Effective Strategies For Retaining Nonofficer Talent In Retail Banking, Janique Johnson Aug 2026

Effective Strategies For Retaining Nonofficer Talent In Retail Banking, Janique Johnson

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Retail banking organizations lose billions of dollars annually to nonofficer employee turnover, disrupting operations, degrading customer service, and burdening human resource (HR) leaders with repeated recruitment costs. When retail bank HR leaders experience nonofficer employee turnover among their frontline workforces, it can influence profitability and community trust. Grounded in stakeholder theory, the purpose of this qualitative pragmatic inquiry was to identify and explore effective strategies used by retail bank HR leaders to retain nonofficer talent. The participants were 10 HR leaders in U.S. retail banking institutions who had successfully implemented nonofficer retention strategies. Data were collected using semistructured interviews and …

Literacy Hubs: Human-Centered, Coordinated Approach Towards Advancing Adult Literacy In A Community, Alexandria M. Marzolf

Masters Projects

Low adult literacy skills have been a pervasive and persistent challenge in the United States for more than a century. One in five adults (21%) possesses low literacy skills (National Center for Education Statistics, 2026), a finding consistent with statistics reported by the National Literacy Institute (2024). Despite decades of educational reform, many adults continue to experience limited access to coordinated, community-based literacy support. The purpose of this master's project was to develop a community-based Literacy Hub framework designed to increase access to adult literacy learning opportunities through coordinated partnerships and community engagement. An extensive review of educational research, community …

Application And Development Of Continuum Treatments In Photodetachment Of Anions, Pratichhya Adhikari Aug 2026

Application And Development Of Continuum Treatments In Photodetachment Of Anions, Pratichhya Adhikari

Arts & Sciences Graduate Student Theses and Dissertations

This dissertation aims to provide deeper insight into understanding the dynamics of the photodetached electrons and the nature of the parent species. The dissertation provides examples of quasi-bound states of the anion embedded in the continuum of states associated with the neutral species, and shows how they manifest in experimental data, deviating from expectations of direct detachment. This dissertation is primarily computational and applies and develops electronic-structure and continuum models, respectively, and a newly implemented physical dipole treatment of the photoelectron to account for these resonances and to interpret experimental photoelectron imaging data. The content of the dissertation is divided …

Threads Of The Frightening: The Uncanny, Alienation, And Horror In Otsuichi's Fiction, Kathryn Lawhon Stephens Aug 2026

Threads Of The Frightening: The Uncanny, Alienation, And Horror In Otsuichi's Fiction, Kathryn Lawhon Stephens

Arts & Sciences Graduate Student Theses and Dissertations

The “J-horror boom” of the 1990s and early 2000s saw the international success of films like Nakata Hideo’s Ring (1998), bringing considerable and laudable attention to Japanese horror in the realm of film and media studies. Yet even Ring’s Sadako, one of the most popular contemporary figures in Japanese horror, first appeared as a literary character years before her debut on screen. The average layperson’s unfamiliarity of such a famous horror icon’s literary origins illuminates the comparative lack of literature-centric scholarship on major writers and figures of Japanese horror that this dissertation seeks to rectify.

First interrogating the fluidity …

Modifying Lta Zeolites For Reversible Hydrogen Sulfide Capture And Elucidating The Structure Of The Incorporated Metal And Sulfur Ions, Adeyemi D. Ojaide Aug 2026

Modifying Lta Zeolites For Reversible Hydrogen Sulfide Capture And Elucidating The Structure Of The Incorporated Metal And Sulfur Ions, Adeyemi D. Ojaide

Theses and Dissertations

Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a highly toxic and corrosive gas that poses significant environmental and industrial challenges, particularly within the wastewater treatment and oil and gas sectors. H2S leakage is among the deadliest industrial hazards, highlighting the urgent need for the development of highly efficient, non-corrosive adsorbents. This dissertation provides an in-depth examination of the use of metal-zeolites for H2S capture. We carefully investigate the impact of multiple divalent and one monovalent transition metals on LTA zeolites to optimize H2S removal. While Linde Type A (LTA) zeolites offer a robust structural framework for gas separation, a comprehensive understanding of how …

Improving Pain Reassessment Within One Hour Of Pain Medication Administration, Geraldine B. Macalma Aug 2026

Improving Pain Reassessment Within One Hour Of Pain Medication Administration, Geraldine B. Macalma

Master's Projects and Capstones

Abstract

Problem: Timely reassessment of pain is often missed or inconsistently documented, creating a gap between evidence-based standards and actual nursing practice. This inconsistency prevents evaluation of intervention effectiveness and contributes to unmanaged pain, reduced patient satisfaction, and safety concerns.

