Classifying Control Variables, Michael F. Van Breda

Historical Working Papers

Interviews with 68 managers from 20 Fortune 500 firms were used to discern control variables that managers use to control production and evaluate management performance. It was concluded that financial accounting variables tend to be the most used and as a corollary, the control variables do not serve very well in evaluating progress toward long- term goals. Discussion suggests that accounting variables are most appealing because of their appearance of validity and legitimacy.

The ideology of intercollegiate athletics in …

The Effects Of Feedback On Improving Safe Work Behaviors: A Component Analysis, Jeanine L. Williamson

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Decline in the growth rate of worker productivity as well as the failure of other types of organizational development strategies to improve productivity has resulted in considerable interest in strategies to change employee behavior. This situation has led to the rapid growth of organizational behavior modification (OBM) as an approach to organizational change. Performance feedback interventions have been used in numerous settings to improve work behaviors (Prue & Fairbanks, 1981). OBM has worked especially well in improving safe work behavior in the work place. However, when new approaches are used in dealing with human behavior, much systematic, thorough research must …

However, the Amended Proposal is not markedly different in substance from the Original Proposal. The purpose of this article is to briefly analyze the Amended Proposal and to draw some general comparisons with United States corporation law.

Academic Library Services: The Literature Of Innovation, Jo Bell Whitlatch, Judy Reynolds Jan 1985

Academic Library Services: The Literature Of Innovation, Jo Bell Whitlatch, Judy Reynolds

Faculty Publications

Innovation has the potential for increasing the effectiveness of information service. As a result of this interest in innovation, organizational theorists have begun to explore the effect of organizational design upon flexibility, creativity, and productivity of organizations. A review of existing literature, however, provides no comprehensive theory of organizational innovation. Research on organizational design and innovation in libraries could contribute to the systematic study of the impact of organization structure . Studies by Howard and Luquire indicate that traditional library organizations may inhibit change as well as the reexamination of values and service. Further study is needed to determine how …
