Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice

Purpose: Rural communities experience allied health workforce shortages that detrimentally impact health care access and outcomes. Allied health student exposure to rural practice is a key strategy to influence rural practice uptake in Australia. Yet, these placements can be short in duration and undertaken across multiple speciality areas contributing to fragmented learning, challenges in translating theory to practice in rural contexts, and host site fatigue. We aimed to review placement standards and key rural and metropolitan university stakeholder perspectives of placements to inform the co-design of a rural longitudinal placement to address the challenges described. Method: This qualitative study was …

Oxidative stress occurs when the production of reactive oxygen species exceeds the antioxidant defense capacity of living organisms. Oxidative stress is commonly assessed using serum samples; however, blood sampling in pigs is often avoided on commercial farms because of disease transmission concerns and animal welfare considerations. This study aimed to evaluate the correlation between oxidative stress markers in serum and colostrum samples and to determine their association with production performance in lactating sows. A total of 34 Landrace × Large White sows from a commercial farrow-to-finish farm were included in the study. Blood and colostrum samples were collected immediately after …

Building Evidence For Active Work Through A Bibliometric Review Of Employee Physical Activity And Job Performance, Tamara Stanković, Alenka Slavec Gomezel

Economic and Business Review

Physical activity (PA) is widely recognized as beneficial for employee health and well-being, yet research linking employee PA to job performance remains fragmented across disciplines, outcome conceptualizations, and theoretical perspectives. Although prior systematic reviews and meta-analyses report generally positive effects of workplace PA on health-, absenteeism-, and productivity-related outcomes, they provide limited insight into how this research field is intellectually structured or how it has evolved over time. To address this gap, we conduct a comprehensive bibliometric review of the employee PA–job performance literature. Using performance analysis alongside co-citation, co-occurrence, and bibliographic coupling techniques and interpreting results through the invisible …

Maaen Journal for Medical Sciences

Urtica dioica, commonly referred to as stinging nettle, is a medicinal plant rich in therapeutic bioactives. This study examined how different solvents—petroleum ether, chloroform, ethanol, and deionized water—with varying polarities influence the extraction and identification of phytochemicals from Urtica dioica using high-performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The results of high-performance liquid chromatography analysis based on retention time comparison with reference standards revealed that petroleum ether and chloroform extracts contained sterols, specifically Stigmasterol and β-Sitosterol. In contrast, ethanol and deionized water extracts exhibited six distinct peaks, comprising four phenolic acids (p-Coumaric acid, Caffeic acid, Ferulic acid, …

Evaluating Behavioral Intervention Strategies For Reducing Hyperactivity In Children Diagnosed With Autism Spectrum Disorder And Comorbid Adhd, Murtadha M. Abd Noor, Dunya Habeeb Shnain Jun 2026

Evaluating Behavioral Intervention Strategies For Reducing Hyperactivity In Children Diagnosed With Autism Spectrum Disorder And Comorbid Adhd, Murtadha M. Abd Noor, Dunya Habeeb Shnain

Maaen Journal for Medical Sciences

One of the most difficult and complex symptoms in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and comorbid attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is hyperactivity. This has a substantial negative impact on daily functioning, learning, and responsiveness to therapy interventions, as well as on intervention programs that aim to manage behavior in schools and clinical settings, thereby restricting children's engagement in these programs as management behaviors become more emphasized. Given marked heterogeneity in clinical presentations and a lack of consensus on the most effective behavioral strategies, there remains an imperative to systematically evaluate targeted, specific strategies for reducing hyperactivity in this …

Reimagining The Possible: What True Medical-Dental Integration Would Actually Require, Brett Kessler Jun 2026

Reimagining The Possible: What True Medical-Dental Integration Would Actually Require, Brett Kessler

Metro Denver Dental Society Articulator Magazine

This article explores the structural, financial and educational barriers preventing true medical-dental integration despite the overwhelming evidence linking oral health to systemic disease. Drawing from clinical experience and current research, Dr. Brett Kessler argues that dentistry must move beyond procedure-based care toward a collaborative, outcomes-driven healthcare model. The article examines reimbursement reform, interoperability between medical and dental records, expanded preventive screening and integrated care delivery systems. It also challenges the dental profession to embrace a broader role in whole-body health and chronic disease prevention.

This article highlights how dental professionals can expand their role in whole-body wellness and early detection.

Portable Food Pasteurization Using Pulsed Electric Fields (Pef), Thomas E. Mcmillan Iii Jun 2026

Portable Food Pasteurization Using Pulsed Electric Fields (Pef), Thomas E. Mcmillan Iii

Electrical Engineering

Foodborne illnesses remain a significant public health concern, motivating continued development of alternative food pasteurization technologies. Pulsed electric field (PEF) treatment is a non-thermal pasteurization method that inactivates microorganisms through electroporation while minimizing thermal degradation of food products. The long-term objective of this project was development of a portable PEF food pasteurization system.

An iterative design approach was used to investigate generation of the high-voltage pulses required for PEF treatment. Multiple pulse forming network topologies were evaluated through simulation, leading to selection of a solid-state Marx generator architecture. A low-voltage five-stage prototype was designed, constructed, and tested to validate the …

"Health" In Hems Means Complete Well-Being, Claudia E. Tordini, Richard S. Franklin Jun 2026

"Health" In Hems Means Complete Well-Being, Claudia E. Tordini, Richard S. Franklin

ACTEC Law Journal

This article focuses on the definition of “health” as used in the ascertainable standard exception of Internal Revenue Code § 2041(b)(1)(A), most frequently articulated in trusts as “health, education, maintenance and support” (HEMS). It is clear that a discretionary power to distribute for one’s own health is permitted without causing a taxable general power of appointment, but there is a dearth of authority indicating the meaning of health for this purpose. This article provides the research and foundation for understanding that health as used in HEMS is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the …

The Effects Of Maceration And Enzymes On The Chemical Characteristics Of Hard Apple Cider, Manou De Pelsmaeker

Master's Theses

The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of maceration and pectinase enzymes on the base chemical, polyphenolic, and volatile characteristics of cider. The apples (Fuji) were milled and macerated for 0, 4, 12, 24, or 36 hours, both with and without an enzymatic pectinase addition. While base chemical characteristics such as sugar content and ABV were unaffected, the acidity of cider was influenced maceration and enzymes. Extended maceration time resulted in lower concentrations of malic acid, and enzymes resulted in a lower pH compared to the control. Polyphenols were extracted during maceration time, resulting in higher concentrations …

Good Intentions, Mixed Messages: Considering Mental Health In Attorney Discipline, Sarah J. Schendel

Suffolk University Law School Faculty Works

The legal profession urges struggling lawyers to seek help—but what happens when those same lawyers become the subject of discipline? As mental health challenges among lawyers become more widely acknowledged and understood, the disciplinary systems that govern the profession remain uneven and opaque in their treatment of mental health as a mitigating factor. This Article presents the first comprehensive review of over a decade of disciplinary decisions and admonitions in Massachusetts, focusing on how mental health is considered during sanctioning and whether current standards meaningfully reflect the profession’s stated commitments to fairness, public protection, and attorney well-being.
