Adapting And Promoting Tourism For Children In Venice And The Lagoon Islands: A Comparative Analysis Of Food-Related Discourse Strategies In English And In Italian, Daniela Cesiri Prof. May 2026

Adapting And Promoting Tourism For Children In Venice And The Lagoon Islands: A Comparative Analysis Of Food-Related Discourse Strategies In English And In Italian, Daniela Cesiri Prof.

International Journal of Islands Research

According to the latest available version of the Annual Tourism Survey drafted by the City of Venice, in 2023, 12,628,079 tourists visited Venice and the Lagoon Islands (Bettiol & Marini, 2025). This survey does not provide data on the age groups of these visitors, but they are available in the previous version of the same Survey (Bianchetto & Marini, 2022), which reports that 29% of tourists were in the 46-71 age group. Therefore, we can presume that, excluding the older age groups, quite a large proportion of visitors is likely composed of young tourists and families with children. This study …

How Licensing Compromised The Library, Aaron Perzanowski May 2026

How Licensing Compromised The Library, Aaron Perzanowski

Seattle University Law Review Online

Public libraries are besieged on multiple fronts: spiraling costs, budget cuts, book bans, patron privacy risks, inaccessible digital exclusives, embargoed titles, and unstable collections—not the mention a general decline in reading coupled with an upswing in reliance on artificial intelligence. No single development can explain all of the many challenges facing libraries today. But this Article argues that the shift from library-owned print collections to licensed digital ones is an overlooked throughline that has contributed to this constellation of challenges in underappreciated ways. For centuries, the first sale doctrine gave libraries broad autonomy over what they acquired, preserved, and lent. …

The Library Of Congress’S Essential Role In Digital Preservation: Reconceiving Mandatory Deposit After Valancourt, Dave Hansen May 2026

The Library Of Congress’S Essential Role In Digital Preservation: Reconceiving Mandatory Deposit After Valancourt, Dave Hansen

Seattle University Law Review Online

As the published record shifts to digital formats, the mechanisms that have ensured long-term preservation are breaking down. Most libraries acquire digital materials through licensing agreements that prohibit preservation copying, format migration, and interlibrary loan—contractually overriding the exceptions Congress enacted in the Copyright Act. The Library of Congress occupies a unique position: Through statutory deposit under 17 U.S.C. §§ 407 and 408, it collects copyrighted works pursuant to federal law rather than license agreements, and deposited copies become federal property under § 704, free from contractual restrictions. This Article examines how the Library’s deposit authority can be strengthened after the …

Leveraging Technology, Copyright, And Libraries To Benefit The Public Interest, Michelle Wu May 2026

Leveraging Technology, Copyright, And Libraries To Benefit The Public Interest, Michelle Wu

Seattle University Law Review Online

Rapid developments in technology have radically changed the practice of copyright; however, this revolution has provided disproportionate, lopsided advantages to corporate interests over public ones. For example, publishers today can charge the same buyer for the same e-book many times over while simultaneously depriving them of the rights normally conveyed with purchase, such as the rights to resale, donation, lending, and bequeathing. Technology itself is a neutral tool, so there is no reason that the current landscape must be so unbalanced. This Article explores two ways in which libraries can both maximize the public benefits of knowledge and provide added …

Beyond The Library Of Congress: The Federal Library Ecosystem As Democratic Information Infrastructure, Nancy E. Weiss May 2026

Beyond The Library Of Congress: The Federal Library Ecosystem As Democratic Information Infrastructure, Nancy E. Weiss

Seattle University Law Review Online

This Article argues that the federal library ecosystem functions as democratic information infrastructure embedded within the institutional design of the United States government. Operationalized through national libraries, agency libraries, and federally supported library networks, this system organizes, preserves, and disseminates authoritative information, thereby supporting effective governance, public welfare, scientific progress, and democratic accountability.

The Article traces the development of this infrastructure from the establishment of the nation’s first federal library within the U.S. Department of State through the evolution of federal support for library services under the Library Services and Technology Act. Through two case studies—the United States implementation of …

Why The Library Of Congress Matters More Than Ever, Hope O'Keeffe May 2026

Why The Library Of Congress Matters More Than Ever, Hope O'Keeffe

Seattle University Law Review Online

In a symposium examining the broader importance of libraries, this Article makes the case for why the Library of Congress (LOC) is itself essential. Because the LOC’s broad range of programs is little known, this Article first summarizes the collections and components of the LOC and the ways it provides key resources to the American people and library communities. It then focuses on LOC programs that best illustrate the TILE Institute’s[1] technology, innovation, and ethics principles and concludes with a discussion of the importance of maintaining not just a national library, but a nonpartisan, politically independent Library of Congress. …

