Regional And District Trends In Oregon’S Post-Pandemic School Enrollment And Achievement, Madhu Narayanan

Northwest Journal of Teacher Education

Oregon has been highlighted as a state with large student enrollment changes after the pandemic, as well as persistent learning loss. Unlike many other states in the nation, this learning loss has persisted. This paper goes beyond the statewide trends to examine regional and district level patterns in both enrollment changes and learning outcomes. One major finding is that while districts in all regions experienced enrollment changes, Large Urban and Suburban districts had notable enrollment declines. These declines were driven by a decrease in White students. Meanwhile, Suburban districts had increases in Asian, Black, and Multiracial students. Another finding is …

Journal of Bioresource Management

Polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) aliphatic polymers however efficiently biodegradable, still pose a contradiction with the principles of green chemistry. Use of bacterial strains capable of degrading synthetic plastics for the production of biopolymers i.e., PHAs may aid in reduction of plastic pollution. Bacterial strains PWA; Bacillus subtilis (MH142143), PWF; Bacillus tequilensis (MH142145), and PWG; Bacillus safensis (MH142146) were grown on waste shredded PET and PET flakes. Highest bioconversion of PET to PHA was observed using PET flakes. Strain PWF produced 40.47 % (0.815 g/L) and 31.80 % (0.626 g/L) PHA using PET flakes and shredded PET at 48 h, respectively. Whereas highest …

Ifi16 Mediates Deacetylation Of Kshv Chromatin Via Interaction With Nurd And Sin3a Co-Repressor Complexes, Anandita Ghosh, Bala Chandran, Arunava Roy

School of Medicine Faculty Publications

IFI16 is a well-characterized nuclear innate immune DNA sensor that detects foreign dsDNA, including herpesviral genomes, to activate the inflammasome and interferon pathways. Beyond immune signaling, IFI16 also functions as an antiviral restriction factor, promoting the silencing of invading viral genes through transcriptional and epigenetic mechanisms. We recently demonstrated another role of IFI16, in which it interacts with and recruits the class I histone deacetylases, HDAC1 and 2, to the KSHV latency protein LANA, modulating its acetylation and function. In this study, we asked whether these IFI16-HDAC1/2 interactions contribute to broader epigenetic regulation of the KSHV chromatin. Our findings reveal …

Framing Messages Toward Pro-Environmental Behavior: A Self-Determination Theory Perspective, Anna A. Mendiola, Ma. Regina M. Hechanova

Journal of Management for Global Sustainability

The urgency of environmental issues has led to increased efforts to encourage pro-environmental behavior that is motivationally self-determined. On the other hand, persuasive communication has been established as having the ability to increase pro-environmental behavior significantly. Currently, there is hardly any research that links the use of persuasive communication, motivational constructs of Self-Determination Theory (SDT), and pro-environmental behavior. An experiment was conducted on 420 university students utilizing messages framed in terms of addressing needs of autonomy, competence, and relatedness, the basic constructs of SDT. The results established the differential effect of these messages on motivation and pro-environmental behavior. In contrast …
