Encouraging A United Response: A Systematic Review And Mixed-Methods Collaborative Evaluation Of Co-Responder Model Effectiveness In Florida, Kelsey Greenfield

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Even before the deinstitutionalization movement caused the influx of state hospital patients into communities ill-prepared to navigate their needs, law enforcement has been responsible for responding to persons in crisis (PIC) due to mental illness. In response to the high rates of incarceration for persons with mental illness (PMI), a growing number of law enforcement agencies have adopted diversion strategies referred to as police-mental health collaboration (PMHC) models to divert PMI away from the criminal justice system and towards community mental health services. Despite nearly forty years of research, there are still considerable knowledge gaps regarding who benefits from PMHCs …

DLSU Senior High School Research Congress Conference Proceedings

Historical research documents feminism's evolution from 19th-century suffrage movements to modern intersectional approaches. Though there are gaps in understanding how personal experiences and contexts, such as cultural and socio-economic, influence current feminist practice. This study investigates how lived experiences shape contemporary feminist engagement in Baguio City, Philippines. Using a descriptive phenomenological analysis of face-to-face interviews with a total of nine participants, the study identifies the following: results reveal generational divides, with younger participants developing progressive, digitally-informed feminist consciousness, while economic realities constrain activist participation for marginalized groups. Practical manifestations of feminism emerge through four daily practices: (1) conscious use of …

Reshaping Library Programming For Graduate Students Through Strategic Partnerships And Adaptation, Brian Vetruba, Caroyn Bishoff, Kate Peterson

Transforming Libraries for Graduate Students

In the wake of Covid-19, support structures dedicated to graduate student success at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities (UMN) underwent dramatic shifts. Centralized in-person events for graduate students were discontinued, departmental identities strengthened, and library outreach responsibilities were reshaped by institutional changes, including a reduction of library staff. This panel examines how academic libraries can adapt and innovate with decreased capacity to meet the diverse needs of graduate students. Panelists will share strategies for expanding campus partnerships and sustaining and scaling initiatives that equip graduate students – especially first-year, international, and BIPOC students – with essential research skills and …

Teacher Shortages Are Not Myths But Misinformed: A Review, Marissa R. Bamberger, Benjamin Creed Mar 2026

Teacher Shortages Are Not Myths But Misinformed: A Review, Marissa R. Bamberger, Benjamin Creed

Mid-Western Educational Researcher

Background

The United States has faced teacher shortages for decades with the consequence being under-qualified individuals hired as teachers who negatively impact the education of many students, especially those students who are most disadvantaged. Recently, the media has increasingly covered teacher shortages with claims that the teacher shortage is overblown or a myth.

Purpose

Therefore, the purpose of this narrative review is to examine the academic and popular media articles published on this supposed teacher shortage myth to determine (1) the conditions that contribute to the endorsement of a teacher shortage myth and (2) the faulty arguments that support the …

The Paradox Of Appropriation: A History Of Media Technology And Propaganda In Rwanda, 1900–1964, Claudia Brown Mar 2026

The Paradox Of Appropriation: A History Of Media Technology And Propaganda In Rwanda, 1900–1964, Claudia Brown

Journal of Global Catholicism

Scholars of the 1994 Rwandan genocide agree that media technology and propaganda played a role in mobilizing ordinary Rwandans in 1994 to commit genocide. Underappreciated in these inquiries is the history of the introduction of media technology and propaganda in Rwandan society by missionaries, technologies Rwandans later appropriated and applied to a pursuit of self-determination, but also in support of perpetrating genocide. A close examination of the social and political context of Rwanda’s colonial era and Catholic evangelism reveals a variety of motives for adopting propaganda as a strategy for evangelizing and rallying support for decolonization. This article casts light …

“Enslavement By Unbridled Passions:” Catholic Magisterial Institutional Attitudes Toward Homosexuals In Poland Between 1945 And 1989, Agnieszka Laddach Mar 2026

“Enslavement By Unbridled Passions:” Catholic Magisterial Institutional Attitudes Toward Homosexuals In Poland Between 1945 And 1989, Agnieszka Laddach

