Does Engaging Commercial Customers In A Shared Social Mission Improve Impact Sourcing Service Provider (Issp) Success? A Critically Appraised Topic, Michael F. Corbett Oct 2023

Does Engaging Commercial Customers In A Shared Social Mission Improve Impact Sourcing Service Provider (Issp) Success? A Critically Appraised Topic, Michael F. Corbett

Engaged Management ReView

This topic paper examines whether engaging commercial customers through a shared social mission improves the success of social enterprises. It is based on an examination of a subset of the information technology and business process outsourcing (ITO/BPO) industries, known as impact sourcing service providers (ISSPs). ISSPs are social enterprises – B2R Technologies and Digital Divide Data are two examples – that provide call center, transaction processing, data entry, and other technology-enabled services for commercial customers from remote locations around the globe. What is unique about ISSPs is that they do this with a social mission of creating jobs and economic …

Planting Rapidly Reproducing Churches, Curtis Sergeant Oct 2023

Planting Rapidly Reproducing Churches, Curtis Sergeant

Journal of Adventist Mission Studies

The principles in this article are ones gleaned from experience in planting rapidly reproducing churches in China. They were then tested through training, coaching, and mentoring church planters serving in over one hundred nations, mostly working among unreached people groups. Over the years I have come to the conclusion that it is difficult to make generalizations about evangelism, but it is more appropriate to make generalizations about discipleship and church planting. Evangelism is quite context-specific because half of the process is determined by what an individual believes and understands truth to be. Once someone has given themselves fully to the …

How Should The Adventist Denomination Deal With The House Church Trend?, Monte Sahlin Oct 2023

How Should The Adventist Denomination Deal With The House Church Trend?, Monte Sahlin

Journal of Adventist Mission Studies

Millions of Americans have abandoned the conventional structure of religion— the congregation or parish and denomination—for small, informal groups that meet for prayer, Bible study, and fellowship in homes or other temporary locations. A similar pattern is underway in Europe, and there is evidence that it is beginning in urban areas in Latin America and Africa. In fact, it has been a primary form of Christian faith in China, India, and the Middle East for some time and this includes Adventist missions.

How A Novel Research Framework Resulted In Fruitful Evangelism And Discovery: Introducing Ethnoscopy And Spiritual Patronage, L. Lynn Thigpen

Great Commission Research Journal

Faced with an unusual question from a Cambodian friend who had heard stories from God’s Word, I embarked on a quest for an answer. He worshipped an unusual and unfamiliar object and wondered whether he must abandon it to serve Christ. I knew he did, but I needed to explore the meanings ascribed to that object of worship to communicate the gospel more clearly, just as Paul did in Acts 17 while in Athens. According to Jesus’ parable of the soils in Matthew 13, fruitful evangelism involves understanding. How might individual missionaries and evangelists aid in that crucial need? With …

After 15 Years Of Planting Simple House Churches Around The World, What Have I Learned?, Milton Adams

Journal of Adventist Mission Studies

This article will highlight five areas of learning: (1) the conventional church attendance crisis, (2) church history, (3) Simple House Church planting, (4) the future of “church,” and (5) the rise of Disciple-Making Movements. It is intended to be descriptive. It is my story. In many ways, thanks to the input of many Simple Church planters, it is our collective Simple Church story of the past 15 years.

House Churches In The New Testament: Contextual, Theological, And Missiological Perspectives, Boubakar Sanou Oct 2023

House Churches In The New Testament: Contextual, Theological, And Missiological Perspectives, Boubakar Sanou

Journal of Adventist Mission Studies

For most of the first century, private dwellings shaped the Christians’ community life. Evidence to this phenomenon is found in the Acts of the Apostles and the letters of Paul. According to Acts 2:41, the Early Church numbered more than three thousand members after Pentecost. When the synagogues became off limits to them, meeting in private homes became a practical necessity for worship, fellowship, service, and mission (Acts 2:46; 5:42). In four of Paul’s epistles, he explicitly references private homes as the gathering places for early Christians (1 Cor 16:19; Rom 16:3-5; Col 4:15; Phil 2). The epistles are better …

The Importance Of Discovery Bible Reading In Households Of Faith, Peter Roennfeldt Oct 2023

The Importance Of Discovery Bible Reading In Households Of Faith, Peter Roennfeldt

Journal of Adventist Mission Studies

Discovery Bible Reading is a simple, reproducible process that fosters discipleship: disciple-making, spiritual growth, maturity, and biblical literacy. It is innovative, non-threatening and easy to use, with in-built protection against heresies and conspiracies. Pastors and leaders cultivating multiplying missional communities are enthusiastic about it, and it is increasingly seen as a feature of worship in households of faith.

