Seluruh dokumen kebijakan …

Management Of Dysphagia In Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Kuo-Chang Wei, Wen-Chin Weng, Tyng-Guey Wang
Rehabilitation Practice and Science
Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is an autosomal recessive neuromuscular disease. SMA phenotypes can be determined by the timing of disease onset and the highest level of motor development reachable by the patient. Generally speaking, proximal muscle involvement is more severe than in the distal extremities. In addition, cervical and the masticatory and pharyngeal muscles were likely affected by the disease, which can cause feeding problems and dysphagia. Clinically, dysphagia is more common among patients with type I and type II SMA. To thoroughly evaluate swallowing-related issues, both subjective information from patients and their caregivers and findings from objective tools including …

Rehabilitation Practice and Science
This study was designed to explore the high-intensity interval training (HIIT) effects on cardiorespiratory fitness as well as the reversal of left ventricle (LV) remodeling, and association between them in heart failure (HF) patients. We included HF patients under our HF care program between 2009 and 2018. The 17 HF patients enrolled in the study were further divided into in-hospital supervised HIIT (n=8) or medical care (control) (n=9) groups according to their preference. All participants underwent cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) examination and a cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) before the exercise intervention or medical care. The HIIT participants had 36 …

Journal of Bioresource Management
Plants are rich in bioactive chemical secondary metabolites and have proven insecticidal activity by killing or repelling insects. In this work, we aim to evaluate the direct and delayed effects of ethanolic plant extracts on the vinegar fly (Drosophila melanogaster). The treatment was performed by ingestion on second instar larvae (L2) to evaluate the impact of the ethanolic extract on development for 15 days and subsequently on the feeding behavior of the larvae. The results of this study indicate a slowing down of pupal growth until the adult stage, at the three concentrations (0.25 µg/ml, 0.5 µg/ml, 1.5 …

The need for rehabilitation services in nursing homes (NH) for the elderly is increasing each year, and this need is fulfilled both with ordinary clinical rehabilitation center visits, as well as community-based rehabilitation (CBR) inside the facility. However, a proper situation analysis is needed to establish a well-delivered CBR program in the NH, a niche to be fulfilled in this study. This study used a descriptive measurement and cross-sectional design to target the elderly who are living in the NHs. Consecutive sampling was done in the largest NH in Jakarta, in Cipayung District. Participants who were dependently ambulated were assessed …

Assessment Of Seasonal Variations In Forage Quality In Saanane Island National Park, Mwanza, Tanzania, George M. Sangu, Cuthbert L. Nahonyo
Tanzania Journal of Science
Seasonal variations in proteins, vitamin A, vitamin C, carbohydrates and minerals (Ca, Fe, Na, K and P) for seven most grazed and four most browsed plant species were assessed using laboratory analysis to determine what nutrient resources were available to grazers and browsers inhabiting the Saanane Island. The results indicated great seasonal variations in proteins, vitamin A, vitamin C and carbohydrates which were statistically significant with P < 0.01, F 3.444 at DF 5. Similarly, the minerals (Ca, Fe, Na, K and P) showed greater seasonal variations with K and P being higher during wet season, while Na and Fe were higher in dry season. The levels of proteins, vitamins, fibres and minerals were well above daily dietary requirements for grazers and browsers. These results suggested that both grazers and browsers were benefiting from seasonal differences in terms of available resources at disposal as animal health is regulated by levels of proteins and vitamins available in grazing and browsing materials. The current research aimed at using the application of multi-factor models to support fisheries management decisions for successful resources’ conservation. The study was based on the tilapia species Coptodon guineensis, which is among the most widely exploited in Benin coastal zone. In an attempt to suggest conservation strategies, the phenotypic variability of 356 accessions of this species was assessed in relation with water salinity, and several interactions. The fish were collected through small-scale experimental fishing using cast nets and gillnets. The findings indicated that the salinity observed in the sampled rivers is due, at proportions ranging from 0.13% to 47%, …

Lithium is a relevant mood-stabilizing agent that is used in the management of depressive and manic episodes in bipolar, disorder; however, its application may cause diverse side effects including oxidative stress. This work investigated the neuroprotective and anti-stress activity of Ulva lactuca extract (MEUL) against lithium induced neuronal toxicity in rats. Lithium (2 g/kg) was administered in diets with or without MEUL (250 mg/kg BW by gavage) for 90 days. Lithium induced oxidative stress lead to an elevation in lipid peroxidation and oxidation protein product levels, a reduced superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase activities, glutathione, and ascorbic acid concentrations in brain. …
