Cho Yonggi’S Charismatic Leadership And Church Growth, David S. Lim Apr 2004

Cho Yonggi’S Charismatic Leadership And Church Growth, David S. Lim

Journal of the American Society for Church Growth

As the founding and senior pastor of the largest megachurch in the world so far, it is quite obvious that Rev. Dr. Cho Yonggi (hereafter, Cho) has been an effective leader of church growth (CG) in Korea and the world. How was he able to lead the Yoido Full Gospel Church (YFGC) to achieve such phenomenal growth? I am greatly honored to have been invited to present this paper that will focus on his personal charisma as one of the key factors that brought about such a development in church history.

Mission Leadership And Church Growth, Chris Sugden Apr 2004

Mission Leadership And Church Growth, Chris Sugden

Journal of the American Society for Church Growth

My question is what we can learn from Dr. Cho’s experience and writings about the role of leadership of Christian communities in Church growth. It is quite legitimate to do this as there are precedents in Christian history to characterize a movement of God by the writings and activities of a leader – there are Lutheran churches and Wesleyan churches. We are meeting to reflect on what characterizes a Choian church.

Planting Churches In The Changing Culture Of Southwest Virginia, Tommy Allen Jessee

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

This project is a review of the churches planted in a specific region of Southwest Virginia for the past twenty years. The project covers the church planting methods of four counties in Southwest Virginia. The purpose of the project is to look at the changing culture of Southwest Virginia, review the approaches being used in planting churches in this area, and develop a future plan to plant and transition churches. This would be a plan for the local church as well as the Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia and the Southern Baptist Convention.

Uses And Cautions Of Marketing As A Church Growth Tool, Darren Cronshaw Jan 2004

Uses And Cautions Of Marketing As A Church Growth Tool, Darren Cronshaw

Journal of the American Society for Church Growth

Advocates of church marketing assert that every church markets. Sunday newsletters, church signs, church letterheads and visitation of newcomers are all marketing tools. The question is whether such marketing is intentional and likely to be productive, or haphazard and unfocused

The Social Life Of Poetry: Pluralism And Appalachia, 1937-1946, Christopher Allen Green Jan 2004

The Social Life Of Poetry: Pluralism And Appalachia, 1937-1946, Christopher Allen Green

University of Kentucky Doctoral Dissertations

This dissertation demonstrates how poetry about Appalachia expanded American considerations of democracy, ethnicity, and cultural values. I argue that poetry is profoundly communal in its construction and investigate how the value of poetry changes based upon its transfer through varying networks of production, circulation, and reception. Informed by theories of cultural capital and rhetoric, the chapters trace three books of poetry from their composition and publication to their reception and influence, noting how central political and social institutions and individuals shaped that process. The dissertation establishes how the poets crafted their writing to sway specific interpretive communities attitudes on pluralism. …

A Critical Study On The Religious Economy Of The Korean Mission Field (1884 - 1910), Seonghan Kim Dec 2003

A Critical Study On The Religious Economy Of The Korean Mission Field (1884 - 1910), Seonghan Kim

Seminary Masters Theses

The church in Korea is well known for its rapid growth between 1960 and 1990, but remarkable church growth has been a part of Korean church history since the first missionaries arrived. This paper is the result of critical dialogue between the field of sociology and the study of religion. It applies the theory of religious economy to the Korean mission field during the period of 1884-1910. Religious economy is a sociological theory which has made unique and influential contributions to recent religious studies, especially in the United States. The theory attempts to explain the human side of religion based …

Transactional Stress: Challenge In A Capsule Environment, G. Daniel Steel Oct 2003

Transactional Stress: Challenge In A Capsule Environment, G. Daniel Steel

Journal of Human Performance in Extreme Environments

For the past five decades, research into specific features of capsule environments has been of interest to psychologists who study extreme environments. Along with this interest is a corollary theoretical effort to develop a classification system along general dimensions. The main impetus behind this endeavour appears to be a concern regarding the hypothetically harmful impact of the features. This article provides a brief overview of the environmental classification systems of Sells (1973), Harrison and Connors (1984), and Suedfeld (1987), and notes that many aspects of these approaches overlap the revised and more general transactional model of stress proposed by Folkman …

Simone: Interplanetary Microsatellites For Neo Rendezvous Missions, Roger Walker, Nigel Wells, Simon Green, Andrew Ball Aug 2003

Simone: Interplanetary Microsatellites For Neo Rendezvous Missions, Roger Walker, Nigel Wells, Simon Green, Andrew Ball

Small Satellite Conference

The paper summarises a novel mission concept called SIMONE (Smallsat Intercept Missions to Objects Near Earth), whereby a fleet of microsatellites may be deployed to individually rendezvous with a number of Near Earth Objects (NEOs), at very low cost. The mission enables, for the first time, the diverse properties of a range of spectral and physical type NEOs to be determined. Such data are invaluable in the NEO scientific, impact damage prediction, and impact countermeasure planning contexts. The five identical 120kg spacecraft are designed for low-cost piggyback launch on the Ariane-5 into GTO, from where each uses a high specific …
