Chromium (Cr) is an extremely toxic metal for all living organisms and its concentration in the environment is constantly increasing due to human activities. Plants quickly absorb the Cr subsequently, it enters the human food chain and poses serious health issues. Chromium toxicity causes a serious reduction in plant growth by inducing oxidative damage and disturbing protein synthesis, enzyme activity, and nutrient uptake. Plants use diverse mechanisms to mitigate the Cr toxicity however, they are inadequate against higher concentrations of Cr. Thus is essential to diminish Cr toxicity and increase the ability of plants to tolerate Cr stress. Nano-particles (NPs) …

Photosynthesis is critically dependent on both adequate light and nitrogen availability. In controlled agricultural environmentswith limited natural light, cucumber faces substantial challenges, including reduced photosynthetic efficiency and biomass accumulation.Nitrogen (N) is a vital component for the synthesis of various macromolecules, metabolites, and signaling molecules in plants. This studyassessed the impact of different nitrate levels (LL-N, LL-1/2N, and LL-2N) on the physiological, biochemical, and metabolic responsesof cucumber under low light conditions (80–100 μmol m–2 s–1 photosynthetic photon flux density) in comparison to standard light(400–500 μmol m–2 s–1 photosynthetic photon flux density) and unchanged nitrate. We observed that increasing nitrate levels to …

Controlled pollination, involving the transfer of pollen from Tagnanan Tall palm (male parent) to the Malayan Yellow or Red dwarf (female parent) is essential for producing MATAG coconut hybrids. However, the pollen from Tagnanan Tall (TAGT), usedin hybridization, has been reported to have a germination percentage of less than 40%. This is further complicated by Tagnanan Tall varieties varying in color, TAGT Orange, TAGT Gold, and TAGT Green. TAGT Orange is claimed to have lower pollen viability than TAGT Gold and Green. Hence, a study was conducted to compare inflorescence characteristics, pollen yield, size, viability, and vigor of three Tagnanan …

Background and Objectives
Milling is one of the most important postharvest processes in rice production. Traditionally, the McGill #2 mill has been used for lab milling to assess rice milling performance as per the recommendation of the Federal Grain Inspection Service (FGIS). However, as the FGIS is phasing out the use of the McGill #2 mill, there is a need to recalibrate milling assessments for standardized milling evaluation across various labs. Thus, the objective of this study was to assess the milling performance of three laboratory mills (McGill #2, Satake, and Zaccaria mills) on the head rice yield (HRY), milled …

Dante’S Pilgrimage: Transformation As A ‘Web Of Belief’, Stephen F. Haller
Dante’S Pilgrimage: Transformation As A ‘Web Of Belief’, Stephen F. Haller
International Journal of Religious Tourism and Pilgrimage
In Dante’s allegorical pilgrimage to hell and back, he travels through three stages of transformation that are illustrated in his paradigmatic example of identity transformation; namely, Dante’s Divine Comedy. As a pilgrim, he starts out in a state of ‘unease’ (or ‘sin’). Next, there is a ‘solution’ to his psychological disarray, which results in the religious experience of joy. William James has persuasively argued that these are the common features of all religious experiences (1901). Dante is in a stage of his life when he can no longer be reached by argument. This state of mind is described, by the …

Following COVID-19, teaching was abruptly shifted from a live to a virtual format, posing a challenge to both students and faculty. There is a need to employ alternatives, emphasizing targeting the factors that suit Generation Z students for effective learning while maintaining social distancing. Understanding students' perceptions about the educational environment plays a vital role in planning and implementing teaching strategies for the future. Data were collected through focus group discussions with undergraduate students across seven faculties. A thematic analysis of the responses reveals that participants mostly reported negative experiences with online learning arising from factors such as …

Although Belize has plenty of nutritious food in-country, the exportation of that food to generate income contributed to a distribution issue of that nutritious food. More impoverished areas of Belize do not have access to nutritious food because of the lack of affordability and high export rates. Diets with a lack of food, or lack of balanced, nutritious food can negatively impact growth and cognitive development, especially in children. Poultry is one of the only products in Belize not able to be exported. Implementing poultry into Belizean diets would affordably alleviate food insecurity …
