Learning At Scale As Infrastructure: Lms Platforms, Data Pipelines, And Language-Based Evidence For Educational Measurement, Danielle S. Mcnamara, Michelle Banawan, Renu Balyan, Rod D. Roscoe, Tracy Arner

Chinese/English Journal of Educational Measurement and Evaluation | 教育测量与评估双语期刊

The increasing scale of digital learning environments has transformed the data available for educational measurement, learning analytics, and the learning sciences. However, learning at scale is often treated as a matter of sample size or novel analytic methods rather than as the outcome of institutional infrastructure that governs how learning data are generated, curated, transformed, and accessed. This paper offers an infrastructure-centered description of learning at scale, focusing on learning management systems (LMSs), platform-integrated tools, and data pipelines that produce research-ready educational data. As an illustrative exemplar, we draw on the design and operation of the Arizona State University Learning@Scale …

A Century Of Industrialization, In A Decade: Operation Bootstrap And Puerto Rican Migration To Ohio, Pablo M. Frontera-Mendez Apr 2026

A Century Of Industrialization, In A Decade: Operation Bootstrap And Puerto Rican Migration To Ohio, Pablo M. Frontera-Mendez

ONU Student Research Colloquium

We have all heard the story of the Rust Belt, where it was once America’s heartland but has long been abandoned by the manufacturing sector. What if there were a place in the United States that, instead of closing plants, was building them? Puerto Rico, a US territory since 1898, had struggled to diversify its economy for half a century. Then, almost as if by magic, the island embarked on the most ambitious industrialization program the world had ever seen. The island would lift itself out of poverty no matter the cost. The Puerto Rican economy experienced growth in every …

Lessons Learned For Improving Trainee Engagement And Utilization Of Education And Training Materials For Cancer Research, Katerina M. Santiago, Tania Galindo, Michaela A. Dinan

Advances in Cancer Education and Quality Improvement

Background: A core component of the National Cancer Institute Cancer (NCI) Cancer Center Support Grant requires cancer centers to coordinate research career enhancement and related activities. The Yale Cancer Center, an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center, established the Cancer Research Training and Education Coordination (CRTEC) component in 2016. In response to the needs of trainees, CRTEC has developed several initiatives that we have identified and described here as best practices to engage and support trainees.

Methods: We had 2 aims to improve engagement: 1) increasing our visibility and trainee awareness of CRTEC and nurturing bidirectional communication and 2) offering …

Centralizing Communication Intake To Improve Workflow Visibility And Engagement: A Quality Improvement Project In A Cancer Center's Education Division, Menatalla El-Sharkawi, Mohamed Ait Aiss

Advances in Cancer Education and Quality Improvement

Background: In large or complex organizations, multiple teams may be charged with managing different components of a project, initiative, or administrative assignment. When these teams have overlapping needs for information, the absence of a structured intake and tracking process can limit transparency, reduce efficiency, and hinder coordination across communication channels.

Methods: Drawing on principles of strategic communications and project management, we created a structured and centralized information sharing process for teams within the education division of a comprehensive cancer center. The intervention included workflow redesign, development of a standardized intake system, and use of real-time dashboard analytics to support operation …

C. Diff: The Failures Of Long-Term Care Facilities, Ethan Jerome, John Meade, Owen Newman

Liberty University Research Week

Background: Clostridioides difficile (C. diff) is responsible for 500,000 infections each year, with many more asymptomatic carriers in health care settings.1 The impact of C. diff within long-term care facilities (LTCF) is crucial, as those above the age of 65 are considered at risk for acquiring a C. diff infection (CDI).2 Understanding why there is still a high prevalence of C. diff. infections within long-term care facilities is crucial to protect the lives of those who may be at risk of exposure or death from a CDI. Aim: The study aimed to determine what is responsible for the failure to …

Bridging The Gap In Adolescent And Young Adult Sexual Health Education, Claire Rau, Anjali Jacob, Cassidy Harris, Michael Ago Tetteh Apr 2026

Bridging The Gap In Adolescent And Young Adult Sexual Health Education, Claire Rau, Anjali Jacob, Cassidy Harris, Michael Ago Tetteh

Liberty University Research Week

This research addresses the critical need for improved sexual health education for adolescents and young adults, prompted by current STI and pregnancy data in Virginia. Following PRISMA guidelines, this systematic review evaluated existing evidence-based, relationship-skills-focused sexual health interventions. The findings indicate that while current programs effectively target risk reduction and pregnancy prevention, they often lack the integration of a Biblical worldview and sufficient focus on comprehensive relational development alongside sexual health knowledge. Consequently, this project proposes adapting the Love Notes program and developing the Digging Deep curriculum to better bridge these gaps.

