Extraction Of Activated Carbon From Date Palm Biowaste And Subsequent Preparation Of Ferrite Nanocomposite For Water Treatment In Uae, Anood Lashkary Ahmed Ibrahim

Theses

Ensuring access to clean and safe water remains a pressing global challenge, particularly in arid regions like the Gulf, where freshwater scarcity is severe. The United Arab Emirates heavily depends on energy-intensive desalination, which is increasingly turning to treated wastewater as a sustainable alternative. In this context, the recovery and reuse of biowaste and the development of advanced treatment technologies are critical. This study presents an innovative approach to wastewater treatment by utilizing biomass waste—specifically date palm leaves, an abundant agricultural residue in the UAE—as a raw material for producing activated carbon. Through pyrolysis, the biowaste is transformed into porous …

The Role Of Ai In Digital Propaganda And Its Influence On Public Political Perception. A Case Study Of The Uae Citizen, Maitha Salem Mohamed Alshamsi Jan 2025

The Role Of Ai In Digital Propaganda And Its Influence On Public Political Perception. A Case Study Of The Uae Citizen, Maitha Salem Mohamed Alshamsi

Theses

The study investigates the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in digital propaganda and its influence on public political perception, using the United Arab Emirates as a case study. It aims to understand how AI-generated content shapes political opinions by analyzing the relationships between digital propaganda exposure, AI content interaction, social media engagement and media literacy. In addition, the study uses the Framing Theory (1974) by Erving Goffman. It posits that individuals interpret information and events through cognitive frameworks or "frames" that organize and influence their understanding. It implies that AI amplifies specific frames by customizing content and targeting audiences, which …

User Perceptions Of Ai Services In Abu Dhabi Government: An Empirical Study Of Satisfaction And Acceptance Factors On The Tamm Platform, Muneera Ali Zaher Alsulaimani

Theses

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming how governments deliver services by enabling automation, personalization, and data-driven decisionmaking. In the United Arab Emirates, particularly in Abu Dhabi Emirate, the TAMM platform exemplifies this transformation, integrating AI to streamline citizen-government interaction. Understanding the factors that influence the user’s satisfaction of Powered AI services in the public sector is crucial for effective policy implementation and user engagement. This study employs a sequential explanatory mixed-methods approach, grounded in the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), extended with User Satisfaction as a fifth construct. Quantitative data were collected from 137 TAMM platform users …

The Role And The Limitation Of Ai Implementations In Pcb Defect Detection, Hamad Saeed Mohammed Alyammahi Jan 2025

The Role And The Limitation Of Ai Implementations In Pcb Defect Detection, Hamad Saeed Mohammed Alyammahi

Theses

This research explores the transformative impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on quality control in Printed Circuit Board (PCB) fabrication, explicitly focusing on enhancing defect detection processes. As PCB designs become increasingly complex and dense, traditional inspection methods, such as manual inspection and Automated Optical Inspection (AOI), need to be revised to meet the precision and efficiency demands of modern electronics manufacturing. Manual inspection is often slow and labor-intensive, while AOI needs help with accuracy in detecting subtle defects in intricate designs, leading to potential errors in quality assurance. This study investigates AI-driven techniques to overcome these challenges, leveraging deep learning …

An Inclusive Learning Metaverse: A Virtual Reality Approach To Supporting Dyslexic Children, Reem Salem Mohammed Salem Jan 2025

An Inclusive Learning Metaverse: A Virtual Reality Approach To Supporting Dyslexic Children, Reem Salem Mohammed Salem

Theses

Dyslexia is one of the most common learning difficulties worldwide, often requiring tailored interventions targeting phonological awareness, reading comprehension, and cognitive support. This study explores the design and evaluation of a metaverse-based virtual reality (VR) application to support dyslexic children in the UAE. Using a usercentered, explanatory sequential mixed-methods approach, the research involved three phases: a stakeholder survey with therapists, educators, and parents (N = 151), development of a multi-featured VR prototype, and evaluation by six dyslexia experts. The survey identified key priorities such as progress tracking, adaptive learning, accessibility, working memory, and attention, along with concerns about VR unfamiliarity, …

