Mecklenburg County Veteran Needs Assessment, Mary Rachel Keville, Nosa Akol, Zachary Bridgewater, Gilly Cantor, Emily Graham, Vincent Delsignore Jun 2026

Mecklenburg County Veteran Needs Assessment, Mary Rachel Keville, Nosa Akol, Zachary Bridgewater, Gilly Cantor, Emily Graham, Vincent Delsignore

Institute for Veterans and Military Families

Mecklenburg County’s Community Support Services’ Veterans Services Division (MCVSO) has sought to strategically improve their outreach and engagement with veterans and the military community within Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. To achieve this, MCVSO partnered with the D’Aniello Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) and Veterans Bridge Home (VBH) to design and deliver a community needs assessment focused on understanding the county’s veteran population, identifying service gaps, understanding barriers to care, and assessing how to best engage the veteran population. A multi-format needs assessment survey was designed and marketed towards the military-connected community within Mecklenburg County. The assessment was supplemented …

Monte Carlo Analysis Of Dose Distribution In Tumour And Adjacent Healthy Tissues During 192Ir Hdr Brachytherapy In The Presence Of Gold Nanoparticles, Damian P. Tippe, Innocent J. Lugendo Jun 2026

Monte Carlo Analysis Of Dose Distribution In Tumour And Adjacent Healthy Tissues During 192Ir Hdr Brachytherapy In The Presence Of Gold Nanoparticles, Damian P. Tippe, Innocent J. Lugendo

Tanzania Journal of Science

High dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy using 192Ir is an effective modality for cancer treatment; however, its therapeutic efficiency is often constrained by unintended radiation exposure to healthy tissues surrounding the tumour. Fortunately, the incorporation of high atomic number (Z) nanoparticles as radiosensitizers has emerged as a promising strategy to enhance tumour dose while sparing adjacent normal tissues. In this study, the dose distribution in tumour and nearby healthy tissues during 192Ir HDR brachytherapy was investigated in the presence of gold (Au) nanoparticles using Monte Carlo simulations based on the Geant4 toolkit. Radial dose distributions and anisotropy characteristics were analysed …

Corkscrew Motion Of Trypanosoma Brucei Is Driven By Helical Beating Of The Flagellum And Facilitated By Its Bent Shape, Sizhe Cheng, Devadyouti Das, Mykhaylo Barchuk, Raveen Armstrong, Michele M. Klingbeil, Becca Thomases, Shuang Zhou Jun 2026

Corkscrew Motion Of Trypanosoma Brucei Is Driven By Helical Beating Of The Flagellum And Facilitated By Its Bent Shape, Sizhe Cheng, Devadyouti Das, Mykhaylo Barchuk, Raveen Armstrong, Michele M. Klingbeil, Becca Thomases, Shuang Zhou

Significance:

Trypanosoma brucei is a single-cell parasite causing sleeping sickness across 37 sub-Saharan countries, threatening ~60 million people. Revealing its locomotion mechanism is critical to understand its lifecycle in fly vectors and mammalian hosts; however, progress has been hindered by the rapid and complex cell deformation driven by a laterally attached flagellum. By tracking the 3D motion of fluorescent particles attached to cell surface, we demonstrate that tip-to-base helical waves generate self-propulsion like an active corkscrew, with reactive torque inducing counterrotation of the cell body. These findings inform future investigations of the underlying biomechanics, suggest potential routes for therapeutic intervention, …

Skill Acquisition: Evaluation Of Instructional Procedures, Ellen I. Ratliff Jun 2026

Skill Acquisition: Evaluation Of Instructional Procedures, Ellen I. Ratliff

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Identifying effective and efficient interventions is essential for establishing independent responding in learners with autism spectrum disorder and related developmental disabilities. The present study replicated and extended Gorgan and Kodak (2019) by comparing differential reinforcement, most-to-least prompt fading, and extended response interval procedures for teaching novel skills to three children with autism spectrum disorder who did not demonstrate prompt-dependent responding. Using an adapted alternating treatments design, each intervention was evaluated against a control condition with an equated opportunity interval. Extensions to prior research included conducting a reinforcer assessment to verify differentiation in stimulus potency, modifying the controlling prompt assessment to …

“The Ai Pushed Me To Consider New Perspectives”: Preliminary Observations On A Chatgpt Intervention Designed To Elicit Critical Thinking About Media Headlines, Karina Luna, Chelsea Julian Reynolds, Ali Zain Jun 2026

“The Ai Pushed Me To Consider New Perspectives”: Preliminary Observations On A Chatgpt Intervention Designed To Elicit Critical Thinking About Media Headlines, Karina Luna, Chelsea Julian Reynolds, Ali Zain

Journal of Media Literacy Education Pre-Prints

This study explored whether a custom AI chatbot could be a relevant tool for promoting critical thinking about news bias. The research team discusses the development of a custom critical media literacy chatbot and its implementation in an upper-division critical media studies course at a large North American public university. Students interacted with the chatbot to analyze news headlines about transgender issues, employing a scaffolded framework to dissect media framing and generate alternative frames. We argue that the same AI technologies fueling anxiety can be reimagined as partners in cultivating critical media literacy and guiding future directions in journalism pedagogy. …

Career Planning Expectations Of Maritime Vocational Students: A Case Study From Iskenderun Technical University, Türkiye, Özkan Akar Jun 2026

Career Planning Expectations Of Maritime Vocational Students: A Case Study From Iskenderun Technical University, Türkiye, Özkan Akar

Seatific Journal

This study investigates the post-graduation career planning preferences, influencing factors, and expectations of 138 students enrolled in maritime education programs at İskenderun Technical University in Türkiye, using a structured survey administered to students from the Maritime Technologies Vocational School to examine career intentions, sectoral awareness, salary expectations, and perceptions of institutional support. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and non-parametric tests (Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis). The findings indicate that 41.3% of students reported no specific sector preference, while 26.1% preferred the public sector, 21.0% the private sector, and 11.6% were undecided. Among students favoring public employment, Port Authorities, …