Adolescent Literacy: Bridging Literacy Gaps In Georgia's Social Studies Classrooms A Call For Disciplinary Literacy In Secondary Education, Kimberly N. Miles May 2026

Adolescent Literacy: Bridging Literacy Gaps In Georgia's Social Studies Classrooms A Call For Disciplinary Literacy In Secondary Education, Kimberly N. Miles

Teaching Social Studies in the Peach State

This article advocates integrating disciplinary literacy into secondary Social Studies instruction, arguing that the content area is critical to strengthening adolescent reading skills, particularly in alignment with the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE). Drawing from the "Bridging Literacy Gaps" presentation, the paper asserts that literacy is not merely a prerequisite for studying history but the very methodology by which students learn to read, write, and think like historians.

The article details three high-leverage strategies for Social Studies educators:

  1. Disciplinary Literacy and Multimodal Text Integration: Teaching students how experts analyze primary and secondary sources, and integrating diverse media (e.g., political cartoons, …

Federated Cognitive Twins, Johny Manuel-Devadoss, Joanna Johnson, Jayden Johnson May 2026

Federated Cognitive Twins, Johny Manuel-Devadoss, Joanna Johnson, Jayden Johnson

Defensive Publications Series

The current generation of personalization systems is fundamentally constrained by a centralized representational paradigm in which users are reduced to static behavioral embeddings owned and monetized by platform operators. Existing recommender architectures infer preference vectors from fragmented interaction telemetry and optimize engagement through increasingly opaque reinforcement pipelines. Such systems exhibit severe deficiencies in epistemic continuity, user sovereignty, contextual cognition, longitudinal identity fidelity, and privacy-preserving personalization. This paper introduces Federated Cognitive Twins (FCT), a next-generation computational architecture for continuously evolving, cryptographically sovereign, locally anchored cognitive simulations representing human behavioral dynamics, ethical priors, attentional signatures, learning topology, persuasion resistance characteristics, trust propagation …

Agentic Experience And Routing Optimization Using Web Model Context Protocol, Linda St. Marie, Anjani Kumar Thakur May 2026

Agentic Experience And Routing Optimization Using Web Model Context Protocol, Linda St. Marie, Anjani Kumar Thakur

Defensive Publications Series

A system and method are described for preserving and executing multi-variable user intent between an advertisement medium and a destination digital platform. The technology utilizes web model context protocols to allow a destination platform to declare available functions via code microdata. Upon user interaction with an advertisement, a context provider constructs an encoded payload representing the intent, which is transmitted to the action provider. A client-side orchestrator decodes and executes the intended actions to alter the destination state dynamically without relying on static backend routing. Keywords: Context provider, action provider, intent routing, web model context protocol, client-side execution, digital advertising.

The Minimalist Footwear Paradox: Unloading The Foot, Overloading The Bone, Shrihari L Kulkarni, Harpreet Kour May 2026

The Minimalist Footwear Paradox: Unloading The Foot, Overloading The Bone, Shrihari L Kulkarni, Harpreet Kour

Indian Journal of Health Sciences and Biomedical Research KLEU

Background: Minimalist footwear (MF) and barefoot walking and running are increasingly adopted in India, often using low-cost flat shoes or no footwear at all. However, abrupt transition on hard urban surfaces (concrete, marble, tile) may predispose to metatarsal stress fractures, plantar fasciopathy, and Achilles' tendinopathy. Objective: To synthesize current biomechanical and physiological evidence on MF transition and present clinical case data from a single centre in North Karnataka. Methods: We reviewed published studies examining bony strain, intrinsic foot muscle adaptation, and injury rates following MF use. Additionally, we present representative clinical cases from combined Orthopaedics and Physiology outpatient services (January …

The Joy Of Shopping: Thrill Of The Treasure Hunt, Jane Gu, Cristina Nistor, Matthew Selove May 2026

The Joy Of Shopping: Thrill Of The Treasure Hunt, Jane Gu, Cristina Nistor, Matthew Selove

Business Faculty Articles and Research

People sometimes enjoy the thrill of the hunt, which implies search can generate joy in addition to costs. Some customers say they enjoy searching for unique items such as vintage T-shirts and luxury handbags, and managers at warehouse stores, thrift stores, and many online selling platforms say they design their store format to offer a treasure hunt experience. We develop a model in which customers enjoy searching for a treasure. Our model’s search utility function includes a term based on the treasure’s net value, a term based on the instantaneous likelihood of discovering treasure, and a constant term reflecting other …
