Exploring Private And Governmental Interest In Bitcoin, Mina Khadem Nov 2025

Exploring Private And Governmental Interest In Bitcoin, Mina Khadem

Undergraduate Theses, Capstones, and Recitals

Regardless of one’s opinion, Bitcoin’s presence in the global economy is growing. However, Bitcoin’s emerging role and its implications are greatly under-researched, particularly in the context of government interest in Bitcoin. Nonetheless, increased private investment in Bitcoin and increased government interest in formally incorporating Bitcoin into existing economic systems, suggest a new development within the global economy that must be investigated. Through qualitative text analysis of pro-Bitcoin narratives presented in digital media platforms and official government policies and public statements, this thesis explores how private and government interest in Bitcoin is explained and framed within these contexts. This study finds …

The Experience Of Black Mothers Preparing Their Black Sons For Race-Related Risks, Yamilka Torres Nov 2025

The Experience Of Black Mothers Preparing Their Black Sons For Race-Related Risks, Yamilka Torres

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Despite progress in addressing racism in the United States, its effects remain deeply entrenched, particularly for Black families. Research on Black parenting shows that parents adapt their strategies to protect children from criminalization, discussing violence, providing safety within the home, and limiting exposure to unsafe environments while also managing their own stress. Yet limited attention has been given to how Black mothers prepare their sons for race-related risks within the modern sociopolitical climate shaped by the #BlackLivesMatter movement. The purpose of this basic qualitative research study was to explore how Black mothers prepare their Black sons for race-related risks. Carter’s …

Destination Branding Strategies In The Hospitality And Tourism Industry, Mary Ann Richey Nov 2025

Destination Branding Strategies In The Hospitality And Tourism Industry, Mary Ann Richey

Senior Honors Theses

Within the last few decades, destination branding has gained significant traction in the hospitality and tourism industry. Therefore, it is essential that marketers within the industry pursue destination branding and analyze both successful and unsuccessful destination marketing campaigns. Successful campaigns cultivate positive consumer perceptions of destinations for both tourists and residents. Unsuccessful campaigns showcase that differentiation and a lack of residential support negatively impact national tourism. In order to successfully conduct destination branding campaigns, industry leaders must partake and acknowledge current industry trends. In 2025, the most impactful way to successfully market tourism destinations is through the use of online …

Exploring Themes Of Gender And Nature Through An Ecofeminist Analysis Of Three Eco-Horror Films, Valeria Evelin Valdez Rios

Undergraduate Research Symposium Posters

With warmer days and more frequent natural disasters, it is clear to see climate change and global warming on the rise. It is more important now than ever to spread awareness about climate change’s consequences and how we can address them. Both nature and women are oppressed by patriarchal, capitalist systems, which is why we are interested in the intersection of gender and nature in environmental media. Our hopes are to tap into an under-studied field of environmental communication by analyzing eco-horror films, which are horror films with environmental messages. Using ecofeminist rhetorical theories, we analyze how three eco-horror films …

Women’S Lived Experiences With Harassment In Gaming, Angelo Cordero, Alejandra Santos, Claudia Q. Luu

Undergraduate Research Symposium Posters

Background and objectives: Women in gaming communities face discrimination due to their gender; however, gaps exist in the literature in understanding how allyship helps mitigate harassment’s harmful effects. To address this, we conducted a qualitative study exploring women’s lived experiences of sexual harassment in gaming and how women perceive allyship in gaming communities. Methods and approach: We used an inductive thematic analysis to identify patterns in participants’ experiences. Our sample (N = 165) included adult women who identified as gamers, recruited from a university and various Discord gaming communities. Results: We uncovered six main themes regarding women’s harassment experiences in …

Museums In Public Libraries: An Ethnographic Case Study Of The Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library, Yadira Y. Quintero

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Access to information is a human right, and this thesis explores the benefits and challenges of integrating museums into public libraries by conducting an ethnographic case study of the Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library. The study's findings highlight the complexities of integration. The biggest benefit is the increased access to museum collections, information, and resources. However, challenges arise from the lack of cohesion within the museum and library disciplines, as well as strained community relations. Engaging the community is crucial for successful collaboration, emphasizing the importance of a bottom-up approach that allows for active participation. Integrating museums into public libraries …

Cultivating A Sense Of Community: International Students Navigating Community Engaged Learning Opportunities In Line With Their Social Goals, Katherine Lyon, Nicole Malette Nov 2025

Cultivating A Sense Of Community: International Students Navigating Community Engaged Learning Opportunities In Line With Their Social Goals, Katherine Lyon, Nicole Malette

Journal of Comparative & International Higher Education

International students often envision their time studying abroad with particular academic, professional, social, linguistic, and identity-related goals in mind (Fong, 2011; Jones, 2013; Montgomery & McDowell, 2009; Page, 2019; Page & Chahboun, 2019). Post-secondary institutions can provide resources and opportunities to help this heterogeneous group of students bring their vision into fruition. One such opportunity is community engaged learning (CEL), which has been shown to help students expand their social and academic abilities as they make contributions to an organization (Arnold, 2019; Greenberg, London & McKay, 2020; Mayer et al., 2019). Through in-depth interviews with 25 new international students who …

Incubators Of Innovation: Finding A Place For Title Ix In Religious Charter Schools, Emily Bass Nov 2025

Incubators Of Innovation: Finding A Place For Title Ix In Religious Charter Schools, Emily Bass

Duke Law Journal

Since the early 1990s, many people across the country have embraced charter schools as "incubators of innovation." Charter schools are publicly funded, tuition-free, K–12 schools that have more flexibility than traditional public schools in curriculum, staffing, and more. With this flexibility, charter schools constantly test new approaches, aiming to inspire educational reform.