Metamorphosis Of The Traditional Church: The Hybrid Church Model, Steven Edward Adams Aug 2023

Metamorphosis Of The Traditional Church: The Hybrid Church Model, Steven Edward Adams

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

For several decades, Church attendance in America has steadily declined. This observation is corroborated by extensive surveys and academic research analyzing church attrition. The national attendance phenomenon is evident is also evident at Livingwater Church of God. Using the Livingwater Church of God as the test lab, this project utilized and implemented the Hybrid Church Model, and evaluated its effectiveness for improvements. Substantiated by practical research surveys, interviews, and academic research, this thesis addresses attendance decline with a systematic implementation, evaluation, and modification of the Hybrid Model for the local church unique to the Western North Carolina area. This ministry …

Examination Of Volcanism And Impact Cratering On Terrestrial Bodies, Joshua J. Knicely Aug 2023

Examination Of Volcanism And Impact Cratering On Terrestrial Bodies, Joshua J. Knicely

Geosciences

Exploring and expanding our understanding of the planets (i.e., planetary science) encompasses a vast array of topics and disciplines. This dissertation concentrates on the surficial processes of and examination of terrestrial planets, primarily via the study of volcanism and impact cratering. The first project starts with an exploration of NIR remote sensing techniques as applied to Venus. This work found that NIR remote sensing at the clement conditions just beneath the cloud deck provide vastly improved imaging capability. This improved visibility is most notable for the tesserae, regions of Venus of great interest to the scientific community. Radar imagery and …

Small Satellite Conference

Recently, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) capabilities have seen an exponential increase in interest from academia and industry that can be a disruptive, transformative development for future missions. Specifically, AI/ML concepts for edge computing can be integrated into future missions for autonomous operation, constellation missions, and onboard data analysis. However, using commercial AI software frameworks onboard spacecraft is challenging because traditional radiation-hardened processors and common spacecraft processors cannot provide the necessary onboard processing capability to effectively deploy complex AI models. Advantageously, embedded AI microchips being developed for the mobile market demonstrate remarkable capability and follow similar size, weight, …

A Small Satellite Constellation For Monitoring Of The Aurora, Giada Staniscia, Bastiaan Lagaune, Sten Berge, Milan Battelino, Stefan Kraft

Small Satellite Conference

As part of the European Space Agency's D3S (Distributed Space Weather Sensor System), a small satellite constellation is currently being designed by OHB Sweden which will observe space weather impacts in Earth's vicinity by monitoring of the auroral oval. The primary objective of the Aurora mission is to observe the Aurora Borealis and Australis continuously and as complete as possible. The auroral emissions are the result of interactions of the Solar Wind and Coronal Mass Ejections with the Earth which drive the location and strength of electron precipitation on the ionosphere. Such observations will thereby allow the identification, characterization and …

Thirty Years After The Council: The Catholic Church In The Philippines' Reception Of Pcp Ii And Remembrance Of Martial Law, Kenjie I. Cortez

Asia Pacific Mission Studies

2021 was a momentous time for the Catholic Church in the Philippines as it commemorated the thirtieth anniversary of the Second Plenary Council of the Philippines (PCP II).2 Nonetheless, the following year was in no way inconsequential because it marked both thirty years since the promulgation of the Council's Decrees and fifty years since the declaration of martial law. While one may find this a sheer coincidence, one must not forget that the country’s martial law experience significantly shaped PCP II’s and its vision of renewal for the Philippine Church.3 With the election of the dictator’s son and namesake to …

Synodality, Community, And The Margins, Gemma Tulud Cruz Jun 2023

Synodality, Community, And The Margins, Gemma Tulud Cruz

Asia Pacific Mission Studies

Synodality is generally understood to represent a process of discernment-with the aid of the Holy Spirit-involving bishops, priests, religious, and lay Catholics, each according to the gifts and charisms of their vocation. As Gaudium et Spes reminds us it is for God’s people as a whole, with the help of the Holy Spirit, and especially for pastors and theologians, to listen to the various voices of our day, discerning them and interpreting them, and to evaluate them in the light of the divine word, so that the revealed truth can be increasingly appropriated, better understood, and more suitably expressed (GS, …
