A Preliminary Volume In Progress: Interférences Linguistiques Et Culturelles Françaises En Afrique (French Linguistic And Cultural Interferences In Africa), Flavia Aiello, Maria Centrella, Anna Maria Di Tolla, Sarah N. Pinto Jan 2026

A Preliminary Volume In Progress: Interférences Linguistiques Et Culturelles Françaises En Afrique (French Linguistic And Cultural Interferences In Africa), Flavia Aiello, Maria Centrella, Anna Maria Di Tolla, Sarah N. Pinto

Faits de Langue et Société (FLS)

Drawn from the International Study Days held at the University of Naples L’Orientale (11–13 November 2021), Interférences linguistiques et culturelles françaises en Afrique brings together contributions that examine French in contact with African languages and cultures, from the Maghreb to Sub-Saharan Africa. Rather than offering a simple assessment of the “vitality” of French, the volume foregrounds interference phenomena and everyday practices (code-switching, lexical borrowing, and lexical innovation), alongside social representations and educational and media-related stakes. It therefore provides an interdisciplinary perspective on multilingual dynamics and processes of appropriation at the heart of contemporary African societies.

Abject Futures: The (Re)Negotiation Of Nafta And The Canadian Power Elite, Dean Ray

Fast Capitalism

This paper draws upon the critical political economy tradition in Canada to examine the renegotiation of NAFTA and the class interests at work in the final agreement. It draws on a range of ethnographic and media sources in its argumentation. The paper provides a comprehensive review of Canadian Political Economy before it turns to the negotiation and the actions of Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland. It is argued that Freeland was adept at appearance management and manipulating media presentations of herself to make the negotiation seem more laboured then it was. In the end, the agreement protected Canada's crown jewel, …

Neoliberal Fascism As The Endpoint Of Casino Capitalism, Henry Giroux Jan 2026

Neoliberal Fascism As The Endpoint Of Casino Capitalism, Henry Giroux

Fast Capitalism

This article explores neoliberal fascism as a distinctive political formation within the current historical moment. In doing so, it first analyzes neoliberalism as a project that has since the 1970s destroyed all the commanding institutions of democracy while consolidating power in the hands of a financial elite. In addition, it analyzes neoliberalism as a movement, that produces and legitimates massive economic inequality and suffering, privatizes public goods, dismantles essential government agencies, and individualizes all social problems. Under such circumstances, neoliberalism creates the conditions for right wing extremists to mobilize the anger of white disenfranchised working class populations by both appealing …

Effectiveness Of A Health Literacy Program For Enhancing Self-Care Behavior And Diabetes Prevention Among Pre-Diabetic Buddhist Monks In Upper Northeastern Thailand, Supattra Noo-In, Thidarat Somdee, Chitkamon Srichomphoo, Jirarat Ruetrakul, Chaloemporn Namyota, Le Ke Nghiep, Santisith Khiewkhern

Journal of Health Research

Background: Buddhist monks in Thailand experience distinctive lifestyle constraints—such as dependence on alms-based diets and restrictions on strenuous physical activity—that heighten their vulnerability to type 2 diabetes. This study examined the effectiveness of a structured health literacy program in improving diabetes-preventive self-care behaviors among pre-diabetic Buddhist monks in upper northeastern Thailand.

Methods: A quasi-experimental study was conducted with 72 pre-diabetic monks, evenly allocated to intervention and comparison groups. The intervention group completed a 24-week structured health literacy program. Health literacy and self-care behaviors were assessed using validated questionnaires before and after the intervention, and the data were analyzed using descriptive …

This study aimed to develop and validate such a tool, named the Universal Health Coverage Literacy Scale for the Thai Context (UHCL:TH).

Methods: A two-phase cross-sectional study design was employed. Phase 1 involved a literature review and identification of the tool’s key components through a two-round Modified Delphi Method process conducted with 19 multidisciplinary experts. Phase 2 focused on tool development and validation. Reliability was tested with 60 participants. Exploratory …

System For Ai-Driven Ui Control Via A Hardware Actuator Emulating A Human Interface Device, Shashwat Razdan Jan 2026

System For Ai-Driven Ui Control Via A Hardware Actuator Emulating A Human Interface Device, Shashwat Razdan

Defensive Publications Series

The ability of intelligent agents to perform complex, cross-application tasks may be constrained by a dependency on application-specific programming interfaces (APIs), which can limit interaction with user interfaces and adaptation to dynamic visual changes. A system can employ a closed-loop perception-action cycle where a multimodal intelligent agent analyzes visual data from a screen of a host device, such as a smartphone or computer, to predict a next action. A control application can translate this action into a sequence of low-level human interface device events. A peripheral hardware actuator device may receive these events and inject them into the host device's …
