Fixing Our Failures With Data: Data Literacy And Global Issues In A Middle School Novel Study, Mary Grace Scartz

Virginia English Journal

This paper explains the rationale behind and need for teaching data literacy approaches in an English classroom. It outlines a unit of study based on the book by Victoria Jamieson and Omar Mohammad, When Stars are Scattered, which follows the true story of Omar as he navigates education and family responsibilities in a refugee camp in Kenya. Because of the relevant and important global challenges that arise in the story, students need a wealth of background knowledge to approach the text. This paper argues that this background knowledge is best delivered through the use of real-world data about refugees …

Reflections From A Summer Literacy Intervention: Unlocking A Love Of Literacy In Struggling Readers, Rory K. Cantwell, Jenny M. Martin

Virginia English Journal

Summer literacy interventions offer a solution to the devastating impacts that summer literacy loss can have on struggling readers and writers. However, these interventions should consider the impact of student attitudes towards literacy on their learning and strive to develop positive associations between literacy and enjoyment. Camp Curious, a summer literacy intervention developed as a collaboration between the Virginia Association of Teachers of English and Shrine Mont, a retreat and conference center, embodies this idea. The intervention, in the form of a week-long camp experience, strives to provide third through sixth graders with positive and varied experiences related to literacy. …

Out-Of-Band Bluetooth Pairing Using Infrared Remote Control Protocols, Guillaume Bailey, Gaëtan Delcroix Oct 2025

Out-Of-Band Bluetooth Pairing Using Infrared Remote Control Protocols, Guillaume Bailey, Gaëtan Delcroix

Defensive Publications Series

In general, conventional radio frequency (RF) pairing methods for computing devices that use, for example, Bluetooth technology may rely on in-band communications between the computing devices. The reliance on the in-band communications between the computing devices for pairing may result in a slow, probabilistic process that may be prone to failure. Such a process may lead to a poor user experience. For example, a user may use in-band communications between a remote control device for a smart television and the smart television when pairing the remote control device with the smart television during, for example, an out of box setup …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

When nonprofit leaders fail to implement effective strategies to engage and motivate diverse donors to make significant charitable donations, they could limit their organization’s capacity to fulfill its mission, which in turn affects the community. The purpose of this qualitative single-case study was to explore the strategies that some African American women leaders used to increase donor engagement and improve fundraising effectiveness. The study was grounded in the conceptual frameworks of the Baldrige Excellence Framework, McKinsey 7-S, and servant leadership theories. Data were …

Effective Strategies To Integrate Social Media Influencers In Marketing Frameworks, Vanessa R. Alexander

Social media dominates modern marketing, yet many retail businesses struggle to integrate social media influence into their business marketing frameworks. This problem is important to retail marketing leaders because unsuccessful integration influence can weaken brand credibility and reduce revenue. Grounded in Cialdini’s theory of social influence and the electronic word-of-mouth model, the purpose of this qualitative pragmatic inquiry was to identify and explore effective strategies that retail industry marketing leaders on the East Coast of the United States used to integrate social media influencers. The participants were eight retail industry marketing leaders on the East Coast of the United States. …

The Last Werewolf is an interactive narrative game exploring lived experiences of bipolar disorder through metaphor and emotional design. Drawing on the creator’s personal perspective, the game uses cyclical transformation as a lens for understanding mood episodes and identity fragmentation. The showcase presentation examined how mechanics and narrative structure were used to embody bipolar experiences, aiming to foster empathy and nuanced mental health representation in games. By integrating creative practice with research, The Last Werewolf demonstrates how independent games can meaningfully communicate complex psychological realities through interactive storytelling.

Purpose – This study aims to explore the impact of social comparison orientation (SCO) on financial management behavior (FMB) in a developing country with a collectivist culture. Client And Clinician Priorities For Same-Day Prep And Doxy-Pep Awareness, Uptake, And Persistence In Primary Care, Nathaniel Albright Oct 2025

Client And Clinician Priorities For Same-Day Prep And Doxy-Pep Awareness, Uptake, And Persistence In Primary Care, Nathaniel Albright

Dissertations

Approximately 70% of all new human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infections are among populations of sexual and gender minorities (SGM) and are primarily attributable to sexual contact. Currently, only 26% of the U.S. population who would benefit from HIV preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) are prescribed this effective biomedical HIV prevention strategy. Biomedical prevention strategies for bacterial sexually transmitted infections (STI) like doxycycline postexposure prophylaxis (doxy-PEP), are a vital component to the successes of ending the HIV epidemic given the well-known association between STIs and risk for HIV infection. In this multiple methods study, we leveraged group concept mapping and conducted focus groups …

Pawns In The Power Struggle: Navigating Creative Labor Precarity Across Mcns, Platforms, And State Regulation In China, Qingyue Sun

Interdisciplinary Studies

This study examines how digital creators navigate the precarious Chinese digital creative industries (DCCIs), shaped by multi-channel networks (MCNs), platform logic, and intensifying state intervention. Drawing on interviews with 34 creators, I identified three challenges facing Chinese creators: (1) dual exploitation by volatile platforms and capricious MCN management; (2) erosion of creative autonomy under MCN gatekeeping and state oversight; (3) involuntarily being enlisted as propaganda artisans. Creators, especially those affiliated with MCNs, are increasingly positioned as state labor with governed creativity: cultural workers whose output is shaped, constrained, and redirected by the layered imperatives of state mandates, platform governance, and …
