Introduction To Vaccine Misinformation, Samah Fayaz Feb 2026

Introduction To Vaccine Misinformation, Samah Fayaz

Undergraduate Research and Engagement Symposium

The presentation will examine how misinformation, selective data use, and social media chambers influence public attitude towards vaccines. The hesitancy in vaccine has become a very growing concern in public health. By analyzing such factors, the project will reveal how these tactics deepen vaccine denial and play their part in science denial. Understanding this information will allow there to be improvements and rebuild confidence in not only vaccines but also scientific information.

Misinformation In The Digital Age: How Social Media Fuels Science Denial And Ways To Stop It, Jocelyn Morales Feb 2026

Misinformation In The Digital Age: How Social Media Fuels Science Denial And Ways To Stop It, Jocelyn Morales

Undergraduate Research and Engagement Symposium

This paper examines how social media platforms contribute to the spread of science denial and explores strategies to combat misinformation. The rise of digital platforms such as Twitter (now X) and Facebook has transformed how information is shared, but it has also created fertile ground for the rapid diffusion of false or misleading content. Research by Harman et al. (2025) demonstrates that science denial has far-reaching social consequences, delaying policy responses, undermining collective action, and increasing societal vulnerability. Lanier et al. (2022) further reveal how hashtags like #plandemic and #scamdemic on Twitter amplified COVID-19 misinformation, fueling pandemic denial and anti-public-health …

Manufacturing Doubt: How The Conservative Movement Shaped American Climate Denial, Bjorn Anderson

Undergraduate Research and Engagement Symposium

The American conservative movement has used its power to spread climate change denial through organizational infrastructure, psychological exploitation, and sustained messaging campaigns, producing measurable polarization in public opinion. I reference articles which document the organizational infrastructure of the movement, which study psychological mechanisms that explain conservative receptiveness to climate denial, and which detail the resulting shift in societal beliefs through data analysis and polling. These sources establish a relationship between the deliberate campaign from corporations and conservative leaders and resulting increases in climate change denial.

Recommendation Report: Campus Transportation, Sujaan Vhora, Prachi Patel, Liliana Drobny, Camilla Gorokhova, Matthew Zimmerman

Undergraduate Research and Engagement Symposium

Our group examined transportation challenges between Loyola University Chicago’s Lake Shore Campus and Water Tower Campus from a student perspective. Through a student survey, an interview with a Campus Transportation staff member, and research on other Chicago universities, we found that shuttle delays, unpredictable travel times, and limited parking create stress and cause students to arrive late or miss activities. We evaluated three possible solutions: improved transportation communication, expanded parking partnerships, and an upgraded UPass+. We recommend UPass+ supported by clearer communication to give students more reliable travel options, reduce parking pressure, and improve the overall commuting experience.

Enhancing Learning With Ai: The ‘Icing On The Cake’ Approach, Ejike Okonkwo Feb 2026

Enhancing Learning With Ai: The ‘Icing On The Cake’ Approach, Ejike Okonkwo

Essays in Education

Drawing on a narrative review based on inductive thematic analysis, this paper examines the expanding role of artificial intelligence (AI) in education. The analysis shows that while AI offers useful educational benefits, they often come into conflict with concerns about how AI affects learning, including risks of overreliance and potential constraints on learners’ critical thinking and creative capacities. Consequently, the paper develops the “icing on the cake” conceptual framework, which conceptualizes AI adoption as non-linear and positions AI as a complementary tool rather than a substitute for human learning. The framework is grounded in reflection, metacognition, and skill development, and …

Faculty Research 2026

Microglia critically shape neuronal circuit development and function, yet their region-specific properties and roles in distinct circuits of the human brain remain poorly understood. In this study, we generated region-specific brain organoids (cortical, striatal, and midbrain), each integrated with human microglia, to fill this critical gap. Single-cell RNA sequencing uncovered six distinct microglial subtypes exhibiting unique regional signatures, including a subtype highly enriched for the GABAB receptor gene within striatal organoids. To investigate the contributions of microglia to neural circuitry, we created microglia-incorporated midbrain-striatal assembloids, modeling a core circuit node for many neuropsychiatric disorders, including autism. Using chemogenetics to …

Eurydice, Sarah Ruhl Feb 2026

Eurydice, Sarah Ruhl

Taylor Theatre Playbills

The playbill for Taylor University's performance of Eurydice by Sarah Ruhl.

Performed February 20-22, 2026 and February 27-March 1, 2026 in the Mitchell Theatre at Taylor University.

