Self-Care Professional Development On Preschool Teachers’ Mindful Self-Care And Burnout: A Quantitative Research Study, Tiffany Gibby
Self-Care Professional Development On Preschool Teachers’ Mindful Self-Care And Burnout: A Quantitative Research Study, Tiffany Gibby
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this quantitative, experimental, pretest-posttest control-group design study with random assignment is to determine if self-care training changes mindful self-care and burnout scores of preschool teachers. The study fills the gap in the literature on whether an ongoing professional development approach to self-care is effective. The issue is more research is needed to determine if there is a difference in self-care activity and burnout scores between preschool teachers who receive self-care training and those who do not receive self-care training, when controlling for pre-test scores. The sample was 125 full-time, preschool teachers working in childcare centers drawn from …
Unpacking Barriers And Enablers To Quality Early Childhood Education And Care In Lebanon: A Multi-Level Perspective, Rana Bassaj, Caroline Floccia
Unpacking Barriers And Enablers To Quality Early Childhood Education And Care In Lebanon: A Multi-Level Perspective, Rana Bassaj, Caroline Floccia
School of Psychology
This article investigates the barriers and enablers to quality early childhood education and care (ECEC) in Lebanon’s complex and multilingual context. In this qualitative study, 56 stakeholders—ministry representatives, NGOs, educators, parents, and healthcare professionals—were interviewed. The study reveals a fragmented governance structure and inequitable funding that impact the quality and equitable access to ECEC provision. Despite the value placed on ECEC and OL, systemic weaknesses, including inadequate staff compensation and donor-driven priorities, constrain progress. Findings also highlight grassroots resilience, with committed educators and NGOs adapting to meet local needs. Using Kagan’s system-level framework and Torii et al.’s (2017) quality domains …
Beyond Stabilization: Biological Healing, Structural Exclusion, And The Recovery Gap After Border-Fall Trauma At The U.S.-Mexico Border, Julia Robinson
Beyond Stabilization: Biological Healing, Structural Exclusion, And The Recovery Gap After Border-Fall Trauma At The U.S.-Mexico Border, Julia Robinson
Undergraduate Honors Theses
This honors thesis examines the biochemical, ethical, and public health consequences of insufficient post-operative follow-up care for undocumented immigrants injured in border falls. Discussing pathways of inflammation resolution, wound healing, and bone remodeling, this thesis argues that recovery depends on tightly regulated molecular and cellular processes that are highly vulnerable to disruption without continued monitoring and rehabilitation (Loi et al., 2016; Maruyama et al., 2020). When follow-up care is absent, these processes can be predicted to derail, leading to infection, impaired healing, and permanent disability (Chung & Sohn, 2025; Howard et al., 2020; Kruidenier et al., 2018). Framed through principles …

Hantaviruses are zoonotic agents that play a significant role in global public health, primarily due to their ability to cause two highly severe clinical syndromes: Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome (HFRS), which is predominant in Eurasia, and Hantavirus Cardiopulmonary Syndrome (HCPS/HPS), which is primarily found in the Americas. Although long recognized, the complex interactions between the virus, its rodent reservoir, and environmental factors make hantaviruses still a relevant epidemiological threat today. This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of their virological characteristics, epidemiological patterns, pathogenesis mechanisms, risk factors, diagnostic methods, therapeutic options, prevention strategies, and the latest developments in …

Patients with short bowel syndrome (SBS) experience nutrient malabsorption. The clinical manifestations of malabsorption are heterogeneous due to the variety of congenital and acquired anatomic abnormalities that result in SBS. Because of various gastrointestinal pathophysiologic alterations, fat malabsorption is an important nutritional factor to consider. The Intestinal Rehabilitation Program at Children’s Mercy has been providing a comprehensive approach to caring for children with SBS, and has incorporated RELiZORB (Alcresta Therapeutics, Inc.) immobilized lipase cartridge (ILC) into their treatment armamentarium. ILC is a single-use digestive enzyme cartridge that connects in-line with enteral feeding circuits to hydrolyze triglycerides in enteral formulas. Although …

Background: Anemia is a common disorder of prematurity secondary to limited blood volume, excessive blood draws, inadequate nutrition, poor iron reserves, and insufficient endogenous erythropoietin. While many NICUs use recombinant erythropoietin (rEpo) to treat anemia of prematurity, the absence of universal guidelines has
led to variability in dosing and schedules. Here we present our experience on the use of rEpo in a level 3 NICU. Our unit protocol uses 400 IU/kg three times a week for a total of 9 doses if hematocrit < 30%.
Objectives/Goal: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the response to rEpo in infants with anemia …