In recent years, some have begun calling for a new kind of charter school: the religious charter school. In May 2025, the Supreme Court deadlocked in Oklahoma Statewide Virtual Charter School Board v. Drummund, a case involving St. Isidore, the nation's first explicitly religious charter school. For …

Patent Monopsonies, Roy Baharad, Gideon Parchomovsky Nov 2025

Patent Monopsonies, Roy Baharad, Gideon Parchomovsky

Duke Law Journal

Conventional wisdom perceives patent protection as a necessary evil. Patent protection, the argument goes, raises the prices of patented products and processes, thus restricting access to innovation. But without it, not enough innovation will be produced. Hence, generations of scholars have sought ways to curb the market power of patentees via various legal interventions, such as prizes, compulsory licenses, and other forms of regulation. All have tacitly assumed that eroding the market power of patentees would result in a competitive market for innovation that would put an end to the allocative inefficiencies and distributional inequities that emanate from patent protection. …

The Role Of Educators In Cultivating Self-Efficacy Among School-Leaver Enabling Students: Perspectives And Practices, Ana Larsen, Trixie James, Amy Robinson, Angela Jones, Matilda Coleman, George Lambrinidis, Rachel Daniel

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

In Australia, government-funded Enabling programs provide equitable pathways to higher education for students from diverse backgrounds, including increasing numbers of recent school-leavers. This collaborative autoethnographic study explores six Enabling educators’ lived experiences across five universities to understand how they perceive and cultivate self-efficacy among school-leaver students. Thematic analysis revealed three overarching areas: educators’ perceptions of students’ readiness for higher education, strategies used to develop self-efficacy, and barriers that constrain this work. Findings highlight the complexity of fostering self-efficacy in younger cohorts, who often display both overconfidence and low academic self-belief. Educators identified the importance of pedagogies of care, growth mindset, …

Assessing E-Health Utilization: An Integrated Analysis Of Social Determinants Of Health, Population, And Psychosocial Factors Using Data From The National Cancer Institute Hints Survey, Farah Faizah

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

The rapid integration of digital technologies into health systems has transformed the way individuals’ access, manage, and utilize health information. Yet, persistent inequities in e-health engagement highlight the role of social determinants of health (SDoH) in shaping access and utilization. This dissertation examines how demographic, socioeconomic, and geographic determinants influence three domains of e-health utilization—cancer information seeking, internet use, and wellness application/wearable device adoption—using nationally representative data from the 2022 cycle of the National Cancer Institute’s Health Information National Trends Survey (HINTS). The study further investigates whether these determinants vary by cancer status and across racial/ethnic groups, providing a multidimensional …

Martial Arts Studies: A Commentary On The Exploration Of Consciousness In Modern Martial Arts, James H. Sutton Nov 2025

Martial Arts Studies: A Commentary On The Exploration Of Consciousness In Modern Martial Arts, James H. Sutton

Journal of Conscious Evolution

The rapid globalization of martial arts has reconditioned how the beliefs, customs, and philosophies of traditionally based systems are interpreted and applied in modern practice. As contemporary scholarship struggles to accommodate the cultural histories, myths, and traditions that permeate the perception of martial arts in modern contexts, the focus of inquiry has shifted towards explaining cultural variations in practice rather than understanding the nature of self-awareness derived from self-practice. Consequently, the deeper meanings of martial arts as pathways to personal and transpersonal awareness are often invalidated in favor of objective and verifiable explications. In short, the role of consciousness is …

Culturally Aware Mindfulness Training For Army Leaders: A Scalable Solution To Strengthen Mental Readiness, Katherine Dutler (Skowronski) Nov 2025

Culturally Aware Mindfulness Training For Army Leaders: A Scalable Solution To Strengthen Mental Readiness, Katherine Dutler (Skowronski)

Graduate School of Professional Psychology: Doctoral Papers and Masters Projects

This doctoral paper examines cost-effective, easily distributed mindfulness practices as a force-multiplier for psychological readiness in the U.S. Army. Daily mindfulness reduces symptom burden, raises distress tolerance, and sharpens performance—all without added equipment, appointments, or cost. However, stigma, long waitlists, and civilian-centric messaging still deter soldiers from adapting mindfulness practices. Rather than replacing clinicians, the program functions as preventive maintenance and a bridge while soldiers await care, thereby easing load on an overtaxed system. By embedding mental fitness alongside physical PT, the Army can advance its mandate to “deploy, fight, and win” with forces that are both mentally and physically …