Eurydice, written by Sarah Ruhl, retells teh familiar myth of Orpheus - but this time, the story unfolds from Eurydice's perspective. That shift matters. Instead of centering heroic rescue, the play centers interior experience: grief as it is felt, memory as it flickers, love as it is complicated by loyalty, doubt, and longing. By allowing Eurydice to be the narrative voice, the play asks us to inhabit loss from the inside rather …

The Role Of 15-Minute Cities In Promoting Sustainable Urban Development: A Stakeholder-Centered Project Management Approach, Pamela O. Nkwantabisah Feb 2026

The Role Of 15-Minute Cities In Promoting Sustainable Urban Development: A Stakeholder-Centered Project Management Approach, Pamela O. Nkwantabisah

Harrisburg University Dissertations and Theses

The 15-minute city is an innovative urban planning approach that aims to enhance sustainability, accessibility, and quality of life by placing essential services within a 15-minute walk or cycle radius. Despite its popularity globally, the majority of projects fail to realize their objective due to ineffective stakeholder engagement, competing priorities, and inadequate communication throughout the project procedure. This study addresses the urgent problem of limited stakeholder involvement in 15-minute city planning and implementation. The purpose of the study is to determine challenges of stakeholder engagement and develop a stakeholder-centric approach rooted in project management best practices. Guided by the Stakeholder …

Why We Must Commune: Rethinking The Role Of Marketing Communications In Turbulent Times, Javier Garcia Feb 2026

Why We Must Commune: Rethinking The Role Of Marketing Communications In Turbulent Times, Javier Garcia

Publications and Research

“Communications” is often thought of as a noun, representing the messages we receive on a daily basis from people, brands, and institutions alike.

"Communications" is also often associated with an industry that exists to produce such messaging in service of capitalism, with a commercial or otherwise actionable outcome desired from its receiving audience.

This presentation, hosted by two-time CCNY graduate and senior marketing communications professional and Assistant Professor Javier Garcia, will examine the urgency and opportunity in rethinking the value and study of marketing and communications.

In his presentation, Professor Garcia will offer suggestions on how to guide students towards …

The Ballot Question: Citizen Initiatives, Institutions, And The Policy Process, Ty Rhoads Feb 2026

The Ballot Question: Citizen Initiatives, Institutions, And The Policy Process, Ty Rhoads

Dissertations

State-level policymaking remains undertheorized relative to its federal counterpart, particularly in states where institutionalized direct democracy creates a parallel channel for policy change outside the legislature. This dissertation develops a novel theoretical framework for the state policy process by adapting punctuated equilibrium theory to American state politics, integrating it with party cartel theory and the concept of legislative policy monopolies. The central argument is that citizen initiatives and legislative referrals are structurally distinct policy venues whose ideological profiles, policy magnitudes, and electoral dynamics are systematically shaped by the partisan context of the legislature. Using Missouri as a case study spanning …

Social Support And Mental Toughness As Predictors Of Perceived Stress Among College Kinesiology Students, Jianmin Guan, Wan Xiang Yao, Xiaofen D. Hamilton, Gaofeng Lu Feb 2026

Social Support And Mental Toughness As Predictors Of Perceived Stress Among College Kinesiology Students, Jianmin Guan, Wan Xiang Yao, Xiaofen D. Hamilton, Gaofeng Lu

International Journal of Physical Activity and Health

Drawing on Lazarus and Folkman’s transactional theory of stress and coping, this study examined the associations of age, gender, three types of social support (family, friends, and significant others), and mental toughness with two dimensions of perceived stress (helplessness and coping inefficacy) among 666 college students majoring in Kinesiology. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis revealed that male college students, as well as those with higher levels of mental toughness and family support, reported significantly lower levels of helplessness and coping inefficacy in managing stress. Additionally, greater support from friends was significantly associated with lower levels of coping inefficacy, while younger students …

Opportunities And Challenges In Synthetic Biology For Manufacture Of Bulk Chemicals, Xiaolin Shen, Qipeng Yuan

Bulletin of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Chinese Version)

Traditional chemical manufacturing, reliant on fossil resources, meets material demands but faces challenges such as resource depletion, environmental pollution, and carbon emissions. This underscores the urgent need for a shift towards green and sustainable production methods. Biomanufacturing, which uses renewable resources to produce chemicals, offers a promising pathway for the chemical industry’s green transition. In recent years, biomanufacturing has emerged as a key area of global attention. Through synthetic biology, bulk chemicals like 1,3-propanediol have been successfully produced. Nevertheless, biomanufacturing of bulk chemicals still faces significant challenges, including high costs, low efficiency, and limited scalability. This is particularly true for …
