Bullying Victimization In Middle Schools: A Quantitative Correlational Study, Corey Centwane Calhoun Sr.
Bullying Victimization In Middle Schools: A Quantitative Correlational Study, Corey Centwane Calhoun Sr.
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Bullying victimization is a very common, complex and potentially damaging form of violence among children and adolescents. Bullying is defined as unwanted, aggressive behavior, which involves a real or perceived social power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time (therefore, the definition excludes occasional or minor incidents). Bullying victimization in schools is not only alarming, but it has now become a persuasive concern, one that should be evaluated closely by educators, parents, and policymakers in all school systems. In public schools, 1 in 10 reports at least a case of serious violent crime, …

Journal of Curriculum, Teaching, Learning and Leadership in Education
In response to challenges faced by middle and high school educators during the COVID-19 pandemic, a study was conducted in the Spring of 2021 involving 33 early-career mathematics teachers and eight supervising school principals in the State of California. These participants completed detailed surveys which provided demographic information, as well as perceptions of support, efficacy and job satisfaction. Findings show a variety of associations among teacher perceptions of support and their efficacy and job satisfaction in the face of challenging circumstances. As it related to principal support and recognition, principal participants expressed confidence in their ability to support teachers as …

Peninsula Medical School
Research reports high levels of mental health problems faced by young people in the UK. Schools provide a range of mental health support services, although these are often not robustly evaluated. This paper aims to explore the mental health provision of secondary schools across two large regions in the North of England and provide comparisons to the mental health questionnaire scores of their pupils. Results are part of a wider study providing an overview of the mental health of secondary school pupils. Measures include the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire, distributed to year 8, 9, and 11 pupils attending secondary schools …
A Good Life: Palliative Care In The World Of Dementia, Nicola Farmer
A Good Life: Palliative Care In The World Of Dementia, Nicola Farmer
Journal of Interdisciplinary Graduate Research
Objective: The World Health Organization (2019) reports that dementia is the seventh leading cause of death with an estimated 50 million people worldwide with this disease. In the United States out of one and a half million Medicare patients on hospice in 2016, only 18% had dementia (The National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, 2017). McAteer and Wellbery (2013) identified that while referrals to services seem to be on the rise, many are not made until the patient is close to death in the last weeks of an illness. The purpose of this project was to review the literature to …

Raised on a farm in Alabama, an imaginative child made a basketball from scraps, taught himself how to play and earned a scholarship to college. Now, that child, the Rev. Johnny L. Searight, and his wife, Shirley P. Searight, alumni of Gardner-Webb University, want to create educational opportunities for students in similar situations. With the help of the GWU Advancement team, they have established the Searight Leadership Certificate (SLC) and the Searight Multicultural Leadership Award (SMLA).

The Digital Divide: A Consideration Of Justice And Pastoral Care In Moral Spaces In Response To Underserved Communities Experiencing Inequity In Technology- The Bible Dictates Our Christian Response, Lael Melville
Doctor of Ministry Projects and Theses
The Melville Family Foundation understands that poverty in underserved communities’ fuels economic instability fostering inequality in education. The COVID19 pandemic highlighted poverty as a breeding ground for injustice. The Pandemic drove life as we knew it online, further highlighting inequities in the technology space or the “digital divide”. Christians have a responsibility to the digital divide in a way that facilitates justice while responding with the love of God.
The aim is to explore the digital divide in the consideration of justice and pastoral care in response to underserved communities experiencing inequity in technology.
The researcher of this study will …

Problem:
Most Americans indicate they are religious and/or spiritual and wish to have their beliefs taken into account when engaging with health care providers, yet gaps in medical education and health care practice remain. To underscore the importance of spirituality as a significant social determinant of health, a team at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York developed mandatory spirituality and health training for students integrated into all 4 years of the undergraduate medical education curriculum.
Approach:
From 2014 to 2020, a small group of faculty took an innovative approach, launching the initiative and expanding the …

Monmouth’S Empowering Young Black Males Leadership Mentoring Program: A Catalyst For Retention, Access & Student Success, Vernon L. S. Smith, Sharlene M. Smith, Lindsey Rae O'Brien
Journal of Access, Retention, and Inclusion in Higher Education
This manuscript will provide an anecdotal report of the key elements of Monmouth University’s Empowering Young Black Males Leadership Mentoring program and its relevance to the university’s goals for diversity and inclusion. The program served dual roles, one as a catalyst for access to opportunities for personal and academic achievement for high school Black male students (mentees), and a retention initiative for current Black male college students (mentors). Throughout the program, participants were exposed to various leadership development workshops and topics related to academic, career, college access, and personal success. The program created a transformative learning opportunity for Monmouth’s current …

The Contemporary Situation Of Elderly People In Ethiopia And The Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus, Tsigewengel B. Uddo
Master of Art Theology Thesis
Uddo Tsigewengel B. “The Contemporary Situation of Elderly People in Ethiopia and the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus.” MA Thesis, Concordia Seminary, 2022. 100pp.
The Church is God’s agent to serve God’s people in the church and society at large. The scope of the Church’s ministry comprises all ages: young, adult, and elderly. Culturally, in Ethiopia, children and close family members are responsible for caring for the elderly, therefore, the church has not given satisfactory attention to holistic elderly care. Moreover, current societal change and globalization have negatively affected the indigenous family-support system for the elderly. As a result, many …

Czech Resistance To Organized Religion, Donald L. Schwarz Jr.
Czech Resistance To Organized Religion, Donald L. Schwarz Jr.
Theology Undergraduate Work
According to current statistics, the Czech Republic is a secular, post-communist, post-Christian nation that is almost 80% atheist/agnostic, yet it boasts a vibrant spiritual heritage. Over the last twenty-five years of ministry in this country, the author has observed that it is challenging for Czechs, specifically those newly professing faith in Christ, to integrate into local Czech churches. This research paper briefly reviews the Biblical foundations for the Church, its mission and purpose, and then explores some of the reasons that Czechs resist the Church and organized religion. This paper argues that Czechs are not averse to God but rather …