Journal of Global Catholicism

During Communism, the Polish bishops presented a narrative about (homo)sexuality with in order to create the image of a righteous moral and social life that was to influence the Catholics. In my research I conduced a thematic analysis of this narrative. I highlight the doctrinal and Polish social-religious context to foreground tendencies in the formation of Church teaching about homosexuality as well as the importance of the Church in Poland to its formation. Then, I show the factors that characterize the episcopal discourse’s content and language about homosexuality, recognizing that components of episcopal discourse suggest a specificity of Church potential …

The False Promise Of Progressive Originalism, Michael Smith Mar 2026

The False Promise Of Progressive Originalism, Michael Smith

New Mexico Law Review

As the conservative-dominated Supreme Court continues to accrue its power, commentators on both the political right and left suggest that those pursuing progressive policy goals would do well to turn to originalist methodology. Many of the Justices on the Court purport to be originalists, and progressive originalist arguments are more likely to appeal to this otherwise tough crowd. Haven’t progressives heard that we’re all originalists now? I argue that originalism’s appeal to progressives is largely illusory. Originalism is unlikely to make a difference before a Court controlled by a supermajority of conservative Justices who exercise discretion over the interpretive methodology …

Generalizing Networks To Address Data Imbalance For Facial Action Unit Recognition, Andrew W. Sumsion Mar 2026

Generalizing Networks To Address Data Imbalance For Facial Action Unit Recognition, Andrew W. Sumsion

Theses and Dissertations

Facial action unit (AU) recognition is used in a variety of downstream applications, including sign language translation, dementia detection, pain detection, and other high-impact tasks that require understanding facial motion. Although AU recognition is a well-established field, a number of unresolved issues remain. An initial problem is the need to improve overall performance on the benchmark datasets, as measured by the average F1 score. Also, the performance across all individual AUs, not just the average F1 score, needs to be increased. Recently, the field has shifted its attention towards ensuring that AU recognition models generalize beyond the distributions represented in …

Exploring The Influence Of Environmental Motivations On Consumer Attitudes And Purchase Intentions Toward Upcycled Foods, Peng Lu, Jennifer Waldeck, Keith Weber, Hualu Zhou Mar 2026

Exploring The Influence Of Environmental Motivations On Consumer Attitudes And Purchase Intentions Toward Upcycled Foods, Peng Lu, Jennifer Waldeck, Keith Weber, Hualu Zhou

Communication Faculty Articles and Research

Food loss and waste (FLW) present pressing environmental and economic challenges. Upcycling technologies provide a sustainable pathway by transforming food by-products into value-added products; however, consumer acceptance remains a critical barrier. Guided by Self-Determination Theory (SDT), this study investigates how environmental motivations influence consumers’ attitudes and purchase intentions toward milk enriched with upcycled peanut skins. Data were collected from a nationally representative sample of 1488 U.S. adults. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was employed to test hypothesized relationships among motivational constructs, and cluster analysis was used to identify consumer segments based on motivational profiles. The results show that intrinsic motivation and …

New Viability Assays For Acanthamoeba Castellanii Trophozoites And Cysts Allow Rapid Assessment Of Drug Activity., Carrie A Flynn, Rebecca I Colón-Ríos, Andrew Harmez, William F Flynn, Barbara I Kazmierczak

Faculty Research 2026

Pathogenic free-living amoebae such as Acanthamoeba castellanii are present in soil and water worldwide. A. castellanii causes systemic infections with very high mortality rates, yet drugs specifically targeting this pathogen are not available. Methods to reliably generate and assay cysts, which drive infection recurrence and drug resistance, are unavailable in a high-throughput format suitable for drug screening and testing. In this study, we developed a robust and reproducible protocol for encysting A. castellanii as well as a high-throughput, quantitative cyst viability assay using fluorescent live/dead staining coupled with microscopy and automated image analysis. These methods, coupled with optimized techniques for …

