Community College Library Digital Branches And Their Communities, Helen Cozart Feb 2026

Community College Library Digital Branches And Their Communities, Helen Cozart

SLIS Connecting

Community Colleges have long been a staple of American life. They offer an affordable education that is transferable to a four-year school or certification in a trade. Since they are in the community, costs can be further lowered by allowing traditional students to live at home and non-traditional students to be with their families and workplaces (Princeton Review, n.d.). Many community colleges actively engage with their communities, encouraging attendance and offering community enrichment programs. Community college libraries can occupy a powerful position in this relationship, creating an environment for the public that is inviting and encouraging through their physical offerings …

Beyond The Tropes: Viewing The Horror Genre Through The Lens Of Bipoc Readers, Kimberly Wade Feb 2026

Beyond The Tropes: Viewing The Horror Genre Through The Lens Of Bipoc Readers, Kimberly Wade

SLIS Connecting

Horror novels have been and continue to grow in popularity among all age demographics in the United States. According to a 2020 Book Ad Report study, horror novels were the fifth highest-grossing genre, topping $79.6 million in 2020 (Herold, 2019, para. 16). With the growing popularity of horror novels within the market, authors and publishers have pushed for inclusion and diversity in who is writing the material, who is reading the books, and who is represented within the pages. This drive to include “Black, Indigenous, People of Color” (BIPOC) and other diverse authors and characters is necessary in allowing young …

Tattoo Archives: A Collection Analysis, Jennifer Neville Feb 2026

Tattoo Archives: A Collection Analysis, Jennifer Neville

SLIS Connecting

Tattooing and body modification have been a part of human existence for thousands of years. Although for much of the 20th century, tattoos in America were seen as part of a subculture, in the late 20th century and into the 21st, they gained popularity and more widespread cultural acceptance. Despite the historical lack of mainstream acceptance, tattooing has a wide and varied history. Tattooing was and remains important to many indigenous people, it has always been popular within the military, especially during wartime, and it has a fascinating place in sideshow history. Even though many people now wear tattoos, the …

Miss Me With That Misinformation: A Content Analysis Of Library Websites’ Resources Against Misinformation, Cheyenne Brady Feb 2026

Miss Me With That Misinformation: A Content Analysis Of Library Websites’ Resources Against Misinformation, Cheyenne Brady

SLIS Connecting

From the C.R.A.A.P. test to webinars and videos on how to fact-check properly, it is now more important than ever that librarians aid patrons in sharpening their critical analysis skills, especially through passive means. However, on that front, are all library websites created equal? This research examined programming and resources related to information and digital literacy through a content analysis of public and academic library websites.

Comparing Library Websites At Four-Year Public Universities In Arkansas, Alice Bessette Feb 2026

Comparing Library Websites At Four-Year Public Universities In Arkansas, Alice Bessette

SLIS Connecting

From accessibility to website architecture and everything in between, academic libraries can have a profound impact on the students of their institutions. Simmonds and Andaleeb (2001) argue that academic libraries are “the heart of the learning community” (p. 626). They go on to explain that the support librarians offer students and staff is vital to the community’s search for knowledge. Reitz (2017) said a variation of this as well, stating that academic libraries are “integral” parts of the institutions they support. In an increasingly digital world, websites serve as primary entry points for individuals looking to access their college or …

When Nutrition Fails: Modeling Protein Malnutrition-Driven Vulnerability In Hepatic Drug Metabolism And Inflammatory Stress, Vijitha D. Kantety, Victor Jiminez Jr. Feb 2026

When Nutrition Fails: Modeling Protein Malnutrition-Driven Vulnerability In Hepatic Drug Metabolism And Inflammatory Stress, Vijitha D. Kantety, Victor Jiminez Jr.

Annual Research Symposium

Background

Protein malnutrition remains a major global health problem and frequently co-occurs with alcohol use, opioid exposure, and infectious disease, particularly in low- and middle-income settings. The liver is central to both metabolism and inflammatory regulation, yet the effects of a malnutrition-like nutrient environment on hepatic responses to combined metabolic and inflammatory insults are not well defined. Cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4), a key enzyme involved in opioid metabolism, is highly sensitive to inflammatory signaling and may be especially vulnerable under conditions of nutritional deficiency. This project aims to 1) develop an in vitro model of nutritionally competent versus amino acid–restricted …

External-Facing Conversational Artificial Intelligence System For Partner Content Management, Shanmukha Priya Mallavarapu, Dev Shimulbhai Daftari, Akash Verma

Defensive Publications Series

Traditional management of media content (e.g., television shows, movies, short form videos, etc.) provided by content partners (e.g., production studios, individual content producers, etc.) may rely on applications with interfaces that include manual dashboards and complex application programming interfaces (APIs) that require a user of the application to have sufficient technical expertise to understand, use, and navigate the interfaces. These interfaces may be rigid and may not support natural language interaction for managing media content lifecycles.

The disclosed technology provides an artificial intelligence system that includes a conversational artificial intelligence portal that interfaces with system and security services to enable …

Enhancing Training For Law Enforcement In Mental Health Responses In The Community, Tiffany Raines Feb 2026

Enhancing Training For Law Enforcement In Mental Health Responses In The Community, Tiffany Raines

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

A significant issue in human services practice in Macon, Georgia, is law enforcement officers’ responding to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis in public. Many police officers are not equipped to handle situations involving individuals experiencing mental health events, leading to possible adverse outcomes such as injury, incarceration, or even fatalities. There are increasing rates of mental illness disorders, and therefore, the need for compassionate, informed approaches for human service professionals to respond to those in crisis. More training to improve responses can lead to better outcomes for individuals in crisis, foster community trust in law enforcement, and enhance overall …

Eco-Friendly Adsorption Of Rhodamine B Dye Using Dragon Fruit Seeds From Foodstuffs, J. N. Gari, Z. M. Saigl Feb 2026

Eco-Friendly Adsorption Of Rhodamine B Dye Using Dragon Fruit Seeds From Foodstuffs, J. N. Gari, Z. M. Saigl

The Journal of King Abdulaziz University: Science

The study aims to remove Rhodamine B (RhB) dye from environmental samples using dragon fruit seeds (DFS) as a potential and efficient biosorbent. Several batch experiments were systematically performed over set intervals to assess how variables such as contact time, temperature, pH, adsorbent dosage, and initial dye concentration influence dye removal performance. To better understand the characteristics of DFS, its surface morphology and chemical composition were investigated using analytical tools like FTIR, EDX, and SEM. The results indicated the adsorption happened quickly within 10 minutes of contact as equilibrium was achieved. The most effective extraction of dye was achieved at …
