The Role Of Mindfulness As A Preventative Measure To Reduce Stress, Burnout, And Symptoms Of Traumatic Stress In Nursing Students, Kara Zondervan
Mindfulness Studies Theses
Nurses and nursing students frequently face high-stress environments due to demanding workloads, human suffering, death, and complex decision-making. Global nursing shortages and the recent COVID-19 pandemic have worsened daily stressors in healthcare settings, leading to poor mental health, unpredictable work situations, and low job satisfaction. The physical and psychological strain of working in understaffed, under-resourced environments leads to higher rates of absenteeism, turnover, and challenges in staff retention and recruitment. This emphasizes the need for nursing students to be well-prepared to handle and cope with the inherent stressors of nursing education and future clinical practice. Research also shows that nursing …

Bonding With Earth: Hyperbole, Metaphor, Or Fanciful Teleology?, George Conesa
Bonding With Earth: Hyperbole, Metaphor, Or Fanciful Teleology?, George Conesa
The International Journal of Ecopsychology (IJE)
At a mere glance, the notion that humans could (should strive for?) bond emotionally with an entire planet, Earth, sounds hyperbolic at best and psychologically unsound at worst. For although humans might be motivated to act in ways that pass for “bonding,” perhaps assisted by intentions and sentiments to care for a whole planet, the question remains: Which notion of Earth are they really investing all their emotions in? Important to psychologists would be to inquire whether incomplete, idealized, oversimplified, or fantastic notions of “Earth,” or bonding, turn out to be transference-love-like, platonic, overidealized forms of affect, which seldom develop …

The effect of vamorolone, the first dissociative corticosteroid for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), at the mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) was investigated in the Phase 1 mechanistic LIONHEART study and using serum samples from boys with DMD in the pivotal VISION-DMD trial. In LIONHEART, 30 healthy adult males were randomized 1:1:1 to vamorolone 20 mg/kg, eplerenone 200 mg, or no treatment arms. A fludrocortisone challenge was administered between –9 h and 24 h after treatment. The LIONHEART primary outcome was urinary Na+/K+ ratio; additional outcomes were pharmacokinetics, urine Na+ and K+ concentrations, and safety. In VISION-DMD, boys with DMD aged 4–7 years …

This editorial comment is on the article by Xu et al. It offers an in-depth analysis of liver function assessment tools and their prognostic roles in non-malignant liver diseases, with a focus on the albumin-bilirubin (ALBI) score. ALBI’s components, grading system, and clinical relevance across various liver conditions are reviewed and compared with traditional models such as the Child-Pugh and model for end-stage liver disease scores. We included recent studies evaluating ALBI’s role in estimating liver function, suggesting it may help differentiate patients who appear similar under other staging systems, and assist in guiding clinical decisions. Although ALBI is primarily …

Coumarin-nitrogen heterocyclic compounds (e.g. quinoline, acridine, and phthalazine) were synthesized by facile reactions and elucidated by FTIR, 1H, and 13C-NMR analyses, which showed consistency with the expected structures. Coumarin-quinoline (drug A)- and coumarin-acridine (drug B)-loaded electrospun PMMA/PVP nanofibrous scaffolds were fabricated using electrospinning techniques. Results showed a successful PMMA/PVP blend, which formed the matrix that was used as the main scaffold for drug loading/release. The drugs (A and B) were encapsulated within the matrix as verified by IR and SEM results. Bio-evaluation through cytotoxicity and anticancer screening was conducted using the MTT assay against lung fibroblast (Wi-38), colon carcinoma (Caco-2), …

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is an X-linked recessive muscular dystrophy (MD) that typically presents after ambulation due to progressive proximal muscle weakness. The average age of diagnosis is 4.83 years. However, there are some subtle signs that can help in early diagnosis and delay the progression of the disease. We present a non-classical DMD case in a six-month-old infant with failure to thrive, persistent emesis, transaminitis, and truncal weakness, leading to an early diagnosis of DMD. Initial workup for failure to thrive was unremarkable, other than persistently elevated liver enzymes aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine transaminase (ALT) with normal alkaline …

Background: Chemotherapy-related musculoskeletal adverse effects, such as muscle wasting, reduced muscle mass, muscle and joint pain, decreased bone density, joint stiffness, and inflammation, can impair physical activity and impact overall survival (Sutton et al., 2019; Sturgeon et al., 2019; Pin et al., 2018; Jang et al., 2020; Lee et al., 2019). However, limited research exists on the changes in musculoskeletal health and physical performance among women with gynecological cancer throughout chemotherapy.
Purpose: This study aimed to examine changes in musculoskeletal health and physical performance across chemotherapy cycles and identify factors influencing these changes.
Methods: A prospective longitudinal …
