Toward A Feminist Geo-Legal Reading: Us Country-Of-Origin Information In Asylum Adjudication, Malene H. Jacobsen, Austin Crane, Elise Dosch
Faculty Publications
In this article, we offer what we call ‘a feminist geo-legal reading’ of documents used in spaces and practices of law. Legal cases and decisions are often based on different legal and non-legal documents, including laws, explanatory memorandums, testimonies, medical reports, and so forth. In contemporary asylum adjudication, country-of-origin information reports (COIs) have become a crucial source of authoritative evidence as asylum officers and immigration judges use these reports in their determination of a person's need for and right to protection. However, there is no straight line from COIs' substance to the prevailing authority that they command within asylum adjudication. …

The Independent Music Scene In The Levant Between 2003 And 2023: Do-It-Yourself With The Support Of Arts And Culture Organizations, Areej Abou Harb
Regards
The beginning of the 21st century witnessed the rise of the internet and mobile technologies, as well as the expansion of the digital sphere and the emergence of the Do-It-Yourself music. Simultaneously, it experiences significant changes that reshaped the arts and cultural scene in general, and the music production in particular across the Levant. This period marked the institutionalization of arts and culture production and diffusion. It saw the formation of “intermediate” pan-Arab and regional organizations such as Culture Resource (Al-Mawred Al-Thaqafy) and AFAC (The Arab Fund for Arts and Culture), as well as the establishment of small record labels, …

Sonic Acts Of Care: Friendship-Based Networks And Grassroots Activism In Beirut, Rim J. Irscheid
Regards
The article examines a Beirut-based network of self-funded, independent musicians that translate memories and their emotions into artistic and activist practices. Drawing on musical albums created since the 2020 Beirut port explosion, the article explores the social and emotional impact of artist-run spaces for music production. Focusing on a friendship-based network around the collectively-run recording studio Tunefork Studios, it examines how care, trust, and solidarity with Lebanon’s citizens and music producers are translated into both their creative practices and their production and distribution strategies. I argue that Beirut-based musicians increasingly thematise the emotional toll and personal investment in political, infrastructural …

This article examines the role of the SoundCloud platform in building careers for independent rappers and producers in the Middle East, particularly in Jordan and Palestine. Based on an ethnographic survey conducted between Amman and Jerusalem, the author analyses how artists use this platform to make themselves known, distribute their music, and navigate a digitized musical ecosystem. The study draws on Popular Music Studies and studies of digital platforms to examine three main areas.
The first concerns visibility, through the recommendation tools and playlists offered by SoundCloud, which provide local and international exposure. The second looks at the forms of …
Mental Health Awareness For Teachers: A Review Of The Literature, Jerry Burkett
Mental Health Awareness For Teachers: A Review Of The Literature, Jerry Burkett
Journal of Educational Leadership in Action
Mental health is a state of wellbeing in which an individual realizes their abilities and can cope with the normal stresses of life (Bohare & Tiwari, 2020). These individuals are productive in their work, life, and communities. These people can manage their mental health challenges which can range from high to low (MHFA, 2020). Research is showing a growing need for expanding mental health support in K-12 schools. Schools are in a unique position to address today’s mental health crisis among members of the education community. (Mcluckie et al., 2014; National Association of School Psychologists, 2015; Ormiston et al., 2021). …

Curriculum Beyond Constraint: Stakeholder Perspectives On Innovation And Autonomy In A Free School, Lucy A. Barker, David Littlefair, Christopher Million
Journal of Educational Leadership in Action
Free schools in the UK, like international ones, were established to promote autonomy, innovation, and diversity in education. This case study explores how one such school in the South of England, leveraged these freedoms to co-construct a distinctive and socially just curriculum. Data collected through semi-structured interviews and focus groups with school leaders, teachers, trustees, and parents was analysed thematically and revealed how leadership, curriculum design, and the hidden curriculum intersect to support holistic development, equity, and community cohesion. Particular attention is paid to how extended opportunities in the arts, sport, and enrichment activities contribute to cultural capital and wellbeing. …

