Detecting Embedded Advertisements In Media Via Transcript Analysis And A Large Language Model, Sanket Sable, Kevin King Apr 2026

Detecting Embedded Advertisements In Media Via Transcript Analysis And A Large Language Model, Sanket Sable, Kevin King

Defensive Publications Series

Programmatic advertising systems may have difficulty detecting natively embedded advertisements, such as host-read sponsorships in video or audio content, creating a risk of serving conflicting ads and hindering performance measurement. A described technique utilizes an automated server-side pipeline that can generate a timestamped transcript of media content. The system can identify potential ad segments by scanning the transcript for commercial keywords and may then use a large language model, guided by a specific prompt, to analyze these segments and extract a canonical name of the sponsored brand. This process can produce structured data, including brand names and timestamps, which can …

Subscription-Driven Service Intent–Based Slice, Domain, And Node Selection In 5g–6g Converged Network Deployments, Niranjan M M, Rajaneesh Sudhakar Shetty, Srinivas Rao Karnati, Seung Cheol Park, Ravi Shekhar

Defensive Publications Series

Proposed herein is a mobile network system that introduces a subscription-driven service intent mechanism that enables deterministic, scalable, and access-agnostic selection of network slices, service domains, and network functions in 5G–6G converged deployments. A single, normalized Service Intent Indicator, provisioned as part of a user equipment (UE) subscription, represents the intended service characteristics associated with the subscriber and remains independent of the access technology, registration path, or network generation.  By decoupling service intent from access signaling and consolidating multiple selection decisions under a unified, subscription-driven abstraction, the proposed system simplifies network configuration, reduces operational risk, and ensures consistent service realization …

Beyond Social Media: Effective Innovative Strategies For Small Cleaning Services To Engage Decision-Makers And Secure Contracts, Danielle Edwesa Gaskins

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Small cleaning service businesses often encounter challenges when attempting to reach decision-makers and obtain commercial contracts. Small cleaning service business leaders are concerned with securing contracts because the continual acquisition of agreements underpins both business stability and growth. Grounded in the service-dominant logic, the purpose of this qualitative pragmatic inquiry was to explore strategies small cleaning business leaders use to engage decision-makers and win contracts without relying on the use of social media marketing. The participants were five leaders from small cleaning businesses in the United States who had successfully secured contracts through alternative engagement strategies. Data were gathered using …

Unlocking Inexpensive Training Through Overcoming Weaknesses In Dataset Distillation, Connor Wilhelm Apr 2026

Unlocking Inexpensive Training Through Overcoming Weaknesses In Dataset Distillation, Connor Wilhelm

Theses and Dissertations

Dataset distillation is a nascent technique that promises accelerated neural network training. In particular, distillation produces a highly compressed dataset that can train a neural network in as little as a single optimization step. However, distillation has not been adopted for real-world use cases due to weaknesses, such as poor approximation of the original task, unclear interpretability, high costs of the initial distillation, and poorly elaborated use cases. Here, we present five papers that advance task distillation towards real-world adoption. The papers focus on: distilling reinforcement learning environments, interpreting distillation-produced datasets, improving distillation performance using ensembling, examining distillation's generalization to …

Toward Human-Like Robot Behavior In Co-Manipulation: Learning From Human Dyad Performance, Adam Kenneth Jackson Apr 2026

Toward Human-Like Robot Behavior In Co-Manipulation: Learning From Human Dyad Performance, Adam Kenneth Jackson

Theses and Dissertations

Co-manipulation requires two or more agents to coordinate through a shared object while exchanging information through motion and force. Although this capability is routine for humans, robotic systems still struggle to participate in such interaction naturally and effectively. This thesis addresses that gap by studying human co-manipulation behavior, developing methods to quantify performance, collecting a leader-follower dataset that isolates haptic communication, and training data-driven controllers from human demonstrations. First, cumulative and real-time metrics were developed to quantify human dyad performance. In particular, the behavioral modes "quickly" and "smoothly" were formulated as measurable performance objectives using completion time and squared jerk. …

3d Printed Microfluidic Nonlinear Structures For Implementing Lab-On-A-Chip Integrated Logic Control, Marshall J. Rawlins Apr 2026

3d Printed Microfluidic Nonlinear Structures For Implementing Lab-On-A-Chip Integrated Logic Control, Marshall J. Rawlins

