Returning To Play: Play-Centered Art Therapy With Parentified Adult Caregivers, Paola Andrea Mendez Carreno May 2026

Returning To Play: Play-Centered Art Therapy With Parentified Adult Caregivers, Paola Andrea Mendez Carreno

Expressive Therapies Theses

This research investigates the impact of play-centered art therapy on parentified adult caregivers, focusing on how creative interventions utilizing elements of play can support identity development, self-compassion, and relational capacity. The literature indicates that childhood parentification leads to identity loss and burnout, but creative play can foster neuroplasticity and emotional processing by allowing adults to externalize harmful narratives that have been internalized. To explore these concepts, the author conducted four sessions over six weeks with an adult participant at a private outpatient practice in Massachusetts. Play-centered activities included free collaging, puppet-making, and clay modeling, often involving moments of parallel play …

Teacher Perceptions Of The Impact Of Sensory Integration And Processing On Student Occupational Engagement, Kyla Campbell, Colleen Cameron Whiting

Occupational Therapy Doctorate Capstones

Sensory Integration (SI) is defined as the brain's ability to organize and respond to information within the body and environment. School-aged children begin school with varying difficulties in SI and processing, which affects their social and academic performances. The field of occupational therapy (OT) promotes engagement in meaningful activities, in which going to school and participating in activities is vital to a child's development and wellbeing. The school setting is the second-largest employer of occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs) in the United States. Children with SI and processing difficulties have decreased participation in the classroom compared to their peers with typical …

Discrepancies Between Policy And Lived Experience In Spain’S Immigration Framework, Celia How May 2026

Discrepancies Between Policy And Lived Experience In Spain’S Immigration Framework, Celia How

McNair Scholars Collection

Despite extensive academic research and media coverage on refugees and undocumented migrants in Spain, these narratives often remain disconnected. This gap raises concerns about whether research fully captures the lived realities of displaced individuals. This qualitative study examines whether existing literature aligns with the experiences of refugees in Alcálá de Henares, Spain. Structured interviews were conducted with a refugee center director, a volunteer Spanish teacher, a refugee, and an undocumented migrant. Findings indicate that while academic research generally reflects key aspects of the refugee experience, it often underrepresents a critical issue: the inability to access legal employment despite a strong …

Voices From The Noise: Experiments And Considerations On Radio As Musical Instrument, Justin Taveras May 2026

Voices From The Noise: Experiments And Considerations On Radio As Musical Instrument, Justin Taveras

Student Theses

One of my primary goals in entering the Sonic Arts program was to familiarize myself with the tools and processes necessary for creating electronic music. My initial expectation was to learn how to use synthesizers, microphones, and effects processors to expand the timbral palette of my compositional practice. Coming from a background in contemporary classical music, I independently practiced working within the DAW timeline, and I was attracted to the level of compositional detail and control that a studio environment could offer. While these tools proved universal enough to become essential components of my current work, I did not expect …

Modulating The Plastisphere: Inhibiting Biofilm Formation Of Vibrio Spp., Kacian Clayton May 2026

Modulating The Plastisphere: Inhibiting Biofilm Formation Of Vibrio Spp., Kacian Clayton

Harriet L Wilkes Honors College Theses 2020 - Present

According to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), approximately 19-23 million tons of plastic are released into the aquatic environment each year. Vibrio spp. are diverse gram-negative bacteria that inhabit these environments, capable of colonizing and forming biofilms on these plastic surfaces. In an age when anthropogenic activity exerts an undeniable influence on ecosystems, elucidating a way to regulate the interactions between plastic and vibrios is essential. In previous studies, Polymyxin B has demonstrated high efficacy against biofilm formation in gram-negative bacteria, including Vibrio cholerae. The purpose of this study is to investigate the efficacy of cyclic lipopeptide antibiotics toward …

Propasafe-Hybrid: A Text-Based Hybrid Propaganda Detection Tool (Ila 2026 Presentation), Thomas Kimmeth, Avijit Roy, Vivek Sharma

Publications and Research

This presentation introduces Propasafe-Hybrid, a hybrid system for sentence-level propaganda detection that combines offline transformer-based classification with selective large language model (LLM) explainability. The system employs a two-stage pipeline in which a local BERT-based classifier evaluates all input text and filters non-propagandistic content, while only high-confidence candidates are forwarded to an LLM for rhetorical technique labeling and explanation. This design enables cost-aware, privacy-conscious, and scalable analysis by reducing unnecessary reliance on external models.

Propasafe-Hybrid identifies propagandistic techniques such as loaded language, obfuscation, and appeal to fear, and generates concise natural language rationales that make these techniques interpretable to users. By …

Developing Self-Determination Through Physical Activity Courses In Inclusive Post-Secondary Education Programs, Shannon P. Zimmerman, Samantha Ross-Cypcar, Peter R. Giacobbi, Lesley Cottrell, Emily Murphy, Andrea Taliaferro, Jeanette Garcia

Developmental Disabilities Network Journal

Adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) often experience low physical activity levels, with only 23% meeting recommended guidelines, increasing their risk for secondary health conditions. Inclusive Post-Secondary Education (IPSE) programs in the U.S. present an opportunity for physical activity promotion. This study examined physical activity strategies across a national sample of IPSE programs (n = 27) using a sequential mixed-method approach, including surveys and follow-up interviews, focusing on alignment with Self-Determination Theory (SDT). While 70.37% of programs offered formalized physical activity courses, all promoted physical activity informally. Common practices included peer mentorship (96.3% of programs), goal setting (100%), and …

Phosphorylation And Isomerization Of The Synaptic Scaffold Protein Psd-95, Sai Kanuru May 2026

Phosphorylation And Isomerization Of The Synaptic Scaffold Protein Psd-95, Sai Kanuru

Undergraduate Research and Engagement Symposium

PSD-95 is an important scaffolding protein located in the postsynaptic density that is abundant in glutamatergic synapses in the brain. It provides structural support for receptors in the postsynaptic membrane. It has been shown to be implicated in various neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's Disease and schizophrenia. It plays a crucial role in mediating NMDA receptor-dependent LTD, which is one of the primary mechanisms behind synaptic plasticity. NMDAR-LTD is dependent on multiple posttranslational modifications, one of which being phosphorylation. Our experiments investigated Pin1 mediated isomerization and phosphorylation of T19.

Corporate Neocolonialism, The Liability Of Foreignness, And Cultural Extractivism: The Rise And Fall Of The Stanford Cricket Empire In Antigua And The West Indies, Martin Barrett

Journal of Global South Sport Studies

Convicted Texas financier, Allen Stanford, reportedly fell in love with cricket during his many years living in Antigua. This love of cricket culminated with the infamous “20/20 for $20 million” match where the Stanford Superstars defeated the England cricket team at the Stanford Cricket Ground by 10 wickets in November 2008. A little over three months after the Super Series, Stanford’s cricket ventures dissipated when his companies were placed into receivership. The series was not, however, Stanford’s first foray into cricket. The purpose of this paper is to critically analyze the totality of Stanford’s involvement in cricket in the West …
