The Impact Of Health Literacy, Culture And Psychological Factors On The Pap Testing Behaviors Of African Immigrant Women In The United States, Joycelyn Cudjoe
The Impact Of Health Literacy, Culture And Psychological Factors On The Pap Testing Behaviors Of African Immigrant Women In The United States, Joycelyn Cudjoe
Dissertations
African immigrant (AI) women have low Pap testing rates. Limited health literacy is a barrier to cancer screening among racial/ethnic minority populations. Sources and types of health information can shape health literacy. However, how health literacy, sources and types of health information along with cultural and psychosocial correlates impact the Pap testing behaviors of AI women remains unknown.
To examine how sources and types of health information impact health literacy and health information exchange, and in turn, how health literacy, culture and psychosocial (cancer knowledge, self-efficacy, decisional balance, cultural beliefs) factors influence the Pap testing behaviors of AI women.

Isolated Right Superior Vena Cava Drained To Left Atrium In A Child With Waardenburg Syndrome And Neurofibromatosis Type I, Omer A. Algonaid, Yahya H. Almashham, Abdulrahman S. Almoukirish
Journal of the Saudi Heart Association
Isolated right superior vena cava (SVC) draining to the left atrium (RSVC-LA) is an extremely rare cyanotic congenital heart disease (CHD). Such lesion is easily missed with improper scanning or inattentive interpretation of echocardiography. This can result in potential systemic severe complications. We report a child with RSVC-LA who has two significant non-cardiac co-morbidities, including Waardenburg syndrome and n neurofibromatosis type I (NF1). This patient was referred to cardiology assessment due to unexplained low saturation and was diagnosed as RSVC-LA; however, fortunately not yet showing complications of systemic thromboembolic phenomenon (STEP).
Macronutrients And Water – Do They Matter In The Context Of Cognitive Performance In Athletes?, Ewa Karpecka, Barbara Fraczek
Macronutrients And Water – Do They Matter In The Context Of Cognitive Performance In Athletes?, Ewa Karpecka, Barbara Fraczek
Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity
Proper nutrition is a key factor in physical performance, but there are also indications of an impact of dietary components on the brain function. Therefore, the aim of the study was to assess the impact of macronutrients and water on cognitive performance. Assumptions of the Mediterranean diet correlate with better global cognition, episodic memory, lower risk of cognitive impairment and neurodegenerative diseases. In turn, a high-fat and high-sugar diet shows the opposite effect. Omega-3 fatty acids could be used as a preventive tool for cognitive decline, but there is still insufficient evidence if supplementation improves cognitive functions. The proper intake …

Collaborative Initiative To Improve Diii Student-Athlete Well-Being, Bonni C. Hodges Ph.D
Journal of Athlete Development and Experience
The professional literature contains little focused specifically on NCAA DIII. NCAA Goals data provide an overview of common characteristics and challenges of DIII student-athletes. However, the large number and variety of DIII member institutions merit DIII athletic programs assessing the needs and well-being challenges of its particular student-athletes and to create and tailor programs and interventions to support student-athlete well-being. A needs assessment of student-athlete well-being issues was carried out at an institution with a large DIII program. Part one, reported here, used focus groups of student-athletes, coaches, athletic trainers, and athletics administrators. Results suggested well-being challenges at this institution …

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity
Background: Obesity affects health parameters that are related to physical activity. The present study examined the relationship between weight and three such parameters in young boys and girls, bone properties, muscle strength, and motor coordination. Material and methods: The study consisted of second- and third-grade 286 students – 144 boys and 142 girls participants. Bone properties were measured at the distal radius and tibia shaft by Speed of Sound technology. Tests were conducted to measure muscle strength and motor coordination. Results: Obese boys were characterized by lower bone properties (p < .01) in the tibia bone than normal-weight boys. They were significantly (p < .05) weaker than normal-weight boys on muscle strength tests. Obese boys scored significantly (p < .05) lower on coordination tests than the normal weight boys. Underweight girls maintained higher bone properties than did the girls in all other BMI categories. Normal-weight girls scored significantly (p < .05) higher than obese girls on muscle strength tests. Obese girls scored significantly (p < .05) lower than normal-weight girls on motor coordination tests. Conclusions: The findings emphasize the need to identify obese children and refer them to special weight loss and exercise programs.

Sensing Tomato’S Pathogen Using Visible/Near Infrared (Vis/Nir) Spectroscopy And Multivariate Data Analysis (Mvda), Nawaf Abukhalaf
Palestine Technical University Research Journal
Quality of agricultural products is a very important issue for consumers as well as for farmers in relation to price, health and flavour. One of the factors that determine the quality is the absence of pathogens that can cause diseases for products and also for consumers. An advanced method to sense pathogens and their antagonists is the use of Visible/Near Infrared (VIS/NIR) spectroscopy. In this paper, the VIS/NIR spectroscopy, with the help of two techniques of multivariate data analysis (MVDA); namely principal component analysis (PCA) and support vector machine (SVM)-classification; showed very reliable results for sensing two artificially inoculated fungi …

One in 12 children will have a parent incarcerated at some point in their lifetime, with a staggering rate of one in four for African American children (Wildeman et al., 2018). Though the incarcerated populations have been in decline across the United States in the past decade (Carson, 2020), its impact still dwarfs that of most other countries (Coyle et al., 2016). The long-term residual consequences of the country’s imprisonment binge are likely to burden later generations through a myriad of social and economic disadvantages that extend through the children of today’s prisoners. Consequences may manifest in terms of social …
