Alteration Of The Viral Immune Response In The Lung Of Juvenile Rats By Cannabidiol, Kylee J. Burroughs
Theses and Dissertations
Cannabidiol (CBD) has unverified use in the treatment of ADHD but parents are giving CBD to their children to treat hyperactivity and restlessness. CBD has suppressive effects on immune function therapeutically but the effect of pre-exposure to CBD on the response to an immune challenge is unknown. To investigate this, male and female juvenile rats were treated orally with either corn oil or 20 mg/kg or 60 mg/kg CBD daily for 5 days followed 24 hours later by intranasal challenge with a viral mimic, Resiquimod (R848). After 6 hours, lungs were collected for the analysis of gene expression of select …

Establishing The Relationship Between Broiler Beak Size, Starter Feed Particle Size Selection And Performance, Maria Jose Alvarenga Ramirez
Establishing The Relationship Between Broiler Beak Size, Starter Feed Particle Size Selection And Performance, Maria Jose Alvarenga Ramirez
Theses and Dissertations
Starter feed particle size (FPS) is typically small (~1200 µm) due to bird beak capacity (BC). Recent research has found that chicks can consume a larger FPS than previously thought; however, preferred FPS and its relationship with BC has not been established. Experiment 1 was conducted to determine the effect of breeder flock age (BFA) and feeding strategy (FS) on 0-14 d performance, BC and FPS preference. These data found that BC was dependent upon BFA and FPS consumed was dependent upon FS. Also, chicks could consume increased FPS without impacting starter performance; thus Experiment 2 was conducted to determine …

The Effects Of Poor Maternal Nutrition In Ewes On The Growth And Development Of Offspring, Zoey Weisman
The Effects Of Poor Maternal Nutrition In Ewes On The Growth And Development Of Offspring, Zoey Weisman
Honors Scholar Theses
Maternal nutrition is the diet that a mother intakes from before pregnancy through the end of lactation (Martin, 2018). Pregnant ruminants that are raised in pastures are frequently subject to undernutrition due to changes in the quantity and quality of available forage, which results in detrimental effects on the development of muscle and adipose tissues of offspring that can persist into adulthood (Hoffman, 2014). The quality of animal feed varies due to weather changes and climate fluctuations. Sheep usually gestate during the winter, as they are short-day breeders, and during this time, the forage consumed is limited and usually of …
