AbstractApproximately one third of surgical patients have undiagnosed obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), the most common form of sleep disordered breathing, which presents a risk in the perioperative setting. OSA is underdiagnosed and undertreated in the adult population and has an economic impact on limited healthcare resources. The need existed for nurses in the perioperative setting to be educated on OSA, including the introduction of the STOP-BANG screening questionnaire. Nursing self-awareness is essential for nurses to develop relationships with co-workers and patients. In the local organization, the practice problem for this doctoral project is a perceived low level of self-awareness in nursing. This Doctor of Nursing project aimed to determine if an educational intervention focused on self-awareness and the benefit of self-awareness increased knowledge among nurses working on a medical-surgical unit. A comprehensive literature review of peer-reviewed evidence provided evidence to support this project. A total of 26 individuals (N = 26) participated in the educational intervention. One of the most important factors affecting the quality of diabetes care is the association between a patient’s knowledge and their practices. The practice gap in this primary care clinic was a lack of standardized diabetic foot care. The purpose of this DNP project was to provide nursing staff with an evidence- based, culturally congruent diabetic footcare curriculum that could help decrease inconsistencies in care. This article presents a tri-party collaborative course-design framework using a case study based on the launch of a new 4th year course at the University of Toronto, Mississauga, Department of Management. This study employed a multi-method qualitative approach consisting of a survey, followed by three focus groups with distinct stakeholder groups: students, industry practitioners, and academics. The results revealed a surprising overlap of interests among the different groups, with the data supporting the design of the new course, which was launched in the Fall of 2022. Racial microaggressions are statements that occur in everyday life that are regarded as instances of subtle or unintentional discrimination against members of a racial or ethnic minority. For African Americans, racial microaggressions are feelings of denigration and exclusion. Racial aggressions experienced by African American women in clinical counseling profession (counseling, psychology, social work, mental health) supervision have not been well-studied. Women were officially allowed to serve in combat positions when the 1993 Combat Exclusion Policy was lifted in 2013. There was little research to date on how these changes may have influenced the recruitment, retention, and promotion of female naval officers. Officials from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) created the hospital valued-based purchasing (VBP) program focused on controlling cost, inefficiencies, and quality-of-care. Hospital leaders are incentivized or penalized based on meeting quality outcomes and risk millions of dollars in reimbursement if they do not meet the quality-of-care standards specified in the CMS hospital VBP program. AbstractOvercrowding in emergency departments (EDs) is a systemic issue, resulting in inefficiencies affecting patient care quality. Hospital leaders struggle with reducing bottlenecks in EDs and providing a better patient care experience. Grounded in the general systems theory, the purpose of this qualitative single case study was to explore strategies used to reduce inefficiencies in EDs. The participants included five directors, administrators, and clinical managers from a hospital ED in Idaho Falls, Idaho, who successfully used strategies to reduce inefficiencies in EDs.