Polytechnic Journal

This study evaluates the petroleum generating potential of the Middle-Late Jurassic Sargelu and Naokelekan Formations across distinct tectonic zones in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq. Source rock quality is assessed through geochemical analyses of organic matter (OM) quantity, type, thermal maturity, and key factors influencing hydro-carbon generation. Rock-Eval pyrolysis was performed on outcrop samples from five sections located within the Imbricated and High Folded Zones of the Zagros Fold-Thrust Belt. Results demonstrate significant variability in total organic carbon (TOC) content, hydro-carbon generation potential (as reflected by S1, S2, and genetic potential values.), and kerogen types across these zones. The Sargelu and …

Contextualized Divergence Detection In Health Advice: A Benchmark And Analysis, Reet Kothari Mar 2026

Contextualized Divergence Detection In Health Advice: A Benchmark And Analysis, Reet Kothari

Dartmouth College Master’s Theses

Large language models (LLMs) are increasingly used as sources of health advice, raising urgent concerns about reliability, safety, and personalization. While prior work has studied health advice conflicts, these efforts typically ignore patient context and treat contradictions as universal. In this paper, we propose the task of contextualized divergence detection, which frames divergence not only as strict contradictions but also as context-dependent mismatches. To support this task, we introduce a novel dataset of 10,545 samples that combines user profiles, consumer medication guideline documents, and advice statements, with divergences synthetically generated across four categories: direct, conditional, temporal, and sub-typical. We benchmark …

People with Phelan–McDermid syndrome (PMS) have reduced speech and language abilities, yet little research has profiled the communication abilities in this population. The purpose of this study was threefold: identifying the language and communication profiles of school-aged children with PMS, identifying genetic contributions to language and communication abilities, and determining the feasibility of remote data collection for research purposes. A speech language pathologist used standardized assessments and direct evaluations by video conferencing to evaluate language and communication abilities. Sixteen children and adolescents were evaluated: 5 with SHANK3 pathogenic variants, 9 with 22q13 deletions including SHANK3 (PMS-SHANK3 related), and 2 …

Tusqh: Topological Control Of Volume-Fraction Meshes Near Small Features And Dirty Geometry, Brian Reese Shawcroft Mar 2026

Tusqh: Topological Control Of Volume-Fraction Meshes Near Small Features And Dirty Geometry, Brian Reese Shawcroft

Theses and Dissertations

This work develops a framework to create meshes with user-specified homology from potentially dirty geometry by coupling background grids, persistent homology, and a generalization of volume fractions. For a mesh with fixed grid size, the topology of the output mesh changes predictably and monotonically as its volume-fraction threshold decreases. Topological anti-aliasing methods are introduced to resolve pinch points and disconnected regions that are artifacts of user choice of grid size and orientation, making the output meshes suitable for downstream processes including analysis. The methodology is demonstrated on geographical, mechanical, and graphics models in two-dimensions (2D) and three-dimensions (3D) using a …

Emergent Patterns In Individual Perceptions Of Domestic Violence Among African Immigrants, Annah Ezuma Mar 2026

Emergent Patterns In Individual Perceptions Of Domestic Violence Among African Immigrants, Annah Ezuma

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Domestic abuse continues to be a prevalent and intricate matter within society, frequently concealed by silence. The comprehension of individuals’ perceptions of abuse is of utmost importance in the advancement of efficacious interventions and support systems. Among African immigrants in the United States, perceptions of domestic violence were often influenced by several factors like religion and migration stressors. Despite increasing concerns about abuse within this population, limited research has explored how they interpret abuse and how these perceptions shape help seeking behaviors and disclosure. The gap was significant because of the cultural transition and many immigrant experiences. This qualitative study …

Young Granite Staters Wary Of Prediction Markets, Older Residents Unaware 3/17/2026, Unh Survey Center

All UNH Survey Center Polls

Few Granite Staters have participated in prediction markets and nearly half of state residents have never heard of them. However, three-quarters of those under 35 have at least heard of prediction markets and a majority say they understand how they work. Granite Staters believe it should be legal to bet on sports using prediction markets but think it should be illegal to bet on elections, the economy, or political events like war. A plurality are unsure about the federal government regulating prediction markets, with those on the political left in favor of more regulation. Nearly two-thirds of Granite Staters under …