A Return To The Foundations Of Social Information Processing Theory, Thomas K. Kelemen, Michael J. Matthews, Jacob M. Whitney, Samuel H. Matthews
Management Faculty Publications
Social information processing theory is a well-known perspective that is used across a variety of domains, including leadership, organizational behavior, entrepreneurship, and more. Despite being formulated nearly 50 years ago, this perspective has gained momentum of late and is being applied with greater frequency in the management domain. However, the question remains as to how current applications and knowledge align with the original tenets of social information processing theory. In this paper, we seek to answer this question. Via a close reading of seminal articles and a review of the extant literature, we document three troubling trends: a historical drift …

Background: The prevalence of psychiatric and neurological disorders in populations with human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) presents significant public health concerns including impaired quality of life, reduced antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence, and elevated morbidity and mortality rates. Research suggests that these correlations translate to millions of people globally, given that over 25 million people are living with HIV/AIDS in the African region alone. Objective: This article explores the overlap in clinical presentation and pathophysiology between psychiatric and neurological conditions and seeks to fill current knowledge gaps regarding their co-occurrence, misdiagnosis, and impact on treatment outcomes. Methods: A comprehensive literature …

This study explored how femicide and sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) are framed in the media across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda between January 2024 and April 2025. Using a mixed-methods approach, the research combined quantitative content analysis with qualitative interviews to uncover both coverage patterns and the contextual factors shaping them. The codebook for content analysis was developed from existing literature and grounded in media framing theory, drawing on the works of Goffman, Entman, Iyengar, Tuchman, and Van Zoonen. The analysis focused on frame types (episodic and thematic), framing attributes, main actors, and story treatment, while interviews with journalists, editors, …

Entre Religion Et Médias : Méfiance Et Alliance, Betsa Estephano
Horizons et Conjonctures
In a context of continuous information flow, the relationship between religions and the media appears both conflictual and complementary. The media play a decisive role in shaping public perceptions of religions and in determining their visibility, while religious traditions, aware of this influence, seek to use these channels to communicate their message and engage in dialogue with society. This interaction raises crucial issues such as freedom of expression, respect for religious pluralism, and the ethical responsibility of media professionals. The article examines how Judaism, Christianity, and Islam maintain diverse and sometimes ambivalent relations with the media, marked by fear of …

Harmonie Sacrée : De La Famille Maronite Et De La Foi Dans La Tradition Maronite, Joseph Salim Al-Khoury
Horizons et Conjonctures
The study of Syriac liturgy and the families of Lebanese saints highlights the profound spiritual influence of the Maronite Church on family life, calling for a renewed pastoral vision aimed at building “parishes of sacred families.” It shows how the close bond between the Maronite Church and village families, shaped by the ascetic spirituality of hermits, fostered a domestic life grounded in prayer, fasting, sacrifice, Scripture reading, and Christian virtues. This heritage, rooted in the early Christians of Antioch, enabled the sustained transmission of Christian values through an asceticism shared by both clergy and laity. The flourishing of saintly vocations …

Material passports (MPs) are datasets designed to track and manage building elements’ lifecycles, including the documentation of provenance, location, or disassembly information. The last few years have seen a growth in MPs development, catalysed by international, national, and regional directives on decarbonisation, data transparency, product labelling, and the need to rethink the reporting of sustainability metrics in the built environment. Recent MP prototypes, however, encompass multiple data architectures and have been implemented across various building typologies, regulatory jurisdictions, and construction processes, resulting in unclear adoption pathways in industry. In response to this challenge, this paper maps this emerging field using …

INTRODUCTION: Fenestration of the lateral semicircular canal has been proposed to improve intracochlear gene therapy delivery, but the relationship between the membranous and bony labyrinths at the canal apex has not been systematically defined.
METHODS: We examined 62 human temporal bones, including 31 unaffected specimens and 31 with chronic otitis media, using histologic review to assess the membranous-to-bony relationship at the apex.
RESULTS: In all specimens, the membranous labyrinth directly contacted the outer circumferential bony wall.
CONCLUSION: This consistent finding, independent of disease state, indicates that fenestration at the lateral canal apex carries a high risk of membranous injury. Potential …