Introduction: Beyond Hollow Materialism, Jasper Waugh-Quasebarth, Zada Komara Jan 2025

Introduction: Beyond Hollow Materialism, Jasper Waugh-Quasebarth, Zada Komara

Art Faculty Publications

This introduction to the special issue, “Transformative Approaches to Materiality in Appalachian Studies,” provides theoretical background and examples that demonstrate applications of new material culture and materiality theory to key Appalachian studies themes. It offers new directions for the study of material entanglement in social relationships by reviewing the history of material culture studies in the Appalachian context, fundamental theoretical propositions emerging from the “material turn” in social theory, and examples drawn from ethnographic and archaeological research into the patterns of use of material culture in the timber country of West Virginia and coalfields of eastern Kentucky. Finally, this introduction …

Assessing The Foraging Habits Of Two Species Of Long-Horned Bees (Melissodes, Apidae) Using Dna Barcodes Its2 And Trnl, Rebecca Jane Foy

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

Sunflowers (Helianthus, Asteraceae) are an important crop used for oil, dye, fodder, and edible seeds. Long-horned bees (Melissodes, Apidae) are solitary species native to the Americas that specialize in sunflower pollination; they are among the most frequent visitors to sunflowers, and have been shown to enhance yield, offering considerable economic benefits to sunflower production. This study used metabarcoding to investigate the foraging habits of two understudied Melissodes species, M. trinodis and M. agilis. Using the ITS2 and trnL barcodes, our study aimed to (1) investigate the plants visited by M. agilis and M. trinodis and (2) assess the distances Melissodes …

Captured Innovation: Technology Monopoly Response To Transformational Development, Reed Showalter, Laura Edelson Jan 2025

Captured Innovation: Technology Monopoly Response To Transformational Development, Reed Showalter, Laura Edelson

The University of Chicago Business Law Review

This Article examines how monopoly power warps incentives to innovate within the largest tech companies across history. Technology monopolies face competing incentives: to innovate and to maintain the status quo. As the center of their market, monopolists have resources and capacity to generate tremendous disruptive innovation. However, disruptive innovation serves only to threaten to destabilize the profitable market structure that a monopolist sits atop. We find that technology monopolists do not fail to innovate, but that they instead restrict that innovation from being released to the market or release the innovation in a diminished way, yoked to the existing technology …

The “Co-Conspirator Exception” To Illinois Brick: Mandatory Joinder Of Direct Purchaser Co-Conspirators, Nikki Chavez Brown Jan 2025

The “Co-Conspirator Exception” To Illinois Brick: Mandatory Joinder Of Direct Purchaser Co-Conspirators, Nikki Chavez Brown

The University of Chicago Business Law Review

Illinois Brick was intended to be a bright-line rule prohibiting indirect purchasers from recovering damages against an upstream antitrust violator under § 4 of the Clayton Act for overcharges passed-on by direct purchasers. In reality, the Illinois Brick decision has resulted in a patchwork of incongruent jurisprudence governing antitrust standing in private enforcement cases. In a seemingly endless struggle to satisfy long-recognized antitrust principles of compensation and deterrence through private enforcement, courts have employed an inconsistent array of rationales and “exceptions” to Illinois Brick. The so-called “co-conspirator exception” to Illinois Brick is intended to provide the first purchaser from outside …

Investing In Leaders To Support Neurodiversity At Work, Beth M. Houran Jan 2025

Investing In Leaders To Support Neurodiversity At Work, Beth M. Houran

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

Neurodiversity-focused hiring initiatives, such as those pioneered by JP Morgan Chase, DXC Technology, and Microsoft, are addressing talent shortages by harnessing the unique strengths of neurodiverse individuals. This research investigated the role of emotional intelligence, servant leadership, and organizational resources in supporting neurodiverse teams. Grounded in the conservation of resources theory, the findings reveal that EI is a significant antecedent to SL, enabling leaders to foster stronger relationships and engage in extra-role behaviors with neurodiverse employees. Notably, while SL positively impacts leader-member exchange and organizational citizenship behavior toward individuals, the hypothesized moderating role of resources was not supported, suggesting that …
