The popularity of bottled drinking water stems from its convenience and purity, driving its rapid growth, but concerns about safety and quality persist. Physicochemical and microbiological parameters of bottled drinking in Dodoma City were evaluated from September to December 2023. Additionally, key informant interviews and questionnaire surveys were conducted with government regulators, producers, and consumers on regulatory frameworks, production processes, and consumer perceptions. Overall, all brands tested were suitable for drinking and met World Health Organization and Tanzania Bureau of Standards guidelines. The total dissolved solids (F = 0.86, p < 0.05), calcium (F = 5.26, p < 0.05) and chloride (F = 0.32, p < 0.05) were significantly different, while other parameters were not (p > 0.05) between measured and labelled values. The total viable and …

Exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months and continued breastfeeding with complementary foods up to 2 years are emphasized by the World Health Organization. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, maternal concerns about virus transmission through breastfeeding have surfaced. Despite these concerns, breastfeeding remains the primary recommendation due to its manifold health benefits. This research, conducted in Tegal City's Margadana sub-district, investigates factors influencing exclusive breastfeeding success among mothers recovered from COVID-19. Using an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach, the study explores the link between COVID-19 symptoms in infants and exclusive breastfeeding success, revealing a significant correlation (p-value=0.042). Conversely, breast …

Brazil is under unique pressure to adopt sustainable agricultural practices due to its intricate biodiversity and globally dominant agricultural sector. Increasing soil degradation, agricultural land expansion, and rising levels of atmospheric carbon are nationwide concerns that require multifaceted solutions. Integrated agricultural systems, which rehabilitate soils through crop, forage, and livestock rotation as well as biochar—a carbon-rich soil amendment—can address such concerns. These sustainable farming practices improve carbon sequestration and soil fertility; however, uptake remains minimal due to environmental, economic, and policy barriers. Accordingly, this paper proposes a comprehensive model of integrated systems and biochar, in which the benefits of one …

Inhibitory control (IC) is a component of executive function that has been shown to be important for tasks which require self-regulation such as future-planning, decision-making, and prosocial interpersonal interactions. Some Vygotskian researchers have proposed that language ability in early life allows for improved IC and subsequent self-regulation via the internalization of rule systems. While some studies have demonstrated evidence for this internalization, no studies to date have examined impacts of language on inhibitory control performance amongst individuals from financially under resourced backgrounds. The current study aimed to determine whether and/or how childhood financial deprivation altered performance on IC tasks across …

Anti-angiogenic therapy is an established method for the treatment of several cancers and vascular-related diseases. Most of the agents employed target the vascular endothelial growth factor A, the major cytokine stimulating angiogenesis. However, the efficacy of these treatments is limited by the onset of drug resistance. Therefore, it is of fundamental importance to better understand the mechanisms that regulate angiogenesis and the microenvironmental cues that play significant role and influence patient treatment and outcome. In this context, here we review the importance of the three basement membrane heparan sulfate proteoglycans (HSPGs), namely perlecan, agrin and collagen XVIII. These HSPGs are …
