It’S About Time: Understanding Job Crafting Through The Lens Of Individuals’ Temporal Characteristics, Hannah Weisman, Uta K. Bindl, Cristina B. Gibson, Kerrie L. Unsworth

All Faculty Open Access Publications

Job crafting refers to the myriad ways employees customize their jobs, such as by altering their tasks and social interaction at work. Numerous scholars over the past 20 years have remarked on the overall need to better understand the role of time in job crafting. However, the literature has not considered how employees think about time, or, relatedly, how they use and manage it—and why this might matter for job crafting. To address these unresolved issues, the current paper develops a conceptual model of individual-level, time-related characteristics that shape employees’ engagement in job crafting and the effects of job crafting …

Coachmotivation: Leveraging Motivational Interviewing Methodology To Increase Emotion Regulation Ability In The Workplace, Michael R. Nelson

Industrial-Organizational Psychology Dissertations

Emotions are complex, powerful states that both positively and negatively impact personal and professional human experiences. One’s ability to regulate their emotions has been related to desirable organizational outcomes such as (a) decreased counterproductive work behaviors (CWBs), stress, and negative emotions and (b) increased well-being, coping abilities, and job satisfaction. However, appropriate workplace interventions that increase perceived emotion regulation (PER) abilities continue to be limited. Stemming from Motivational Interviewing (MI), CoachMotivation (CM) is a modified form of organizational coaching that translates core practices of clinical MI interventions (i.e., OARS: open questions, affirmations, reflections, summary statements) into coaching conversations in the …

Identifying Complex Adaptive Systems Using Quantitative Approaches At A Midsized Biotechnology Firm, Sean M. Sullivan

All Theses And Dissertations

Rapid technological progress is becoming more challenging for organizations to implement and manage. The traditional, hierarchical leadership models are often inadequate to cope with continuous change, and the inability to keep up with the latest advances can quickly imperil a company. In particular, the field of biotechnology is currently experiencing revolutionary advances. Where hierarchical leadership models lapse, complexity theory and complexity leadership theory may provide an alternative leadership model for successful organizational adaptation. However, much of the research surrounding complexity theory remains academic. Historical data from a biotechnology company was analyzed during a computer hardware and software upgrade to detect …

Growing Pains: The Effect Of Generational Product Innovation On Mobile Games Performance, Liang Chen, Pengxiang Zhang, Sali Li, Scott F. Turner Apr 2022

Growing Pains: The Effect Of Generational Product Innovation On Mobile Games Performance, Liang Chen, Pengxiang Zhang, Sali Li, Scott F. Turner

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

Research Summary: Strategy research advises firms to capture generative value by continually introducing generational improvements on their existing products. This article considers a potential dark side of such strategy. We argue that generational innovation can elicit a negative near-term response from customers, as it distorts their ingrained behavioral patterns and imposes learning costs. Further, we propose that this negative effect of generational innovation will diminish when the product has a leading market position; and it will be more severe as the product's technological legacy lengthens. Using a difference-in-differences research design based on mobile game apps that multihome on two platforms, …

This study examines a veteran transitional program designed explicitly for Post 9/11 High-Performing Veterans (HIPOVeterans) conducted at the Union League of Philadelphia. The program address’s identity and brand presence along with traditional transition methods and tools. Reducing Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections: Beyond The Bundle, Deana Cirillo

Student Scholarly Projects

Practice Problem: Catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) are preventable but are still the most common healthcare-associated infection (HAI) worldwide, encumbering the health of patients and escalating financial burden on society (CDC, 2021; Shadle, 2021).

PICOT: In adult patients with spinal cord injury, does direct observation of urinary catheter insertion, compared to the standard of care, reduce the rate of catheter-associated urinary tract infections, within ten weeks of implementation?

Evidence: Multiple factors contribute to Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs), but hand hygiene is the most important prevention measure to decrease contact transmission (Gould et al., 2017). The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) clinical …

The Praxis Of Realizing Election Imperatives In Trump’S America, Sayil Camacho

eJournal of Public Affairs

American democracy and higher education were not guided by the principle of equality. However, the sociopolitical history of the United States does not negate the responsibility that educators, university administrators, and policymakers maintain today. As a means to advance the praxis of civic engagement within higher education, this study details the work that was accomplished to (a) establish a nonpartisan higher education coalition in the state of Tennessee and (b) institutionalize student political learning and engagement at Vanderbilt University, Tennessee's premier research university. Tennessee is a voting restrictive state with poor educational outcomes for historically marginalized populations—this present day reality …
