, making them promising for biomedical and micro-cooling applications. Conventional optimization methods based on experiments or brute-force CFD are computationally expensive and limited in exploring the full design space. To overcome these challenges, an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) surrogate model was developed to predict two key performance indicators, the Nusselt number and the friction factor, with high accuracy (R2 > 0.997). The …

Effect Of High Protein Diets On Kidney Health Among Athletes And Bodybuilders With Normal Kidney Function, Mustafa Mehdi Alqazzaz, Sajad Abdullah Jleep, Nouran Hussein Mutlaq, Ali Jabbar Jassem

Al-Esraa University College Journal for Medical Sciences

This study emphasizes the effect of high-protein diets(HPD) on kidney function, focusing on key biomarkers (Albumin, Urea, Creatinine & GFR). A HPD is defined as a protein consumption >1.5g/kg per day. Results indicated variations in certain biomarkers among the participants (healthy athletes & bodybuilders with normal kidney function) suggesting potential changes in renal workload. Many studies in resistance-trained athletes focusing at HPD, concluded that there are no harmful effects of HPD on renal health. While no immediate kidney damage was observed, we suggest further investigation into the long -term implications of HPD, particularly for individuals with specific health conditions.

Despite a significant number of anatomical, genetic and chromosomal studies, the problem of recurrent miscarriage (RM) is still one of the challenges in reproductive medicine, as in almost 50% of the cases no clear cause is found. These are unexplained cases that are frequently called idiopathic RM and indicate that there might be an underlying molecular and biochemical mechanism that is not routinely checked during clinical practice. This review focuses on the key role of oxidative stress and redox imbalance in the pathogenesis of idiopathic RM. A special focus is placed on mitochondrial dysfunction, which results in increased electron leakage …

Evaluation Of A Vortex Flow Device On A Center Pivot Irrigation System, Ankit Chandra, Derek M. Heeren, Tyler Smith

Department of Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering: Presentations and White Papers

This study presents the first independent field evaluation of a passive vortex flow device designed to reduce hydraulic friction in pressurized irrigation systems. Experiments were conducted on a full-scale, groundwater-fed center pivot irrigation system at the Eastern Nebraska Research, Extension, and Education Center (ENREEC). A paired comparison approach was used to quantify differences in flow rate, energy consumption, and pressure distribution along the pivot lateral under baseline (no device) and treatment (device installed) conditions. Results showed negligible change in system flow rate (621 vs. 618 gpm) and energy consumption (~1.2% difference), consistent with expectations for pressure-regulated irrigation systems. However, the …