Profanity In Public Address And Its Influence On Audience Perception, Emma Witler Apr 2026

Profanity In Public Address And Its Influence On Audience Perception, Emma Witler

Liberty University Research Week

Profanity is not a novel addition to the context of language and communication. While words themselves or the connotation and severity surrounding them has assuredly evolved, the presence of profanity in society is just as significant now as it has always been. Geography, culture, religious beliefs or affiliations, politics, and even age can be determining factors of what is considered “too far” and when or where this boundary has been crossed. Due to the nature of profanity and its inherent impact on society, it is essential that the use of profanity is analyzed contextually with the intent of increasing communicative …

Bridging The Digital Divide In Rural America: How 2026–2030 Digital Health Policies, Perseverance Nothando Moyo

Liberty University Research Week

Background: Since the COVID-19 pandemic, U.S. digital health policies have evolved from temporary emergency measures into permanent infrastructure reshaping healthcare delivery. Rural and underserved communities (~46 million Americans) face persistent access disparities, exacerbated by a projected 23% decline in rural physicians by 2030. Major federal investments include Medicare telehealth flexibilities extended through 2027, DEA telemedicine prescribing through 2026, and the $50 billion Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP, 2026–2030). This study examines the impact of these policies on healthcare access and patient engagement in rural and underserved areas during 2026–2030.

Methods: Policy analysis and narrative review of the U.S. digital health …

Balancing Risk And Reward: Examining Offensive Rebound Rates And Points Per Possession In Di Men’S College Basketball, Quinten Chiarizzio, Braden Chupp, Joshua Hines, Conor Guiltinan

Liberty University Research Week

This study aims to investigate how the number of offensive rebounders attempting to rebound a missed shot affects the offensive rebounding rate and the points per possession of the offensive team. Offensive rebounding rate is a strong indicator of success in basketball and can drastically improve a team's efficiency. Some research has been done at the NBA level, yet little research has been done at the college level into maximizing this rate without jeopardizing the defensive end. This study aims to address the research question: "How does the number of offensive rebounders impact the offensive rebounding rate and points per …

Liberty University Research Week

This study aims to examine the effects of social media platforms, Instagram and TikTok, on the mental health of adolescent athletes who are in subjective sports. Many athletes look at other athletes' performances on social media or scroll on Instagram or TikTok without realizing the harm that it can cause to their mental health and individual performance. When referring to mental health, athletes are specifically being asked about anxiety and depression, and if they notice an increase in these mental health symptoms or struggle with comparison after looking at these platforms. The research question is: How does comparison negatively impact …

Disaster Relief Integration And Public Funding Allocation In Professional Sports Venues: A Comparative Analysis, Jayden Jackson, Andrew Holzapfel, Emma Cromer, Madison Yeager, Tyler Ondrea Apr 2026

Disaster Relief Integration And Public Funding Allocation In Professional Sports Venues: A Comparative Analysis, Jayden Jackson, Andrew Holzapfel, Emma Cromer, Madison Yeager, Tyler Ondrea

Liberty University Research Week

There is a documented, ever-rising cost associated with the construction and maintenance of professional sport stadiums across the United States, especially in the southern states. While the public subsidies that support these stadiums remain highly debated among policymakers, taxpayers, economists, and community stakeholders, many facilities serve as mission-ready, high-utility community hubs during public disasters such as hurricanes, floods, and other large-scale emergencies. This study investigates whether a connection exists between a venue’s disaster relief utility and the total public subsidy it receives post-disaster over a defined period of time. Grounded in Social Exchange Theory, the study aims to determine if …

Analysis Of Instructional Asl Resources For Ddeaf Children, Rayah Finstad Apr 2026

Analysis Of Instructional Asl Resources For Ddeaf Children, Rayah Finstad

Liberty University Research Week

Living in a digital age, online resources are commonly used to teach, entertain, develop skills and build connections for both Hearing and dDeaf1 children around the world. However, no research has been conducted to determine what makes these videos successful in reaching their goals. Literature in the fields of education, dDeaf education, American Sign Language (ASL), and dDeaf spirituality is limited in scope. The current research demonstrates that dDeaf individuals primarily learn through visual means, namely, ASL. In communicating, consideration must be given to culture, language preferences, and visual methods. While educational studies mention some effective strategies for teaching literature …

Hedging Without Derivatives: A Regime-Aware Framework For Managing Downside Risk In Long-Only Portfolios, Whittman Brown, Birhanu Kramer, Carter Hall, Ryan Natelborg, Walker Lucas Apr 2026

Hedging Without Derivatives: A Regime-Aware Framework For Managing Downside Risk In Long-Only Portfolios, Whittman Brown, Birhanu Kramer, Carter Hall, Ryan Natelborg, Walker Lucas

Liberty University Research Week

This study evaluates regime-based allocation strategies for downside risk management in long-only portfolios. Traditional portfolio risk management relies heavily on derivative instruments like protective puts and futures to mitigate downside. However, student-managed portfolios operate under strict regulatory and educational constraints, and lack continuous oversight required for active derivative management. Academic literature on regime-switching models and tactical asset allocation demonstrates that economic regimes influence portfolio returns, yet practical implementation studies for long-only investors remain underdeveloped. Limited empirical work examines whether systematic allocation adjustments based on regime identification provide downside protection comparable to derivative-based hedging strategies. We seek to address the research …

The Proceedings Of Great Day Volume 17, Liam Berger, Ella Singer, Gabrielle Houde

Proceedings of GREAT Day

From welcoming our new president to the excitement of A Whale of a Time festival, this was a year of collaboration and new allies expressing the spirit of the liberal arts. This issue of The Proceedings of GREAT Day highlights that same spirit through works addressing the role of religion in dismantling inequality, exploring the exciting world of knots and integrals, and investigating the past (and present) of our very own campus. Delve deeper into the GREAT work of SUNY Geneseo’s students in this year’s issue of The Proceedings of GREAT Day.