Context:  Pain reassessment is a critical component of evidence-based pain management, ensuring that nurses evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and adjust care accordingly.  Competing priorities and documentation challenges often lead to inconsistent reassessment, affecting patient comfort, safety, and overall quality of care.

Interventions: Guided by a Plan-Do-Study-Act framework, the intervention included documentation of a safety round, purposeful hourly rounding, …

Moving Forward, Looking Back: How Mormon Women Sought To Carry Their Polygamous Past Into A Progressive Future Article, Evan Janis Aug 2026

Moving Forward, Looking Back: How Mormon Women Sought To Carry Their Polygamous Past Into A Progressive Future Article, Evan Janis

The Thetean: A Student Journal for Scholarly Historical Writing

The influence of woman is fully recognized.” These words, spoken by Emily S. Richards, echoed the shared mission of Utah women at the World’s Congress of Representative Women: to overturn the public perception of them as ignorant, crude, and barbaric. After decades of legal and social campaigns against the so-called “second barbarism” of polygamy, the reputation of Mormon women had been one of its greatest casualties. Cast as too homely to marry a respectable man, too naive to resist deception, and too submissive to think for themselves, the Utah delegation to the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair sought to redefine their …

Narrating The Bucolic South: How Southern Living Reflected And Shaped The South In The 1990s, Krista C. Wright Aug 2026

Narrating The Bucolic South: How Southern Living Reflected And Shaped The South In The 1990s, Krista C. Wright

The Thetean: A Student Journal for Scholarly Historical Writing

In December 1995 at a company Christmas party, previous editor Gary McCalla spoke with Emory Cunningham, sitting president and chair who oversaw the transition from the practical Progressive Farmer to a lifestyle magazine for the “New South.” Looking around the room, Cunningham remarked, “These young people have no idea where we came from.” McCalla recalled a memo he and John Logue, creative director of the magazine, had written in the early days, outlining “what we believed had to be done to save Southern Living.” At that moment, the two noticed the song playing in the background— “History” by Michael …

Extracting Aromatic Compounds From Dehydrated Rose Buds, Lana Sheridan Aug 2026

Extracting Aromatic Compounds From Dehydrated Rose Buds, Lana Sheridan

Discovery Day - Daytona Beach

Eugenol (C10H12O2), methyl eugenol (C11H14O2), and 2-phenylethanol (C8H10O) are chemically aromatic, natural compounds commonly present in various botanical sources and essential oils. Structurally, eugenol is a methoxyphenol bearing an allyl side chain; its methyl ether derivative, methyl eugenol, shares a similar framework but features a methoxy group replacing the free phenolic hydroxyl group found in eugenol. 2-Phenylethanol is an aromatic alcohol comprised of a benzene ring linked to an ethanol moiety. The objective of this project was to isolate and characterize these compounds in dried rose buds using distillation followed by chromatographic and spectrometric analysis. For the experiment, a steam …

Multi-Dimensional Particle-In-Cell With Monte Carlo Collisions (Pic-Mcc) Simulation For Visualizing Plasma Flow And Secondary Ionization In Constricted-Anode Geometries, Parth Thakar Aug 2026

Multi-Dimensional Particle-In-Cell With Monte Carlo Collisions (Pic-Mcc) Simulation For Visualizing Plasma Flow And Secondary Ionization In Constricted-Anode Geometries, Parth Thakar

Discovery Day - Daytona Beach

Constricted-anode plasma sources generate locally intensified electric fields that enhance ionization near the anode, making them valuable in propulsion and laboratory plasma systems. However, the narrow geometry produces complex charge accumulation and secondary ionization effects that remain difficult to measure experimentally. To address this challenge, our research develops and applies a multi-dimensional Particle-in-Cell with Monte Carlo Collisions (PIC-MCC) simulation of a DC discharge in 1-D, 2-D, and 3-D configurations that model a constricted-anode device. PIC-MCC is a first-principles method that tracks electrons and ions individually while computing self-consistent electric fields and incorporating energy-dependent collision processes. This approach enables direct visualization …

The Algorithm Of Difference: Gender, Communication, And Perception Online, Samantha Garcia Aug 2026

The Algorithm Of Difference: Gender, Communication, And Perception Online, Samantha Garcia