Theses and Dissertations

Microfluidic devices are individual chips that manipulate small quantities of fluid to perform, for example, biomedical assays. They provide a compact apparatus for conducting chemical processes while using only micro-liter quantities of potentially expensive chemical reagents. Continued research in microfluidics has brought significant achievements in reducing microfluidic feature sizes, allowing for microfluidic systems to be more densely packed and designed for more complex chemical assays. However, this comes with the need for additional control inputs which require additional external equipment to generate the control inputs. This leads to crowding of external inputs, or an increase in chip volume to accommodate …

Physics-Based And Data-Driven Low-Order Modeling Of Centrifugal Compressors, Chase Oliphant Apr 2026

Physics-Based And Data-Driven Low-Order Modeling Of Centrifugal Compressors, Chase Oliphant

Theses and Dissertations

Centrifugal compressors serve as critical components across many applications, yet their design and performance prediction present significant challenges. While computational fluid dynamics provides high-fidelity predictions of compressor behavior, its prohibitive computational cost renders it impractical for preliminary design phases where rapid exploration of the geometric and operating space is essential. Conversely, existing low-order models have enabled efficient performance estimation but suffer from limited accuracy and poor interpretability, particularly when applied to novel geometries or off-design operating conditions. This dissertation addresses these limitations through three complementary contributions that bridge the gap between high-fidelity CFD and preliminary design tools. The first contribution …

Who Wins? The Challenges And Potential Impacts Of State Courts’ Holdings In Fsu V. Acc, In Florida, And Acc V. Fsu, In North Carolina, Ethan Nickolaus Anagnos

University of Miami Business Law Review

Over the years, grant of rights (GOR) agreements have continually been the foundation for the transfer of exclusive rights between parties. In the ultra-competitive arena of the college football industry, these agreements have played an instrumental role in preserving and financing conferences and universities. Despite the prevalence of these GOR agreements, no university nor conference had ever attempted to challenge their validity before a court. That was until December 2023, when Florida State University (FSU) and the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) entered into a grueling and highly debated legal dispute regarding their GOR agreement, which is supposed to continue until …

The Impact Of Sex Education On College Student’S Perceptions Of Sexual Taboos, Noel Gamon Apr 2026

The Impact Of Sex Education On College Student’S Perceptions Of Sexual Taboos, Noel Gamon

Honors Theses

The purpose of this research is to explore how college students' differing levels of sex education are associated with their views about sexual behavior, particularly behaviors defined as taboo. In comparison to 25 years ago, adolescents are less likely to receive important sex education today; and are unlikely to receive valuable information until after their first sexual experience. Conventionally, the benefits of a sex education program are linked with its ability to lower STI rates, unplanned pregnancies, unwanted behavior, etc. Sexual taboos are sexual practices excluded from the hegemonic heterosexual monogamous relationship model. Presently, society acknowledges a wider range of …

G1p3 Dysregulates Interferon-Stimulated Gene Expression In Er (+) Breast Cancer Cells, Karina Santana Apr 2026

G1p3 Dysregulates Interferon-Stimulated Gene Expression In Er (+) Breast Cancer Cells, Karina Santana

Honors Theses

Even with advances in diagnosis and treatment, breast cancer remains the second leading cause of cancer-related death in women, with nearly 90% of fatalities linked to drug resistance driven by metastasis and recurrence. G1P3, an anti-apoptotic mitochondrial protein, is upregulated in breast cancer and has been associated with increased metastatic potential and poor prognosis. Recent findings show that G1P3 enhances interactions between Rab5-containing endosomes (RCEs) and mitochondria, and emerging evidence suggests that mitochondria play a critical role in initiating interferon (IFN) responses. Based on this, we hypothesized that G1P3-mediated interactions between RCEs and mitochondria promote interferon-stimulated gene (ISG) expression in …

Three Degree Of Freedom Wave Energy Converter Design For Resonant Motion, Greg Ballen, David G. Wilson, Rush Robinett, Shangyan Zou, Wayne Weaver Apr 2026

Three Degree Of Freedom Wave Energy Converter Design For Resonant Motion, Greg Ballen, David G. Wilson, Rush Robinett, Shangyan Zou, Wayne Weaver

Michigan Tech Publications

As multiple-degree-of-freedom (3-DOF) wave energy converters (WECs) have demonstrated the ability to produce more power than single-degree-of-freedom devices, the challenge of designing buoys for efficient energy harvesting has increased in complexity. In this paper, a cylindrical WEC is designed to naturally resonate in surge, pitch, and heave modes at a specific target frequency of 0.2 Hz. By utilizing a penalty-based optimization method to balance buoyancy requirements with natural resonance, the design achieves minimal control force input, thereby reducing fluctuations in energy output and local energy storage requirements. The performance is evaluated under irregular sea states using a Bretschneider spectrum. Results …