Background: Enteral feeding tubes are often required to support growth and nutrition in children with pediatric feeding disorder. When children are medically ready, feeding tube weaning can improve patient and family satisfaction, reduce health care costs, and enhance mealtime experiences. Many children receive traditional formulas, other families prefer diets made from foods that resemble a typical oral diet. Blended tube feeding provides this option and may improve feeding tolerance and gastrointestinal symptoms which can support improved oral intake and successful tube weaning.
Objectives/Goal: This study aimed to compare whether children receiving blended diets achieved a successful tube wean faster than …

Managing Maternal Anemia In Pregnancy: The Role Of Iron-Rich Foods And Supplementation, Carli Dibler
Managing Maternal Anemia In Pregnancy: The Role Of Iron-Rich Foods And Supplementation, Carli Dibler
InnovateHER Meeting 2026
Anemia during pregnancy is a large public health concern, which often leads to independent risk factors for fetal and maternal outcomes including postpartum hemorrhaging, cesarean sections, blood transfusions during and after the labor process, hysterectomies, preterm birth, and infectious diseases. Six level I-III studies were analyzed using the John Hopkins nursing evidence-based practice model. Findings showed that by using a combined approach of dietary intake and supplementation overall leads to better fetal and maternal outcomes compared to supplementation alone.
Caffeine Perceptions And Reality In High School Gymnasts, Gabrielle Steinkopf
Caffeine Perceptions And Reality In High School Gymnasts, Gabrielle Steinkopf
InnovateHER Meeting 2026
From years of observation as a high school gymnast, there is a noted “caffeine culture” among gymnasts at my high school. Since gymnastics is a precision sport with not inconsiderable danger, I wondered what impact caffeine ingestion had on athletes. Athletes were asked to give up caffeine during a series of regular season meets, with reflection questions immediately after each meet to assess the impact caffeine might have had on performance vs the gymnasts’ perception of the effects
Empowering Women: Understanding Neurological Changes In The Aging Brain, Joy Mckenzie
Empowering Women: Understanding Neurological Changes In The Aging Brain, Joy Mckenzie
InnovateHER Meeting 2026
Women tend to have more neurological changes than men as they age starting in their mid-30s (Mosconi, 2024). While aging is a natural process, the neurological changes can impact a woman’s personal and professional quality of life (Faubion et al., 2023; Gravini, 2023). For years, women’s neurological symptoms have been ignored by being told that their experiences are normal and just a part of life (Haver, 2025). That narrative is starting to shift with the increased awareness of changes specific to women. There are resources to assess cognitive changes such as memory, processing speed, and word finding and strategies to …
Baseline Moderators Of A Transdiagnostic Adolescent Sleep And Circadian Health Intervention's Effectiveness At Improving Circadian Sleep Health: A Pilot Investigation, Jamon M. Jex
Theses and Dissertations
The current study examined whether baseline demographic and clinical characteristics moderate the effectiveness of the Transdiagnostic Sleep and Circadian (TSC) intervention in improving adolescent circadian sleep health. Using an integrative data analysis approach, data from three independent adolescent samples (N = 134; ages 10-18) were pooled to evaluate changes across multidimensional sleep outcomes defined by the RU-SATED model of sleep, including regularity, satisfaction, alertness, timing, efficiency, and duration. Linear mixed-effects models were used to assess pre-to-post intervention changes and test moderation by age, sex, family income, and clinical status. Results indicated significant improvements in sleep satisfaction following TSC, with greater …

