Tv Versus Video Games: Their Distinctive Effects On Adolescent Behavior And Academic Achievement, Faiaz Rahman, Kathy L. Schuh

Mid-Western Educational Researcher

The current paper uses data collected from a publicly available, nationally representative data set to examine the effects of TV viewing and video gaming on adolescent behavioral problems and cognitive achievement. Results revealed that extended hours of TV viewing were associated with greater anxiety/depression and antisocial problems. On the other hand, extended hours of video gaming were associated with higher reading comprehension scores. Differing effects of TV viewing and gameplay by an individual’s sex was also found during the analysis. It is also important to note that the opposite effects that the two media has on outcomes, indicate that, although …

Participants anonymously completed a ten-minute mixed methods virtual survey using Microsoft Forms. Thematic and inferential statistical analyses …

Generation Of Animated Video Sequences From Static Images Using A Structured Motion Graphics Plan, Kyle Lampert Sep 2025

Generation Of Animated Video Sequences From Static Images Using A Structured Motion Graphics Plan, Kyle Lampert

Defensive Publications Series

Creating animated video sequences from static images to support a narration can be a time-consuming and skill-intensive process. A described method may automate aspects of generating documentary-style motion graphics. A system can receive a static image and a narrative description as inputs. For example, a first artificial intelligence (AI) model can perform an analysis to identify relevant points of interest in the image. Subsequently, a second AI model may generate a structured motion graphics plan that defines a sequence of virtual camera movements and on-screen annotations. A rendering engine can then interpret this plan to produce a video file, which …

Account Creation And Provisioning Using Virtual Identity Card, Andreas Zingler Aabye Sep 2025

Account Creation And Provisioning Using Virtual Identity Card, Andreas Zingler Aabye

Defensive Publications Series

Embodiments allow for binding an account number (e.g., a primary account number (PAN)) with a digital identity card (e.g., mobile driver’s license (mDL)). During a transaction between a user (e.g., account holder) and a transacting entity (e.g., merchant, resource provider), where the user presents a token associated with the PAN, even though the user ID information is not shared with the transacting entity, the transaction processing server can know that the user ID information was linked in the past from the binding between the PAN and the digital ID and can verify authenticated use (or identify fraudulent use) immediately.

Monetization Framework For Extended Reality Environments, Mahdi Tayarani Najaran, Ruofei Du

Defensive Publications Series

Conventional advertising models designed for two-dimensional platforms offer opportunities for significant improvement within Extended Reality (XR) environments. These traditional models rely on simplistic metrics like impression counts and fail to leverage the unique spatial and immersive capabilities of XR. A formalized framework for XR monetization is disclosed to address these limitations. The framework’s core technical components include the introduction of novel spatial ad placements, such as world-locked and environment-aware ad types, that are native to three-dimensional spaces. Additionally, the framework introduces advanced interaction metrics that leverage XR device sensors for a more nuanced understanding of user engagement.

The Nexus of Sustainability and Energy Technology Journal

Additive Manufacturing (AM) of polymer composites has matured from a prototyping tool into a viable process for functional components. This review critically assesses this progress, focusing on the intersection of performance, sustainability, and industrial readiness. Advancements in AM processes now accommodate diverse reinforcements, from nanoscale fillers to continuous fibres, yielding parts with exceptional mechanical properties. Concurrently, a sustainability strategy has emerged, prioritising bio-based and recycled feedstocks, enhanced process energy efficiency through novel out-of-oven curing, and circular economy principles. However, widespread industrial adoption is hindered by persistent challenges. These include managing fibre-matrix interfacial integrity, the inherent anisotropy of printed parts, complex …

Holidays, Religiosity, And Democratic Attitudes, Hannah Ridge Sep 2025

Holidays, Religiosity, And Democratic Attitudes, Hannah Ridge

Political Science Faculty Articles and Research

Decades of research have linked religion and religiosity to support for democracy and authoritarianism. This study uses a temporal religious prime during national surveys – the European Social Survey and the National Election Survey – to identify the effect of religion on regime-type preferences. Jewish Israelis who took surveys on Friday or Saturday, the Jewish Sabbath, expressed more openness to non-democratic governance. They also interpreted the word democracy in a more populist way. Furthermore, non-religious Jews were less democratic on the Sabbath and more interested in strongman rule than they were on days without the religious connotation. Similarly, more religious …

“Sisters, Are You Running Out Of Menstrual Supplies??”: Exploring #Sistersfightpandemicwithease And Tactical Hashtag Feminism In The Covid-19 Crisis, Qingyue Sun

Interdisciplinary Studies

This article examines the hashtag feminism movement#SistersFightPandemicWithEase (#SFPWE) on Weibo, analyzing how it navigated state censorship, online misogyny, and platform governance during the Wuhan lockdown in China. Through qualitative analysis, I argue that #SFPWE diverges from traditional hashtag feminism, instead operating as a form of pragmatic feminism in crisis. The movement embodies what I term tactical feminist activism—an issue-based advocacy that prioritizes pragmatic problem-solving over structural critique. Its tactical nature lies in its ability to appear politically non-threatening and temporarily valuable to authorities. However, findings indicate that #SFPWE ultimately reinforced state legitimacy rather than challenging the structural gender inequalities underlying the …

