A Dissonant Mission: Stephen Neill, Amy Carmichael, And Missionary Conflict In South India, Dyron Daughrity
All Faculty Open Access Publications
In 1924, eminent Church historian and missiologist Stephen Neill began his career as a missionary to south India under the supervision of the celebrated Amy Carmichael. What seemed like a match made in heaven resulted in a bitter parting of ways. How could such a promising mission partnership go so wrong? This paper draws upon primary research in order to examine this intriguing case study of conflict in the mission field. The paper will also introduce questions and implications that arise from the study of this incident. The paper is comprised of two components. We will first unpack the incident, …

Study Of An Aviation Design Supportability Course For Engineering And Technology, J. Mark Thom, Tracy Gerbracht
Study Of An Aviation Design Supportability Course For Engineering And Technology, J. Mark Thom, Tracy Gerbracht
Journal of Aviation/Aerospace Education & Research
The following reports on a study examining a typical aeronautical/aviation engineering senior design course, and examines how an aviation technology based course applying the elements of logistics support analysis might be taught concurrently. The study examines the content of a typical senior engineering design course, the required content for a technology based logistics support analysis course, and analyzes the overlaps. Over the course of the study the methods and limitations of engineering design were observed by the technology researchers and were used to formulate the content of an aviation logistics course.

Smallsats To The Moon: Providing The ‘Picks And Shovels For The 21st Century’S Greatest Exploration Endeavour’ , Adam Baker, Andy Phipps, Philip Davies, Xavier Alabart, Martin Sweeting
Small Satellite Conference
Small spacecraft have an enviable history of changing the economics of space. Space development and exploration has historically been costly, and going beyond Earth orbit even more so. However the cost-performance balance of small spacecraft has increased to the point where new commercial business cases using space infrastructure can be enabled. This paper outlines SSTL’s approach to low cost missions, and its validity to exploration, in particular the Moon. The political environment for supporting space missions, particularly exploration in the United Kingdom is covered, including study activities building the case for a national exploration programme and their fit to strategic …

Progressivism And The Mission Field: Church Of The Brethren Women Missionaries In Shanxi, China, 1908-1951, Carol Longenecker
All Theses
This thesis examines the attitudes and activities of Church of the Brethren women missionaries in Shanxi, China, between 1908 and 1951, focusing on evangelism, 'woman's work' programs, education, and relief work. This thesis presents the mission field as an expression of changing gender roles in the Church of the Brethren. In sum, Brethren women missionaries in Shanxi embodied both conservative and progressive ideologies and ultimately moved in a progressive direction, seeking growth, flexibility, and accommodation in their mission endeavor. The expansion of the Church of the Brethren mission field and the denomination's geographic and cultural boundaries has implications for the …

The 21st Century Mandaean Diaspora: New Opportunities To Reach Iraqi Mandaean Refugees With The Gospel, Karen Baker
The 21st Century Mandaean Diaspora: New Opportunities To Reach Iraqi Mandaean Refugees With The Gospel, Karen Baker
Masters Theses
Introduction This thesis argues that the status of Iraqi Mandaeans, who are fleeing their native country and becoming refugees by the thousands, presents an unprecedented opportunity for the gospel message. The Great Commission requires taking the gospel message to every people group in the world. However, the Mandaeans have been an inaccessible sect until the present time.
The Thesis This thesis evaluates the current situation of Mandaeans through academic journals and books, consultation with missionaries to Mandaeans, and interviews with Mandaean refugees. As a result of their physical isolation, deep within the Muslim world of Iraq and Iran, and their …
The Gospel As Holistic Mission: The Challenges Of Contextualizing Relief And Development, Wagner Kuhn
The Gospel As Holistic Mission: The Challenges Of Contextualizing Relief And Development, Wagner Kuhn
Faculty Publications
Contextualization of the gospel means that the gospel has not only been communicated but has also been understood, lived out, and has transformed individuals, and communities, as well as their culture. If we are to communicate the gospel message to other cultures, we must find ways to make it comprehensible without losing the message in cultural trappings. The gospel has multiple facets, of which relief and development are an integral part. Thus the integration of word and deed, being and doing, must always be the focus of true holistic mission.
