Prevalence Of Steroid Induced Hyperglycemia In Oncology Patients, Dawn Hornberger Jan 2022

Prevalence Of Steroid Induced Hyperglycemia In Oncology Patients, Dawn Hornberger

West Chester University Doctoral Projects

Glucocorticoids (steroids) are an integral part of chemotherapy treatment; however, steroids can cause hyperglycemia. There is no established protocol for the identification and treatment of steroid induced hyperglycemia in the literature. Literature does show steroid induced hyperglycemia is best identified by checking glucoses throughout the day following steroid administration. Furthermore, the best treatment for steroid induced hyperglycemia is basal/bolus insulin therapy. The prevalence of steroid induced hyperglycemia needs to be established to support the implementation of a steroid induced hyperglycemia protocol in oncology patients. A retrospective chart review of all patients 18 years and older admitted to Hematology and Hematopoietic …

Deficiencies In The Disclosures Of Privacy Policies And In User Choice, Scott Jordan, Siddharth Narasimhan, Jina Hong Jan 2022

Deficiencies In The Disclosures Of Privacy Policies And In User Choice, Scott Jordan, Siddharth Narasimhan, Jina Hong

Loyola Consumer Law Review

Development of a comprehensive legal privacy framework in the United States should be based on identification of the common deficiencies of privacy policies. We attempt to delineate deficiencies by critically analyzing the privacy policies of mobile apps, application suites, social networks, Internet Service Providers, and Internet-of- Things devices. Whereas many studies have examined readability of privacy policies, few have specifically identified the information that should be provided in privacy policies but is not.

Privacy legislation invariably starts a definition of personally identifiable information. We find that privacy policies' definitions of personally identifiable information are far too restrictive, excluding information that …

Misplaced Trust, Failure Of Contract, And The Need To Create Robust Options For Consumers, Anjanette H. Raymond, Inna Kouper Jan 2022

Misplaced Trust, Failure Of Contract, And The Need To Create Robust Options For Consumers, Anjanette H. Raymond, Inna Kouper

Loyola Consumer Law Review

Platform and application 'marketplaces' (app stores) serve an important function for the consumer. The 'marketplace' serves a single point of choice for applications that will be downloaded, and used, on either the apple or android cell phone. Over time, consumers have been reliant- almost dependent on these marketplaces. One can easily imagine, consumers trust the host, they trust the marketplace, they trust the ongoing updates and other technology 'fixes' when their applications begin to fail- one is undoubtedly aware of the loyalty that exists to these brands and marketplace hosts. Exercising full control, app stores engender extreme loyalty and high …

Agroecology Curriculum Proposal, Emily Kuhn Jan 2022

Agroecology Curriculum Proposal, Emily Kuhn

Pitzer Senior Theses

The purpose of this research is to establish the viability of an Agroecology major at Pitzer College. I begin by problematizing Industrial Agriculture and making a case for Pitzer College to become a higher education leader in the global paradigm shift towards socially and ecologically just food systems. The proposed curriculum compiles pre-existing classes, objectives expanded from the EA field group, and an internship component embedded at five local land-based learning partner sites. I conducted a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) analysis of the Environmental Analysis field group as a potential host for the agroecology track, including study abroad …

Haemosporidians & White-Throated Sparrows (Zonotrichia Albicollis): Parasite Diversity, Factors Influencing Infection, And Effects Of Infection On Fitness, Zoã© Delefortrie

All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Host-parasite interactions play a significant role in the comprehension of co-evolutionary mechanisms such as the host-parasite arms race. Those co-evolutionary mechanisms allow a better understanding of the parasite distribution, emergence of zoonotic diseases, and the impact on hosts populations. In this Ph.D.dissertation, I study the interaction between haemosporidian parasites ( Plasmodium, Haemoproteus , and Leucocytozoon ) and a polymorphic species, the white-throated sparrow ( Zonotrichia albicollis ). First, I examined the occurrence of haemosporidian parasites in a breeding population of white-throated sparrows in the Adirondacks, NY, and assessed their parasite diversity. Then, I evaluated the landscape and individual characteristics influencing …

Pfas Environmental Contamination In Central Maine, Megan H. Andersen Jan 2022

Pfas Environmental Contamination In Central Maine, Megan H. Andersen

Honors Theses

PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are toxic, persistent, and bioaccumulative chemicals that are used in a variety of consumer products and industrial applications. Paper mills across the state of Maine have used PFAS in their industrial paper making processes, and their wastes often flow for treatment into municipal sewage treatment facilities. PFAS contaminated municipal wastewater from the general use of PFAS consumer products are also processed by these plants. Liquid waste is condensed into solid waste septage and sludge, and in what was thought to be an environmentally friendly repurposing practice, municipal sludge and septage has been spread on plots …

Community Interventions To The Food Insecurity Crisis Inuit Currently Face In Nunangat, Alyssia R. Getschow Jan 2022

Community Interventions To The Food Insecurity Crisis Inuit Currently Face In Nunangat, Alyssia R. Getschow

Honors Theses

Inuit living in Nunangat, a northern territory in Canada, are facing unprecedented rates of food insecurity. The increasing impacts of anthropogenic climate change are rapidly changing the Arctic landscape in Nunangat, posing challenges to Inuit hunters who hunt and live completely self-sufficient off of the land. This lack of access to country foods and the impacts these conditions are having on Inuit communities are forcing Inuit to consider aid propositions from the Canadian government. Due to a long history of conflict with white settlers during the colonization of Canada, there is a feeling of distrust and cultural distaste between Canada …

Impacts Of Profamilia Program Spread On Contraceptive Use And Fertility Rates In Colombia During Its Introduction, Katherine C. Specht Jan 2022

Impacts Of Profamilia Program Spread On Contraceptive Use And Fertility Rates In Colombia During Its Introduction, Katherine C. Specht

Honors Theses

I examine the effect of the Profamilia program during its beginning years over the 1960s and 1970s as it spread across Colombia. I find that Profamilia effectively delays first birth, intercourse, and age at marriage, and reduces the probability of having had a teen birth. These outcomes were also linked to increased literacy rates, improved educational attainment, and an increase in employment. Birth spacing and contraceptive use increased. These findings support current research that improving access to family planning services is an effective method for decreasing women’s fertility and improving educational and employment opportunities for women. The implication that having …

Honors Theses

As guided by ethnographic fieldwork and the interdisciplinary discipline of Global Studies, this thesis works to trace food access inequalities in Lake County, Colorado and how they are felt and confronted both at the individual and communal level. Amidst the failures of global food systems and the ongoing impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, rural communities, such as the field site of Lake County, Colorado, face additional challenges in accessing food that is culturally relevant, craved, and truly wanted. This thesis traces the dominant food inequalities in Lake County. In the face of these inequalities, I centralize the community food initiatives …

"It’S Just Another Thing”: Perceptions Of Well Water Quality And Barriers In An Arsenic Hot Spot, Linzy Rosen

Honors Theses

Privately owned water is the primary source of drinking water for 43 million Americans. Although residential or private wells are susceptible to a variety of contaminants, the Safe Drinking Water Act of 1974 positions individuals as responsible for the testing, remediation, and management of this water. Despite the elevated presence of arsenic in Maine, which is linked to various cancers, cardiovascular disease, and neurological damage, little is known about how private well owners perceive the safety and quality of their own water.

This study takes a qualitative approach to understanding concerns and opinions by conducting semi - structured interviews with …
