The Global Health Corps: Bringing The Power Of Prevention To The People, Michele Yehieli
International Journal of Global Health
The Global Health Corps is now recognized as a model program for improving the cultural competency of health related pre-professionals, and recently received $1,000,000 of federal funding through the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration fix its operations. It is also the winner of the 1999 Governor's Award for Excellence in Diversity Programming from the state of Iowa, and the Human Rights Award for Black Hawk County, Iowa. Amazingly, in just a few years time, the Global Health Corps has already trained nearly 200 students and served more than 10,000 at risk clients around the world. Through their efforts, students …

Examining The Need For Improved Health Education For Underserved Populations In Selected Eastern Caribbean Basin Nations, Linda K. George Miller
Examining The Need For Improved Health Education For Underserved Populations In Selected Eastern Caribbean Basin Nations, Linda K. George Miller
Graduate Research Papers
The Eastern Caribbean Basin (ECB) is comprised of several diverse islands that share many common characteristics. As tourism has increased in most of the islands, chronic disease patterns have also increased. The governments of these island nations are well aware of the need for increased health education efforts, but adequate personnel are not always available locally.
Complications from chronic disease are escalating in the aging population. Efforts to expand health education efforts among the islands would assist in reducing these complications and early deaths.
Diseases often seen on the ECB islands include hypertension, cardiovascular and heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and …

Global Connections In A Changing World: Romanian And U.S. Nurses Unite, Mary G. Schaal, Molly A. Rose, Ann Doherty, Adriana Vilan
College of Nursing Faculty Papers & Presentations
This article describes an international, interdisciplinary, university partnership project to collaborate with health professionals in the city of Cluj-Napoca, Transylvania, Romania, to improve the health status of Romanian workers. Academic and service-based public health nurses from the United States used the model of community competence in outlining the nursing aspect of the project. This model guided the assessment, objectives, collaborative activities, and the outcome evaluation of the project. The dimensions of the model (e.g., commitment, self-other awareness, articulateness, conflict accommodation, management of relations with larger society, and leadership) were used within the context of the political and social environment of …

Deagil Presbyterian Church Renovation: Another Opportunity At A Crisis, As A Traditional Church In Korea, Hyun Sik Park
Deagil Presbyterian Church Renovation: Another Opportunity At A Crisis, As A Traditional Church In Korea, Hyun Sik Park
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
A review of current literature demonstrates that very little material exists concerning the renovation of traditional churches. The purpose of this project is to illuminate leaders of traditional churches in Korea regarding renovation. Based on the surveys and questionnaires sent to Daegil Presbyterian Church members, to the neighbors in the community, and to other church leaders in the synod, the project reviews the historical perspectives, the present conditions, and the future vision. There are two kinds of crises in Korea: one is the stagnation of church growth; and the other is an IMF economic crisis. This project was developed using …
