Invisible Doesn't Mean Inactive: Perspectives And Recommendations Of An Arabic Speaking Community On Parental Involvement And Cultural Responsiveness, Aziz Elabida
Theses and Dissertations
An extensive body of research has established the positive impact that parental involvement has on student academic, social, and emotional performance and well-being. These benefits are, however, not enjoyed by all students due to a string of logistical, communicative, perceptual, and cultural obstacles. The purpose of this study is to investigate the phenomenon of parental involvement as perceived and practiced by Arabic speaking parents in American public schools. This research is guided by the six typologies of Epstein’s parental involvement model (1995, 2007, and 2012) and Khalifa’s four strands of culturally responsive school leadership (2016). Through a descriptive single case …

Tuition-Free College And Retention: A Quantitative Analysis Of The New York State Excelsior Scholarship Program, Maria P. Conzatti
Theses and Dissertations
Although the community college’s original intent was to fulfill a mission dedicated to offering a low-cost, high-quality education to its community, fulfilling its mission is has become more difficult based on ever-increasing financial stresses being placed upon it by various constituent groups. As such, a growing piece of the community college funding model is student tuition. In an attempt to offset the ever-increasing student financial burden, many states have initiated their own form of scholarship aid, such as the new Excelsior Scholarship Program now offered in New York State. The continued decrease in community college funding has motivated additional research …

Application Of Physiologically Based Pharmacokinetic (Pbpk) Modeling To Study The Impact Of Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass (Rygb) Surgery On The Bioavailability Of Oral Antibiotics, Suvarchala Kiranmai Avvari
Selected Full-Text Dissertations 2020-
Understanding the mechanisms that govern drug absorption and elimination is a critical component in pharmaceutical research and development, as the oral route remains the most common method of drug administration. The utilization of in silico physiologically based pharmacokinetic modeling and simulation (PBPK M&S) has enabled the extrapolation of modeling and simulation in special populations where concerns regarding alteration in overall drug exposure may arise, such as following gastrointestinal surgery. Roux-en-Y Gastric bypass (RYGB), or partial resection of the gastrointestinal tract, leads to multiple physiological alterations that affect drug absorption. The inability to generalize and predict changes in oral drug bioavailability …

Teaching Through A Polyvagal Lens: Using The Science Of Safety To Co-Regulate In The Classroom, Anna Isolde Dahlen
All Electronic Theses and Dissertations
According to Stephen Porges’ Polyvagal Theory, social responses to environments are mediated by the limbic system either by vagal input or vagal withdrawal (Mulkey & Du Plessis, 2019). The nervous system preconsciously perceives threats through a process termed neuroception. The Polyvagal Theory provides insight about how the nervous system continuously assesses risk and safety cues that influence behavioral and physiological states (Porges, 2015). Co-regulation provides the neural state that supports the establishment of trusting relationships. Humans are always looking for safety cues and by design are motivated to develop relationships to co- regulate. Incorporating the science of safety in educational …

Sewage released from lakeside development can introduce nutrients and micropollutants that can restructure aquatic ecosystems. Lake Baikal, the world’s most ancient, biodiverse, and voluminous freshwater lake, has been experiencing localized sewage pollution from lakeside settlements. Nearby increasing filamentous algal abundance suggests benthic communities are responding to localized pollution. We surveyed 40-km of Lake Baikal’s southwestern shoreline from 19 to 23 August 2015 for sewage indicators, including pharmaceuticals, personal care products, and microplastics, with colocated periphyton, macroinvertebrate, stable isotope, and fatty acid samplings. The data are structured in a tidy format (a tabular arrangement familiar to limnologists) to encourage reuse. Unique …