Cyberloafing And The Effects On Information Technology Infrastructure, Robert Ceneskie

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Cyberloafing, or the use of business resources for nonwork-related internet activity, can negatively affect technology infrastructure and organizational productivity. In K–12 public school districts, IT administrators and school leaders are directly affected, as network degradation and ransomware attacks can disrupt instruction, compromise sensitive data, and reduce access to critical resources. This quantitative correlational, ex post facto study, grounded in activity theory and the theory of human-technology interaction, was to determine whether there was a statistically significant relationship between employee cyberloafing, network degradation, and ransomware security attacks in the education sector. Data were collected through public records requests for bandwidth usage, …

Cultural Representation In Global Film Discourse: A Bibliometric Analysis Of Dominant Themes And Western Hegemony, Nur Fajri Hijriyani, Hanun Dzikra Arienda, Firmansyah Firmansyah, Nur Wijaya Hariadi, Alem Febri Sonni

JURNAL KOMUNIKASI INDONESIA

This study investigates the dominant themes and discursive structures within global film scholarship through a bibliometric analysis of 404 Scopus-indexed articles published between 2019 and 2024. Using VOSviewer to map keyword co-occurrence, citation networks, and authorship patterns, the research identifies five major thematic clusters: Hollywood, feminism, representation, Bollywood, and popular culture. The findings reveal a persistent dominance of Western narratives positioning them at the centre of global film studies. In contrast, themes related to non-Western cinema, such as Bollywood, appear less central and more fragmented within the academic discourse. These results highlight how bibliometric patterns reflect broader ideological structures, reinforcing …

The interviews were audio recorded, transcribed, and analyzed …

Examining The Feedback Effects Of The Child And Family Services Review Process On The Child Welfare Caseworker, Molly Blanchette Sep 2025

Examining The Feedback Effects Of The Child And Family Services Review Process On The Child Welfare Caseworker, Molly Blanchette

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The Child and Family Services Review (CFSR) is a federally mandated continuous quality improvement process that sets and assesses national child welfare performance standards. The CFSR impacts agency practices and caseworker responsibilities. Research has linked high turnover rates, averaging around 30% nationally, to agency-related variables, some of which are influenced by the CFSR. Given this context, it was necessary to understand how the CFSR performance standards impact the workforce. Policy feedback theory grounded this study as it was used to examine the feedback effects of the CFSR on child welfare caseworkers. The research question was “How are the federal performance …

Exploring Lived Experiences And Perceptions Of Individuals With Substance-Use Disorder Recovery Management From A Biopsychosocial Perspective, Robin Carter Priest

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Substance-use disorder (SUD) poses significant biological, psychological, and sociological impacts that negatively affect areas of employment, health, family systems, and interactions with social welfare and legal agencies. Although there has been research on SUD treatment, relapse rates remain high at approximately 40%–75%, demonstrating a gap in the literature involving individuals who completed SUD treatment and continuation or management of recovery. Grounded in phenomenological theory and through a biopsychosocial lens, this qualitative study explored the lived experiences and perceptions of individuals with substance-use disorder managing their recovery. Data were collected from 8 individuals who completed partial hospitalization or intensive-outpatient levels of …

Fathers’ Lived Experiences After Their Children Experienced Child Sexual Abuse, Joan Michelle Lucien Sep 2025

Fathers’ Lived Experiences After Their Children Experienced Child Sexual Abuse, Joan Michelle Lucien

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Child sexual abuse (CSA) is a global health crisis with deleterious consequences that violates children’s safety worldwide. Exact rates of CSA prevalence vary, as most cases of CSA are not disclosed. Survivors delayed or nondisclosure impedes early interventions to alleviate documented adverse effects of CSA. CSA survivors have an increased risk of suicidal ideation. This phenomenological study involved examining the lived experiences of adult fathers after their children experienced CSA. Finkelhor and Browne’s traumagenic dynamics framework guided this study. Traumagenic dynamics influence children’s cognitive and emotional functioning and distort their self-esteem, identity, worldview, and affective capacities. Stigmatization has been associated …

Indian Standard Of Plastic Containers And Closures For Dispensing Homoeopathic Pharmaceutical Preparations, Homoeopathy Sectional Committee, Ayush Department, Bureau Of Indian Standards, New Delhi, India

Indian Journal of Research in Homoeopathy

Homoeopathic medicines require safe packaging to maintain their quality and effectiveness. Proper packaging prevents contamination, preserves potency, and ensures patient safety. Hence, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) had received the proposal from the Ministry of Ayush for the development of BIS standards for packaging material used for homoeopathic medicinal products (HMP). One such packaging is plastic containers. Accordingly, IS 19084: 2024 was developed and notified, which specifies requirements for plastic containers and closures used for packaging, storage, and dispensing of homoeopathic pharmaceutical preparations in solid and liquid dosage forms. This paper reports the details of the standard and the methodology …