An Examination Of Disparities In Adhd Diagnosis Between Men And Women, Julia Holloway Nov 2025

An Examination Of Disparities In Adhd Diagnosis Between Men And Women, Julia Holloway

University Honors Theses

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder has become an increasingly popular area of study over the last decade. The rise in cases over the same period likely explains this trend, as does ADHD’s status as one of the most commonly encountered neurodevelopmental disorders. While much of this research has served as an invaluable asset to both practitioners and patients there are still blind spots which have yet to be addressed by the existing body of research. This progress in our understanding of ADHD has gone far in illuminating the biases which have set the precedent for treatment and diagnosis, however, widespread understanding …

Art And Critical Thinking, Audrey Nixon Nov 2025

Art And Critical Thinking, Audrey Nixon

University Honors Theses

The voice of art molds and dictates norms and behaviors of society. Art eases people into sitting with discomfort or alternate ideas of the world. I work with mixed-media collage to respond and react to culture and the current American political climate. Through the act of expressing and working through thoughts and emotions, art teaches people how to process, it teaches histories of resistance, and empathy. Artists have the ability to engage their audience to critically think about what is happening in our world. By channeling expression and passion, art can help people make necessary connections about concepts that lead …

Fatf Recommendation And Charitable Organizations Supervision Policy In Indonesia: A Study On The Prevention Of Terrorism Financing, Fithriadi Muslim, Eva Achjani Zulfa Nov 2025

Fatf Recommendation And Charitable Organizations Supervision Policy In Indonesia: A Study On The Prevention Of Terrorism Financing, Fithriadi Muslim, Eva Achjani Zulfa

Indonesian Journal of International Law

This research aims to analyze the supervision policies of charitable organisations in Indonesia, particularly in the context of preventing terrorism financing, and comparing them to international provisions, such as the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). It also explores the oversight practices in other countries to identify the best practices that Indonesia can adopt. The research addresses two key questions: (1) How do Indonesia’s supervision policies for charitable organisations prevent terrorism financing? (2) How do Indonesia’s supervision practices compare with international standards in preventing terrorism financing? This study uses a normative juridical approach, focusing on legislative and comparative methods. Primary legal …

Between Utterance And Action: The Shaping Of Social Accountability In India’S Coastal Commons, Nayana Udayashankar, Aarthi Sridhar

Journal of Law and Public Policy

Judicial orders, management plans, and zonation maps prepared in relation to environmental laws encode the jurisprudence on accountability. Laws such as India’s Coastal Regulation Zone Notification (CRZ Notification) 2019 serve as sources of discourse on use and access rights. Such laws are crucial in shaping developmental decisions and democratic practice along the coast. As an environmental law that contains detailed articulation on judicially mandated planning, mapping, and public access to regulatory information, the CRZ Notification 2019 offers a good case to understand the relation between legal discourse and citizens’ agency. Citizens of the state of Tamil Nadu representing its small-scale …

Lessons Learned From Showcasing Repository Usage Statistics To Inform And Inspire, Hilary Davis, Avkash Chandra

Medical Institutional Repositories in Libraries (MIRL) Symposium

After one year of going live with our repository, researchers are capitalizing on the repository's benefits to enhance the impact of their work. One key set of data that has driven more inspiration and inquiry from our internal stakeholders is the repository statistics. We know that data dashboards are a common leverage point in our organization, so we decided to bring the repository statistics into the internal environment in which our stakeholders are already investing their time and resources. Our challenge was to create a dashboard of repository usage statistics to inform, inspire, and motivate uploads to our digital repository. …

Medical Institutional Repositories in Libraries (MIRL) Symposium

This presentation outlines the novel method developed by the Historical Resources Center (HRC) at MD Anderson Cancer Center for migrating its oral history collection between platforms. The HRC’s model for maximizing accessibility involves segmenting each interview into chapters, each with a title, abstract, and subject headings. The system also aims to present both the media files and transcripts of interviews simultaneously. Over the past fifteen years, the collection has undergone multiple processing and publishing models. At one point, the archives relied on four software platforms: a browser-based display system, CONTENTdm and LibGuides for search and browsing, and ArchivesSpace for finding …

A Trauma-Informed Approach To Video Review In Medical Institutional Repositories, Amanda Greenwood

Medical Institutional Repositories in Libraries (MIRL) Symposium

Since the 1970s, the University of Virginia School of Medicine’s Medical Center Hour has hosted speakers who explore the relationship between medicine and society. When patrons request access to recordings that have not been digitized, staff must carefully review the footage to identify sensitive material such as PHI and apply redactions before making the video accessible. While this process ensures compliance with privacy and confidentiality requirements, it can surface deeper emotional and ethical concerns. Staff may be exposed to distressing content during review, and patrons may be confronted with emotionally challenging material with little preparation. This presentation discusses how trauma-informed …