Reading Indian Newspaper Reports To Uncover Cinematic Misrepresentations Of Rape In Mom (2017) And Guilty (2020), Samikhya Dash, Soumya Jose
Journal of International Women's Studies
Hindi cinema has witnessed a transformation in the portrayal of rape narratives subsequent to India’s Nirbhaya rape case in 2012 and the global #MeToo movement in 2017. The rape narratives released after the #MeToo movement are characterised by a departure from the stereotypical depiction of rape victims as forlorn and vulnerable figures; instead, they are depicted as assertive and empowered survivors that challenge entrenched power dynamics. Hindi films such as Mom (2017) and Guilty (2020) exemplify this paradigm shift by featuring women characters who defy gender stereotypes and resist patriarchal constraints, experience rape trauma syndrome and post-traumatic growth, and embody …
Negotiating Desires For Capital Through Culinary Expression In Balli Kaur Jaswal’S Sugarbread, Ira Gore, Aruni Mahapatra
Negotiating Desires For Capital Through Culinary Expression In Balli Kaur Jaswal’S Sugarbread, Ira Gore, Aruni Mahapatra
Journal of International Women's Studies
Balli Kaur Jaswal’s Sugarbread (2016) illustrates how race and class are negotiated through culinary practices in a lower-middle-class Sikh family living in Singapore. Through acts of shopping for groceries, cooking local Singaporean cuisine, and rejecting the communal temple food associated with shame and social discrimination, the novel highlights the family’s aspirations of social mobility shaped by the character Jini’s childhood experiences of food and economic scarcity. While the characters in the novel have access to food, their culinary practices are marked by memories of charity and discomfort as a South Asian diasporic family negotiating racialized hierarchies and gendered vulnerability in …

Death Wish: A Comprehensive Analysis Of Physician Assisted Suicide, Janna George
Death Wish: A Comprehensive Analysis Of Physician Assisted Suicide, Janna George
DePaul Journal of Health Care Law
Physician-assisted suicide is an extremely complex and controversial legal issue, deeply rooted in morality, legality, and ethics. Countries around the world are split as to how to approach this concept, with some permitting physician-assisted suicide under particular circumstances, and others strictly prohibiting it. [1] This division is evidence of the subject’s complex underpinnings. According to the United States Declaration of Independence, all Americans are deserving of certain unalienable rights, “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.”[2] But what about the right to die?
There are a number of reasons as to why physician assisted suicide is complicated, including …

Turkish Journal of Zoology
Understanding species-specific habitat preferences provides essential ecological information about interactions among habitat components. In South Korea, roe deer (Capreolus pygargus) and water deer (Hydropotes inermis argyropus) are the dominant large herbivorous mammals of the family Cervidae. The increasing populations of these species have led to ecological and economic challenges. Therefore, we investigated the effects of spatial scale characteristics on the habitat preferences of roe deer and water deer. From June to August each year between 2021 and 2023, we calculated the relative abundance index (RAI) using camera-trap data and analyzed patch characteristics in the study area using remote sensing techniques, …

Turkish Journal of Zoology
Lissachatina fulica mucin can be used as a nutraceutical agent depending on the quality of their feed. Polystyrene (PS) waste harms soil and plants consumed by snails, potentially affecting the quality of mucin production. This study investigated the impact of PS on growth and mucus-producing cell characteristics as well as the network pharmacology of mucin protein components. Fifty 5–6 cm L. fulica snails (20–24 g) were fed organic waste (OW) and organic waste with PS (OWPS). After 28 days of ad libitum access to food, the snails’ mucus, meat, and shells were collected and weighed. Tissue samples from the anterior …
Global Health Financing Of Diagonal Interventions: Building Resilient And Sustainable Health Systems In Sub-Saharan Africa, Lucy Kim
Master in Public Policy Theses
Background: Global health financing has historically prioritized disease-specific “vertical” programs over broader “horizontal” strengthening of general health systems. Vertical programs in HIV have led to unprecedented reductions in mortality worldwide, but HIV remains a significant public health threat in sub-Saharan Africa, where vertical strategies have long been criticized for creating fragmented health systems. In response, global health strategies have shifted towards combining vertical investments with broader horizontal activities, commonly referred to as “diagonal” programming. While evidence suggests that diagonal programming has the potential to create more resilient and sustainable health systems, evaluating its value for money is challenging due to …

Vitamin D Deficiency And Risk Of Cognitive Decline And Dementia: Implications And Prevention Strategies, Auda Fares
Advances in Clinical Medical Research and Healthcare Delivery
Emerging evidence suggests a link between vitamin D deficiency and an increased risk of cognitive impairment and dementia, including Alzheimer's disease (AD). This paper reviews the epidemiological evidence, explores potential mechanisms underlying this association, and discusses implications for prevention strategies. Current supplementation strategies may not be fully effective due to individual variability. Personalized interventions based on genetic factors and routine vitamin D status testing in older adults are proposed as future directions for optimizing the impact of vitamin D supplementation in dementia prevention.
