Colleges of health, human sciences, and education are often administratively organized to include a diverse array of human sciences departments that share roots in social justice and a commitment to advancing equity and inclusion. Despite espoused commitments to equity and inclusion, they frequently struggle to achieve the changes necessary for advancing equity, and inclusion principles across policies, practices, procedures, and units. We implemented and evaluated a 7-day, total immersion, 56-h, educational program entitled the “Social Justice Institute” (SJI) for two cohorts of faculty, staff, and administrators to develop self-efficacy to intervene in systemic oppression in their academic units. SJI delivered …

Study Group Environments And Their Connection To Study Plans And Strategies, Tatyanna Caputo
Harriet L Wilkes Honors College Theses 2020 - Present
Students have a mental image of how they intend to study but may fail to anticipate possible distractions or unexpected obstacles. A potential solution is for students to collaborate in study groups. If students fear disappointing their fellow peers, they may be more likely to fulfill their intended plans. In addition, studying in groups may encourage the use of active study strategies. In this study, college students reported their upcoming study plans, which were then analyzed to see if students planned to work with others and use stronger study strategies. We correlated their plans with the students’ later self-reports on …

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Purpose/Background
Infants admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) are critically ill and at risk of increased infections, developmental delays, and higher readmission rates after discharging due to complex health needs when compared to healthy term newborns. Nutrition has been widely recognized as an important predictor of readmission and developmental delay. However, current practice often does not provide any screening for food insecurity (FI) in NICU families, which assumes security and displays a gap in care surrounding discharge planning. This quality improvement project implements the use of an FI screening tool for NICU families to help practitioners identify FI …

Carbon dioxide is the main greenhouse gas contributing to global warming risk. Forest biomass is crucial for the sequestration of atmospheric carbon dioxide; however, the rate of decline in worldwide forest biomass is concerning and can be attributed to anthropogenic activities. Reforestation is essential in this situation to decrease the amount of C O2 in the atmosphere. Efforts at reforestation can be evaluated according to the financial investment required for their execution. This work presents a nonlinear mathematical model that examines the impact of reforestation and the implementation of reforestation initiatives on regulating atmospheric CO2 levels. The critical …
Whither Leviathan? The Seepage Of Constitutional Law Into Public-Private Arbitration In The United States, Peter B. Rutledge
Whither Leviathan? The Seepage Of Constitutional Law Into Public-Private Arbitration In The United States, Peter B. Rutledge
Scholarly Works
The chapter analyses how constitutional law influences private-public arbitration in the United States. Its central thesis is that constitutional law exerts a powerful indirect influence on arbitration law. While the US Constitution does not directly regulate arbitration, its underlying norms—such as separation of powers, federalism, and individual rights—impact arbitration law indirectly. The chapter explores the ways in which these constitutional principles influence public-private arbitration through statutory interpretation, treaty design, and private protocols reflecting constitutional norms. This pattern of influence manifests itself in public arbitration (i.e. arbitration involving states or state-owned entities) just as it does in private arbitration. Highlighting how …
