Making Sense Of And Responding To The Good And Bad Within Psychology: Common Grace And Antithesis As Tools For Psychology, Tyler Greenway, Cory B. Wilson

University Faculty Publications and Creative Works

As psychologists and students of psychology make sense of and respond to the good and bad within human behavior and its study, theological tools benefit their discernment. This paper presents two Neocalvinist theological concepts — common grace and antithesis — as tools for psychologists. These concepts help psychologists recognize God’s common gifts to humanity while also identifying what must be corrected. Such applications benefit psychologists in clinical cases and as they consider theoretical frameworks. When used together, these tools encourage us to anticipate both the true, good, and beautiful things in the world and the need at times for redirection. …

Amazon rainforests face intensifying water stress due to increases in vapour pressure deficit and changing hydrological regimes. Embolism resistance (Ψ50) is a critical metric of tree survival under drought conditions, it is defined as a plant’s capacity to resist disruption of xylem water flow due to air bubble formation from water stress. However, measurements of Ψ50 are only available for a limited number of Amazon locations and species. Conversely, data on forest taxonomic composition are abundant across Amazonia, and if Ψ50 is conserved phylogenetically, these data could provide a way to scale-up drought resistance patterns. Here …

Department of Medicine Faculty Papers

HIV infection remains a major global health challenge due to its complex pathogenesis and lifelong persistence in people living with HIV (PLWH). A central barrier to eradication is the virus's ability to establish long-lived latent reservoirs in different tissues, including the central nervous system (CNS), where it evades immune clearance and antiretroviral therapy (ART). These reservoirs, seeded early during infection, fuel viral rebound if ART is interrupted, requiring lifelong treatment. In the CNS, HIV persists despite systemic viral suppression because of limited ART penetration across the blood-brain barrier (BBB), and infection of long-lived cells such as microglia and perivascular macrophages. …

Bridging The Intention-Implementation Divide In Generative Ai Adoption: An Integrated Model Of Psychological, Behavioral And Social Drivers, Mohamed Walid Mohamed Lotfy Abdallah Feb 2026

Bridging The Intention-Implementation Divide In Generative Ai Adoption: An Integrated Model Of Psychological, Behavioral And Social Drivers, Mohamed Walid Mohamed Lotfy Abdallah

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This dissertation examines the gap between professionals’ intentions to use Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) and their actual adoption behavior in workplace settings. Although Generative AI offers substantial potential to improve efficiency and performance, concerns about control, misuse and organizational risk have led to inconsistencies between intended and enacted use. Motivated by this misalignment, the study investigates the psychological, behavioral and social mechanisms that shape the intention-implementation divide. Drawing on an integrated framework combining the Theory of Planned Behavior and the Technology Acceptance Model, alongside personality traits, the research conceptualizes adoption as a phase-specific process involving evaluative, motivational and volitional components. …

Sensi-Train: Context-Aware Sensitive Content Detection Using Transformers And Large Language Models, Nazeefa Muzammil Feb 2026

Sensi-Train: Context-Aware Sensitive Content Detection Using Transformers And Large Language Models, Nazeefa Muzammil

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The detection of sensitive content has become a critical task in natural language processing due to the widespread use of online platforms and the social harm caused by it. Even though current methods have advanced significantly, many of them mainly rely on surface-level text and neglect to take into consideration contextual and cultural elements that are crucial for correctly assessing sensitivity of any content to a particular individual. Due to this, implicit offense, sarcasm, and culturally grounded expressions frequently cause problems for such systems. To enable culturally grounded sensitive content detection, this thesis presents Sensi-Train, a context-rich dataset and modeling …

Decyl Caffeate Inhibits The Proliferation Of Human Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Cells, Che-Yi Chao, Woei-Cheang Shyu, Chih-Lung Lin, En-Pei Isabel Chiang, Yueh-Hsiung Kuo, Feng-Yao Tang

BioMedicine

Background: Over recent decades, considerable attention has been directed toward the discovery of novel compounds capable of targeting survival-related signaling networks as therapeutic candidates for triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). Central to TNBC pathobiology are the Akt/mTOR and MAPK/ERK signaling axes, both contribute to tumor progression and therapeutic resistance. Caffeic acid (CA), a naturally derived phenolic compound with anti-inflammatory activity, has previously been investigated for its anti-cancer potential. Purpose: In the present study, we explored the therapeutic value of newly synthesized CA derivatives in TNBC models using both cellular and animal-based systems. Methods: The anti-tumor efficacy of these CA derivatives was …

Teachers’ Views On The Relevance Of Local Wisdom Values In Strengthening Students’ Character Education, Fatkhurozqi Razaq, Oktaviani Adhi Suciptaningsih, Aynin Mashfufah

Jurnal Pendidikan Humaniora

The digital era has had a dual impact on basic education, where technological advances are often accompanied by cultural erosion and moral degradation among students. The increase in bullying cases and the decline in manners indicate that conventional character education has not been able to effectively filter the negative influences of globalization. This study aims to explore the perception of urgency and pedagogical strategies of elementary school teachers in integrating local wisdom values into character-building learning. The research method used was descriptive qualitative, involving ten elementary school teachers as participants selected through purposive sampling. Data collection was carried out using …

Hermeneutic Reconstruction Of The Role Of Community In The Learning Ecology, Qoriah Rahmawati, Aceng Hasani, Erwin Salpariansi Feb 2026

Hermeneutic Reconstruction Of The Role Of Community In The Learning Ecology, Qoriah Rahmawati, Aceng Hasani, Erwin Salpariansi

Jurnal Pendidikan Humaniora

Community is often treated as an external support for schools, which makes its role in learning ecology conceptually peripheral and weakly integrated into explanations of learning across contexts. This study aims to reconstruct the role of community within the learning ecology so that it is positioned as a constitutive dimension of learning alongside school and family. The study used a systematic literature review of 62 publications, followed by narrative meta-analysis and philosophical-hermeneutic interpretation within the Triad Human Learning Ecology framework. The results show a school-centered tendency in the literature, while community is more frequently framed as contextual support than as …

Resilience Of Nationalism Among Acehnese Youth In The Global Era: A Qualitative Study From Civics Teachers' Perspectives, Roni Hidayat

Jurnal Pendidikan Humaniora

This study investigates how schools can strengthen the resilience of nationalism among Acehnese youth in the global era, with particular attention to post-conflict social conditions and rapid cultural change. Previous studies on nationalism in the era of globalization have generally emphasized Pancasila values or single-school interventions, but fewer studies have examined how teachers conceptualize and operationalize nationalism resilience in schools across Aceh. The study used a descriptive qualitative design with a multi-site school perspective. Participants were 10 Civics Education (PPKn) teachers from senior high schools in Aceh Province, selected purposively based on teaching role and experience. Data were collected through …

The participants were 39 students from Grade IV and Grade V who were assigned to groups based on existing class membership. The program was developed from Davis's empathy framework (perspective-taking, fantasy, empathic concern, and personal distress), and empathy was measured using an Interpersonal Reactivity Index based scale adapted for elementary students. Data were analyzed using a mixed-design ANOVA. The findings showed a significant time-by-group interaction, and the experimental group demonstrated a significant increase …
