Exploring The Use And Misuse Of Large Language Models (Llms), Hezekiah Paul D. Valdez
Exploring The Use And Misuse Of Large Language Models (Llms), Hezekiah Paul D. Valdez
Master's Projects
Large Language Models (LLMs) have quickly gone from simple rule-based systems to complex knowledge bases capable of tackling many different tasks across a variety of fields. What began as an exercise in human-computer interaction has become the basis for artificial intelligence in a variety of mediums. When attached to larger systems, LLMs become generative assistants that can perform highly on human proficiency assessments and other benchmark skill assessments. This increase in proficiency has led these systems to be deployed in fields such as cybersecurity, business, and programming to help improve productivity and efficiency. However, such a wide availability has allowed …

Optimizing Web Design Code Generation: A Comparative Study Of Finetuning, Pretrained Models, And Rag (Retrieval Augmented Generation), Srinivas Rao Chavan
Master's Projects
Website Creation is revolutionized by automated code generation, reducing the development effort, speeding the production process, and ensuring consistency in design. Automated web design code generation has emerged as a transformative tool bridging the gap between design and development. In this research, a website design tool is developed and used to create visual layouts, exporting them as JSON designs. These JSON outputs were then transformed into textual prompts, optimized using established HCI principles and UI/UX rules to ensure consistency, visual hierarchy, aesthetics and minimalistic design, accessibility, user-friendly navigation and flexibility. These generated prompts were fed into large language models for …

Teaching Children Programming Concepts Through Video Games, Kayla Musleh
Master's Projects
Children have a tendency to lose focus when they are presented with something that does not entertain them or tailor to their personal interests; such as studying [1], [3], [10]. The research performed for this project focuses on studying how much more children can comprehend and focus on learning educational material if they are learning through playing a video game rather than being taught information directly in a typical classroom manner. For this study I created a computer game designed to introduce educational subjects such as mathematics and programming concepts to the child playing the game. By completing the tasks …

Exploring The Use Of Artificial Intelligence In Science Education In Teacher Training Institutions, Tindyebwa Alex David
Master of Education
This dissertation investigates the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into science education at teacher training institutions, aiming to identify effective strategies for its implementation. The research focuses on the central question: How can AI be effectively integrated into science teacher training to enhance future science education practices?
Employing a Design-Based Implementation Research (DBIR) framework, the study fosters collaborative exploration and iterative development alongside science tutors, teachers, and administrators. This approach bridges the gap between academic research and practical classroom application, ensuring that any proposed AI integration strategies are both theoretically sound and readily adaptable to real-world educational settings.
The research's …
A Systematic Review Of Resilient Early Childhood Education Strategies In Uganda: Insights From The Covid-19 Pandemic., Apio Grace
Master of Education
The COVID-19 lockdown had massive disruptions to early childhood education worldwide. This highlighted the need for resilient strategies to support children's learning during crises. This systematic review aimed to analyze and synthesize existing literature from different countries on resilient ECE strategies implemented during the pandemic to ensure the continuity and quality of education for children. The methodology employed involved a comprehensive search of academic databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, Scopus, Hinar, EBSCOhost, and grey literature. The inclusion and exclusion criteria encompass studies published between January 2020 and October 2023 and reports focusing on resilient ECE strategies implemented during the …
Trade Secrecy's Information Paradox, Christopher Buccafusco, Jonathan S. Masur, Deepa Varadarajan
Trade Secrecy's Information Paradox, Christopher Buccafusco, Jonathan S. Masur, Deepa Varadarajan
Public Law and Legal Theory Working Papers
Trade secret law is meant to encourage socially beneficial behaviors by permitting firms to protect their investments in the creation of valuable information. In theory, the ability to protect valuable information will make firms more likely to create that information in the first instance. But the law can also be used to shield socially harmful behaviors from public oversight. Firms can assert trade secret protection to prevent journalists, watchdogs, and criminal defendants from learning whether they are engaged in dangerous, wrongful, or biased activity. Ideally, trade secret law should sort socially beneficial uses from socially harmful ones, permitting only the …
Hippocampal Subfield Volumes And Memory Development From Middle Childhood To Late Adulthood: 2-Year Longitudinal Change And Modifiers Of Age Effects, Roya Homayouni
Wayne State University Dissertations
Introduction: The hippocampus (Hc) is crucial for memory function across all ages and is comprised of distinct subfields: dentate gyrus (DG), cornu ammonis sectors (CA1-3), and subiculum. Hc subfields support different aspects of memory function across the lifespan and are differentially vulnerable to late-life pathology. Increased knowledge of normative lifespan developmental trajectories of Hc subfield volumes will illuminate their cognitive and health correlates across different ages. Yet, the evidence on change and variability of Hc subfield volumes across the lifespan is sparse. Methods: Here, I conducted a meta-analysis of cross-sectional findings of subfield volumes across ages (n = 48,278 participants, …

