Georgia International Conference on Information Literacy
One of the challenges facing librarians is getting exposure to students to teach information literacy skills. Faculty engagement with the library can vary greatly, with many faculty simply not having available class time to allow librarians in the classroom. As a possible alternative means of connecting with students, an Extra Credit Hub was created. This hub is an easily located, visible resource for faculty to share potential extra credit activities with students.
The Hub, which is a standalone Canvas course, includes a number of activities related to key information literacy skills, such as:
- Recognizing bias, misinformation, and disinformation
- Critical thinking …

BAU Journal - Science and Technology
In this article, we consider the Lord-Shulman porous-elastic system with dissipation due to microtemperature effects. First, we show that the system is exponentially stable provided that the new stability number X=0. Otherwise, we prove the lack of exponential stability under the assumption X≠0. Furthermore, in the last case, we show that the solution decays polynomially.

The Relationship Between Celebrity Worship And Psychotherapy Preferences, Sean Frydman M.S.
Selected Full Text Dissertations, 2011-
Celebrity worship (CW) is defined as an increased admiration toward a celebrity figure which may lead to excessive interest in their lives (McCutcheon et al., 2021). Intense CW has been found to be associated with a variety of pathological traits, suggesting that individuals with higher CW might benefit from psychotherapy (Sansone & Sansone, 2014). However, no research is available regarding psychotherapy preferences for this population. Research to date has found positive correlations between accommodating patients’ treatment preferences and greater treatment satisfaction and outcomes, stronger alliance, and reduced attrition (Iacoviello et al., 2007; Lindhiem et al., 2014; Swift et al., 2011, …

This conceptual analysis suggests that the practice of monkeywrenching, borrowed from environmental activism, can serve as an action by teachers to address this challenge. Monkeywrenching consists of direct action subversion, applied to curricula for the sake of specific students, and is constituted as an act of care as described by Nel Noddings. Specific consideration of sustainability education indicates that curriculum subversion through monkeywrenching can be a powerful tool in demonstrating care for place and students.
Brilliance Bias In Generative Ai, Juliana Shihadeh
Brilliance Bias In Generative Ai, Juliana Shihadeh
Engineering Ph.D. Theses
Generative AI models, like Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, and GPT have been shown to reinforce harmful biases, often perpetuating outdated and discriminatory stereotypes. This thesis examines a largely overlooked bias in AI systems: Brilliance Bias. By age six, many children begin to internalize the damaging notion that intellectual brilliance is a male trait — a belief that persists into adulthood.
This thesis consists of three studies that assess brilliance bias in generative AI. The first explores the behavior of popular text-to-image models when given intelligence-based prompts such as “brilliant” and “genius.” In particular, we seek to explore whether the models produce …

Enjoying The Golden Screen Of Asian American Representation In A Colorblind Era: Neoliberalism, Narrative, And Negotiation, Jered Mabaquiao
English Dissertations - Archive
This dissertation contributes to Asian American studies, Cinema and Media Studies, and Critical Theory by interrogating how contemporary Asian American representation is shaped by the intertwined pressures of racial politics, neoliberal market demands, and psychic life. Working across race studies, media studies, psychoanalysis, and phenomenological questions of ontology and being, the project argues that Asian American film and television cannot only be understood through the language of popular culture representation, narrative progress, media visibility, or political inclusion. Instead, I combine such angles to examine how popular culture media participates in the contradictory production of Asian American subjectivity as culturally present …
Confronting The “Green” Discourse Of Librarianship, Michael Kirby
Confronting The “Green” Discourse Of Librarianship, Michael Kirby
Publications and Research
Set against the backdrop of resurgent right-wing populism and drawing on Sam Popowich’s critique of democratic discourse in librarianship, this article outlines a crisis of imagination within liberal climate activism—particularly its essentially unquestioned commitment to “green growth,” or the notion that economic expansion can continue indefinitely alongside ecological sustainability. The American Library Association (ALA), despite its progressive public image, uncritically promotes these same market-oriented solutions to climate change and aligns itself with international treaties such as the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement, both of which are grounded in growth-centric frameworks and market mechanisms like carbon credits. These frameworks and …
