The purpose of the paper is to analyze the efficacy of these disposition assessment tools and make recommendations for disposition assessment in teacher education programs.
When School Leaders Are In Denial: The Role Of Teacher Education Programs In Preparing Teachers To Combat Homophobia, Joseph R. Jones
When School Leaders Are In Denial: The Role Of Teacher Education Programs In Preparing Teachers To Combat Homophobia, Joseph R. Jones
Teacher Education Journal of South Carolina
As this study and other research literature indicates, homophobia and homophobic bullying is a tremendous problem in our schools. In the past, educators have attempted to address this challenge through a “top-down” administrative process. However, because of covert heterocentricity and unwillingness, administration may not be a viable avenue in some school districts. Thus, it is imperative for teacher education programs to begin addressing the possible ramifications of not having a supportive administration when attempting to create change in local school systems. This article examines how one group of teachers perceived homophobia in their schools and how their administration impacted the …

System For Scene-Level Signal Extraction Concurrent With Media Transcoding, Pooja Verlani, Balu Adsumilli
System For Scene-Level Signal Extraction Concurrent With Media Transcoding, Pooja Verlani, Balu Adsumilli
Defensive Publications Series
Analyzing large-scale media datasets for purposes such as training artificial intelligence models may present inefficiencies when using separate, post-facto analysis pipelines that can involve redundant data processing. A framework may extract scene-level signals from media content concurrently with media transcoding operations. By leveraging a common decoding step for both transcoding and analysis, a system can partition media into scenes and compute quantitative signals related to, for example, visual quality, motion dynamics, and production attributes. The extracted signals can be stored in a structured, indexed database, which can create a queryable dataset from a media archive. This approach may provide a …

Human Subject Studies For The Alignment Of Llm-As-A-Judge Evaluation Metric For Science News, Gabriel Vega Osborne
Knowledge and Creativity Expo
Science news has become an important vehicle to disseminate scientific breakthroughs, discoveries, and technological innovations. With the advancement of large language models and related AI models, it is possible to automatically generate science news from scientific papers, extending the reader population from domain scientists to a broader scope. However, how to evaluate the quality of the generated news warrants research. Traditional token based metrics have been shown to fail to evaluate the semantics and nuances of science news. Inspired by the fact that a major goal of science news is to educate readers with new knowledge, we thus propose knowledge …

The Living Lab: Instructional Design Interventions To Improve Communication And Equity In Federal Housing Programs, Joana I. Camp
Knowledge and Creativity Expo
The Living Lab is an independent applied research project informed by my 25 years of lived experience as a Section 8 voucher holder, examining how instructional design strategies can improve administrative workflows, communication, and equitable access within the Housing Choice Voucher Program. Drawing on sustained participation, the research identifies two primary systemic barriers: the federally mandated 15-day inspection period and incomplete Request for Tenancy Approval (RFTA) packets. To address these issues, the project developed the RFTA Roadmap—a zero-cost, clarity-driven communication tool that embeds sequential instructions directly within procedural workflows, mitigating the Split-Attention Effect and cognitive “Bandwidth Tax” associated with standard …

Media plays a crucial role in shaping public perceptions of gender and sexuality, yet representations of queer female characters in Philippine cinema remain underexplored. While portrayals of bakla characters have been widely studied, lesbian narratives often remain sidelined or framed through limited, stereotypical lenses. This research examines lesbian characters in the films Baka Bukas (2016) and Si Chedeng at Si Apple (2017), using Herman’s Narrative Framework and Intersectionality Theory. The study found that both films construct lesbian identities within specific socio-cultural contexts, revealing how queer women navigate visibility, relationships, and societal expectations in different ways. Baka Bukas emphasizes the quiet …