"What A Mensch Does Is Fight For Justice:" Judaism, Activism, And Agency In The Civil Rights Movement, Ethan Harris Apr 2026

"What A Mensch Does Is Fight For Justice:" Judaism, Activism, And Agency In The Civil Rights Movement, Ethan Harris

Proceedings of GREAT Day

While it is commonly known that the Jewish community was a major contributor to the United States Civil Rights Movement, much of the historiography focuses exclusively on the eventual fall of the Black/Jewish alliance. These gaps fail to encompass the unique nature of the Jewish activist experience, let alone their contributions in progressing African American equality. This project aims to provide insight into the nuances of Jewish involvement in the movement, as well as highlight how many Jews employed their religious traditions to inspire years of successful activism. Additionally, there is a call to action for public education to include …

Senegalese Community Through Media, Genesis Flores

Proceedings of GREAT Day

This paper builds off another paper detailing the media representation in Dakar, Senegal. This paper will discuss the extent in which the media representation in Dakar represents the daily culture, the sense of community, and how the media in Dakar transfers over to the diaspora/ america (if such a thing even occurs). In order to engage in this discussion, the top popular newspapers and news channels will be used as primary sources, coupled with clips of interviews, social media, and scholarly articles. This paper will then discuss the effectiveness of media in Dakar and assess if the media has any …

Why Won't My Parlays Hit?: An Analysis Of The American Sports Betting Industry, Ian Palmieri Apr 2026

Why Won't My Parlays Hit?: An Analysis Of The American Sports Betting Industry, Ian Palmieri

Proceedings of GREAT Day

This paper investigates the advertising of the American sports betting industry. The increased prominence of such messaging, including league partnerships and influencer endorsements, influences individuals to gamble at higher rates, especially young adult males. Analysis of a sportsbook’s partnership with a sports league, three popular YouTube Channels, and a self-administered survey consisting of Likert-scale and open-ended questions reveals that advertisers employ deceptive language and placement, leading to higher rates of sports betting and advertising wearout.

Examining The Sociology Of Diversity: A State Of The Literature Within An Emerging Subfield, Guadalupe Alicea, Julia Carter Apr 2026

Examining The Sociology Of Diversity: A State Of The Literature Within An Emerging Subfield, Guadalupe Alicea, Julia Carter

Proceedings of GREAT Day

The sociology of diversity is an emerging field that examines how social differences, such as race, gender, class, and ability, intersect within institutions and everyday life. As diversity becomes a central concern in education, workplaces, and policymaking, scholars continue to debate not only what diversity is but also what it looks like in practice, how it is performed, who is responsible for enacting it, and how institutional diversity goals align–or fail to align–with broader social equity objectives. These key debates within diversity discourse aid to critically assess how SUNY Geneseo, self-defined as an “equity-based honors college,” engages with diversity initiatives. …

Cholera, Community, And Commiseration: A Social Historical Look At The 1854 London Cholera Epidemic, Emily Meisenzahl Apr 2026

Cholera, Community, And Commiseration: A Social Historical Look At The 1854 London Cholera Epidemic, Emily Meisenzahl

Proceedings of GREAT Day

Although people are most impacted by epidemics, a majority of the existing scholarship on Victorian London, public health, and the London cholera epidemics are based in political and economic history rather than lived, bottom-up narratives. The scholarship on the 1854 cholera epidemic, for instance, almost exclusively centers physician John Snow and largely ignores social history. Therefore, my thesis builds upon and contributes to these existing fields by focusing on the lived experience of the 1854 cholera epidemic among everyday urban residents. Through this paper, I intend to highlight how Londoners utilized letters and petitioning, Punch Magazine, and the “To the …

National Trends And State-Level Correlates Of Medications For Opioid Use Disorder Utilization Among Treatment Admissions In The United States, 2014-2023, Prince Osei Sarpong, Emmanuel Owusu, Manasvi Shiyani, Michael Ago Tetteh, Naa Komley Commey

Liberty University Research Week

Background: Medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) reduce overdose risk and improve retention in care, yet implementation at treatment entry remains uneven across the United States. Study objectives and hypotheses: To examine national and state-level patterns in MOUD use at treatment admission from 2014 through 2023 and to identify state-year characteristics associated with higher utilization. We hypothesized that MOUD use would vary substantially across states and would be lower in state years with greater structural disadvantage.

Methods: A repeated cross-sectional ecological study was conducted using the Treatment Episode Data Set-Admissions public use file. The analytic sample included adult admissions from …
