Background/aim: Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an autosomal recessive disease caused by mutations in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) gene. CF is characterized by respiratory tract infections, pancreatic insufficiency, meconium ileus, intestinal obstruction, and male infertility. A genotype to phenotype correlation is difficult to establish because of the heterogeneity of disease severity. Even patients with the same CFTR mutation can have varying clinical severities. In recent years, studies have explored the role of microRNA (miRNA) expression in the regulation of respiratory diseases. However, no research has been conducted to date on miRNAs in siblings with the same CFTR mutation. …

Cattle feeding and livestock production are central to U.S. agriculture and represent some of the most hazardous occupational environments. Workers in feedyards and on cattle farms and ranches face elevated risks of injury due to physically demanding labor, frequent animal handling, and exposure to environmental and ergonomic hazards. Many feedyard workers are Hispanic/Latino immigrants who may experience additional barriers related to language, healthcare access, and job security. Similarly, injury risks among cattle producers are compounded by seasonal workload fluctuations, limited rest opportunities, and psychosocial stressors. Beyond individual impacts, agricultural injuries also pose a substantial economic burden. Recent estimates indicate that …

Colostrum Extracellular Vesicle Are Neuroprotective In The Mptp Intoxicated Mouse Model Of Parkinson's Disease, Samia Akter
Theses & Dissertations
Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder. Dopaminergic neuronal loss in the substantia nigra and the formation of Lewy bodies are the disease pathological hallmarks. We demonstrate that bovine colostrum extracellular vesicles (EVs) induce anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective activities during MPTP (methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine) intoxication. Treatment these mice with colostrum EVs reduced the extent of activated microglia and neurodegenerative activities. RNA sequencing and transcriptomic analysis revealed a significant decrease in pro- inflammatory responses, as well as reduced recruitment and activation of immunocytes in affected brain tissues. Decreased expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines, as well as suppressed canonical inflammasomes, was …

The study revealed that histochemical examination of the lens and retina in the fish Poecilia latipinna reflects adaptation and acclimation to dark and light conditions. The tissue sections of the lens and retina were stained with different stains and examined by a light microscope. The lens was found to be spherical in shape, transparent, hard, and avascular. The lens was surrounded by a cellular homogeneous capsule and followed by cuboidal epithelial cell layer, which was situated beneath the capsule. The epithelial cells elongated into lens fibers that were arranged in concentric rings, and the lens fiber membranes took a serrated …

Prostate cancer is a frequent masculine disease, especially when becoming older. Paraoxonase-1 (PON-1) is an enzyme present in the human body that plays an important function in preventing oxidative stress and inflammation. It is mostly linked to high-density lipoprotein (HDL). Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) is an enzyme regulating blood sugar levels. It is found on many cells surfaces: immune cells, epithelial cells, and pancreatic cells. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to determine the biochemical role of PON-1 effect and DPP-4 enzymes with the anti-cancer ability of vitamin D. Research samples were collected from Iraqi prostate cancer patients (male aged …