Discovery Day - Daytona Beach

This in-progress independent study thesis examines how exposure to gender-targeted content on social media platforms shapes college-aged users’ perceptions of communication differences between men and women. As platforms such as TikTok and Instagram increasingly rely on algorithmic curation, users are exposed to repetitive and often polarized narratives about gender roles, dating expectations, and interpersonal communication. This study builds on genderlect theory, as introduced by Deborah Tannen, while also incorporating more contemporary perspectives that frame gender as socially constructed and culturally performed rather than biologically determined. The research addresses the question of whether algorithm-driven content reinforces, reshapes, or distorts perceived communication …

American Fascism: How Patrick Buchanan Paved The Way For Donald Trump, Hayden Cross Aug 2026

American Fascism: How Patrick Buchanan Paved The Way For Donald Trump, Hayden Cross

History in the Making

The term fascism is often thrown around to describe one’s political opponents; it constantly appears in the news and is used heavily in contemporary political conversation. However, what is fascism? Do the people espousing fascist characterizations on their political opponents know what it means? Furthermore, in the United States, there is a prevalent belief that the nation is immune to fascism. Like the ironic title of Sinclair Lewis’ novel, It Can’t Happen Here, so aptly suggests, people believe that American liberal democracy is an unmalleable constant. During Donald Trump’s second term, concerns regarding a turn to fascism in the United …

The Impact Of Technology On The Chinese Queer Community, Samantha Collasco Aug 2026

The Impact Of Technology On The Chinese Queer Community, Samantha Collasco

History in the Making

This project’s aim is to analyze the various ways in which the internet has influenced the Chinese LGBTQ+ community. The Chinese government has created an immense censorship over the community and any accompanying terms, therefore leading to their discrimination and marginalization within Chinese society. How has queer representation changed in China since the decriminalization of homosexuality? How has the internet affected the public perception of the LGBTQ+ community? What role does censorship play in the shaping of public perception of queer identities? How has westernization and globalization affected the attitudes towards queer identities? This work engages with the existing scholarship …

Revisiting The Flutie Effect: The Impact Of Collegiate Athletics On College Choice, Robin Hardin, Michelle L. Childs, Win G-Y Koo Aug 2026

Revisiting The Flutie Effect: The Impact Of Collegiate Athletics On College Choice, Robin Hardin, Michelle L. Childs, Win G-Y Koo

The COSMA Journal

This study revisits the Flutie Effect by examining factors that influence a student’s college choice which includes the role of athletics and its brand. The study assessed items related to academics, interpersonal influences, campus culture, and athletics through a survey of first-year students. An exploratory factor analysis produced a seven-factor model explaining 71.51% of the variance. The strongest factor was emotional and behavioral identification with university athletics, reflecting fandom, affiliation, and pride in athletic success. Athletics significantly influenced college choice, but their impact extends beyond athletic success to include broader dimensions of branding, fandom, and affiliation. For institutions seeking to …

Keeping The Problem Alive: Curriculum, Problematisation And The Eyfs, Claire Walsh Aug 2026

Keeping The Problem Alive: Curriculum, Problematisation And The Eyfs, Claire Walsh

Plymouth Interdisciplinary Education Open Journal

This paper explores how problems are understood in debates about England’s Early Years Foundation Stage (Department for Education [DfE], 2025). Discussions of the EYFS often focus on identifying what is wrong with it and proposing ways to improve or replace it, including both critical perspectives and alternative approaches to early childhood education. While these positions appear different, the paper argues that they share a common tendency: they treat problems as things to be solved. The paper introduces the concept of solution-binding to describe this habit.

Rather than offering another critique or alternative, the paper asks what happens if problems are …

Toward A Standard Of Identity In Ai Interaction, Brian Harber Aug 2026

Toward A Standard Of Identity In Ai Interaction, Brian Harber

Defensive Publications Series

Systems are increasingly capable of producing outputs that appear complete and actionable. These outputs are frequently evaluated as though they fully represent the processes that produced them. This paper argues that where identity is not explicit at the interaction boundary, interpretation necessarily relies on inference. Inference enables interaction but leaves residual uncertainty regarding what participated in producing that interaction.