Politicians The Founders Warned You About, Neil Fulton
Politicians The Founders Warned You About, Neil Fulton
UC Law Constitutional Quarterly
Many articles have explored the Founders’ intentions regarding the constitutional text. Much less attention has focused on the Founders’ ideas regarding the traits needed of the leaders in a constitutional republic. The Constitution focuses on governing structures, many of which relate to the electoral process. The Constitution does not spell out the ideal traits of the leaders elected pursuant to those processes. Nonetheless, the Founders possessed clear views about the virtues and qualifications that ideal political leaders required. Indeed, the Founders issued warnings about certain archetypal political figures who, because of their flagrant disregard of the ideal virtues and qualifications, …

The Dating Experiences Of Black Women, Sarah Ish
The Dating Experiences Of Black Women, Sarah Ish
Women's and Gender Studies Theses
My thesis centers around Black women’s dating and hookup experiences at Loyola Marymount University (LMU). I distributed a survey with 44 questions; five demographic questions and eight factors that include questions revolving around being romantically and/or sexually rejected based on their race/ethnicity. After three weeks of collecting data, my research has revealed patterns involving negative attitudes towards dating apps, admissions of hopelessness in finding an intimate partner, being fetishized by white people, and feelings of betrayal when/if a person of color expressed rejection based on their race/ethnicity. The implementation of feminist theory and feminist scholars such as Audre Lorde, Patricia …

Saint Louis University Journal of Health Law & Policy
The Supreme Court’s 2022 decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization was a pivotal moment that reshaped the landscape of abortion policy and delivery of abortion care in the United States. To create a space for critical reflection on the implications of Dobbs for the teaching and learning of abortion care in both medical and legal education, the authors engage in a dialogue highlighting the varied perspectives of professionals and professionals-in-training in both the medical and legal professions. As new attacks on reproductive autonomy continue at both state and federal levels, we foreshadow a tumultuous landscape for abortion policy …

Contemporary architectural practices focused on sustainable design and materials evidence the increasingly important role art, architecture, and design occupy in conversations and solutions around climate change. As carbon emissions continue to rise and global climate change becomes ever harder to ignore, it is imperative that architectural design incorporate sustainable materials and practices accessible to all. Using data from artists, architects, and designers committed to sustainability one can address the changing responses and developing technologies used to address climate impact. This article focuses on sustainable architecture, its historical roots, and its contemporary application to geographic areas particularly susceptible to climate change. …
Estradiol Signaling Improves Extinction Memory Recall To Combat Cue-Induced Heroin Relapse In Rats, Jordan S. Carter
Estradiol Signaling Improves Extinction Memory Recall To Combat Cue-Induced Heroin Relapse In Rats, Jordan S. Carter
MUSC Theses and Dissertations
We are in the midst of an opioid use disorder (OUD) epidemic. While several treatments mitigate a range of factors contributing to return to use, or relapse, the power of drug-conditioned environmental cues to precipitate relapse have not been adequately addressed. One treatment modality targeting cue reactivity, cue exposure therapy (CET), exacerbated relapse in individuals with OUD, perhaps due to a deficit in extinction memory recall (EMR). Here, EMR is the ability to override the drug-cue association and prevent relapse. Interest remains in combatting cue-induced relapse, potentially by introducing a pharmacologic adjunct with CET to enhance EMR. In the following …

Describing Dictee, Seo-Young J. Chu
Describing Dictee, Seo-Young J. Chu
Publications and Research
The visual images in Dictee are famously captionless. They resist straightforward explanation. In writing image descriptions of the images in Dictee, I have tried to preserve the "captionlessness" of the original. The point here is not to explain the pictures—an image description is not identical to a caption—but to make Dictee more accessible to readers who are blind and visually impaired. I realize, of course, that in trying to make Dictee's captionless images more "legible," I have inevitably "mistranslated" Dictee as it was originally designed to be experienced. Its captionlessness is lost in translation despite my efforts to preserve it. …