The paper proposes identity as a structural property of interaction rather than an inferred property of behavior or presentation. It defines the interaction-boundary condition under which identity becomes relevant and examines the implications of that condition for evaluation. The contribution is …

Breaking The Parallax: Big Tech In India, Dr. Pratiksha Ashok Aug 2026

Breaking The Parallax: Big Tech In India, Dr. Pratiksha Ashok

National Law School Business Law Review

This paper examines the role of Big Tech in India through the conceptual lens of parallax, understood as the analytical distortion that arises when platform power is assessed from shifting institutional, legal, and geopolitical vantage points. Existing scholarship and policy debates tend to frame Big Tech in India either through Global North regulatory paradigms emphasizing monopoly power, market foreclosure, and the need for ex-ante constraints or through a domestic developmental narrative that positions digital platforms as engines of innovation, inclusion, and infrastructural expansion. This paper argues that neither perspective, taken in isolation, adequately captures the legal and political economy of …

Division of Cardiology Faculty Papers

Background: Heart failure (HF) represents the final common pathway of diverse cardiovascular disorders, including coronary artery disease, primary myocardial pathology, and abnormalities of cardiac conduction. These conditions arise from an interplay of genetic, environmental, and psychosocial influences, making it essential to understand these determinants to improve risk prediction and prevention. Multiple biological pathways of inflammation, fibrosis, coagulation, oxidative stress, lipid dysregulation, endothelial dysfunction, and metabolic disturbances are shaped by inherited susceptibility and modifiable exposures. Together, these mechanisms drive HF development and progression, though their relative contributions vary across populations. Methods: PubMed and Google Scholar were searched for clinical, biomedical, and …

It Takes A Community: Barbershops As Healing Spaces For Black Men, Aron Anthony King, Piri W. Ackerman, Patricia Fernandez Aug 2026

It Takes A Community: Barbershops As Healing Spaces For Black Men, Aron Anthony King, Piri W. Ackerman, Patricia Fernandez

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

Black men in the United States experience disproportionately poor mental health outcomes yet remain significantly underrepresented in accessing care. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health, African American adults are 20% more likely to report serious psychological distress and are more likely to experience feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and worthlessness compared to their white counterparts. Despite these disparities, less than half of Black men experiencing mental illness seek treatment. Intersecting factors such as racism, stigma, medical mistrust, and traditional notions of masculinity contribute to these gaps, highlighting the need for more culturally responsive …

Strategies For Successful Postgraduation Next Generation Nclex (Ngn) Preparation, Kristy P. Ludy

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

Background and Problem: In 2023, the Next Generation NCLEX (NGN) was implemented after a strategic practice analysis conducted by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) to improve evaluation of Clinical Judgment and decision-making of nursing graduates (Jessee et al., 2023; Poorman & Mastorovich, 2020). Initially, first-time pass rates (FTPRs) rose after the NGN’s implementation, but have fluctuated on national and state levels (National Council of State Boards of Nursing, 2025). Nursing faculty have been focused on preparing students for the NGN (Boev, 2023; Sturdivant & Allen-Thomas, 2022). However, becoming aware of how graduates prepare after graduation and …

Threads Across The Atlantic: A Dialogue Of Feminist Writings Between Portugal And Cape Verde, Elliana Shillig Venancio Aug 2026

Threads Across The Atlantic: A Dialogue Of Feminist Writings Between Portugal And Cape Verde, Elliana Shillig Venancio

Theses and Dissertations

This thesis examines the feminist literary traditions of Portugal and Cape Verde through a comparative analysis of Ana de Castro Osório’s Infelizes and Dina Salústio’s Mornas eram as noites. Separated by nearly nine decades and an ocean, these two works nonetheless converge in their insistence on women’s autonomy, bodily sovereignty, and resistance to patriarchal structures. Drawing on Hélène Cixous’s theory of écriture féminine and Kimberlé Crenshaw’s framework of intersectionality, this thesis argues that despite the significant differences in time, geography, and socio-political context that separate these authors, powerful threads of feminist consciousness bind their writing together. At the same time, …

“Lost In Transcription?”: A Case Study Of Using Ai And Humans-In The Loop To Create Captions And Transcripts For A Library Symposium, Eva Lu, Sonya Panangaden, Mark Weiler, Michael R. Clark

Library Publications

In many regions, academic libraries are increasingly expected to generate recorded content as part of their services and operations, such as hosting public or academic events. These recordings require quality captions and transcripts to address the needs of users with disabilities as required by human rights legislation. Unfortunately, auto-generated captions cannot be relied upon to provide error-free outputs. This paper presents a case study of how we used AI and involved 35 volunteers from across North America to create captions and transcripts for recordings of a 3-day virtual accessibility symposium. This initiative was put in place to ensure all attendees …
