Beyond The Switch: Identifying Gli2-Associated Secretory Targets For Igm Regulation In Waldenström’S Macroglobulinemia, Trevor Charles Chapman
Beyond The Switch: Identifying Gli2-Associated Secretory Targets For Igm Regulation In Waldenström’S Macroglobulinemia, Trevor Charles Chapman
Master's Theses and Capstones
Waldenström’s Macroglobulinemia (WM) is a rare non-Hodgkin lymphoma characterized by the increased presence of monoclonal IgM circulating in the blood and the infiltration of lymphoplasmacytic cells into the bone marrow. WM cells are heterogeneous, sharing features of both B-lymphocytes and plasma cells while not being able to terminally differentiate. Our labs’ previous work established that inhibiting and knocking down the GLI2 transcription factor effectively reduces IgM secretion in three different WM cell lines. This observed phenotype was discovered to operate through IL-6Rα signaling but whether IgM was regulated transcriptionally was not assessed. GLI2 was initially hypothesized to regulate IgM production …
Digital Deterrence Through Financial Controls: Anti-Money Laundering Laws, Lawfare, And The Prc Cyber Threat, Owen T. Tremblay
Digital Deterrence Through Financial Controls: Anti-Money Laundering Laws, Lawfare, And The Prc Cyber Threat, Owen T. Tremblay
William & Mary Law Review
This Note argues that anti-money laundering (AML) laws have the potential to serve as powerful tools in disrupting and degrading the support networks that enable and sustain PRC offensive cyber operations. [...] Part I provides an overview of the PRC’s cyber force structure and the national objectives it seeks to achieve through state-sponsored cyber operations. Part II examines the existing legal mechanisms employed to combat PRC MCA [Malicious Cyber Activity], including criminal charges, sanctions, export controls, investment restrictions, civil lawsuits, and other regulatory measures. Part III introduces AML laws as an additional tool in the legal and regulatory toolkit used …

When Mac Shouldn’T Smile Back: Anthropomorphic Logo And Effect On Consumer Perceptions Of Generative Artificial Intelligence, Ainsley E. Ballard
When Mac Shouldn’T Smile Back: Anthropomorphic Logo And Effect On Consumer Perceptions Of Generative Artificial Intelligence, Ainsley E. Ballard
Honors Scholar Theses
Drawing on prior research suggesting that anthropomorphic design can increase trust, liking, and perceived competence, this research investigates whether these effects extend to generative artificial intelligence logos. A three-group between-subjects study was conducted to examine how varying levels of logo anthropomorphization influenced consumer perceptions of an artificial intelligence brand. In being assigned to one of three logo conditions, humanoid (high anthropomorphism), animalistic (moderate anthropomorphism), or nature/geometric (low anthropomorphism), participants evaluated the new logo across multiple dimensions, including liking, brand fit, trustworthiness, and willingness to buy. Contrary to the initial hypothesis, the low anthropomorphism condition consistently received the most positive ratings, …
Inosine Accelerates Cancer Cell Killing By The Experimental Antifolate Ucp1162: Implications For Novel Combination Treatments, Reshma Ramesh, Charles Giardina, Alan Kuo
Inosine Accelerates Cancer Cell Killing By The Experimental Antifolate Ucp1162: Implications For Novel Combination Treatments, Reshma Ramesh, Charles Giardina, Alan Kuo
Honors Scholar Theses
Antifolates disrupt one-carbon metabolism (OCM), which stops nucleotide synthesis and therefore slows down cell proliferation. Our experimental antifolate, UCP1162, stops de novo purine synthesis and thymidine synthesis by targeting the OCM pathway. We investigated whether the downstream metabolites of OCM pathway: methionine, thymidine, and inosine, affect the cell death caused by UCP1162 using MV4-11 leukemia cells. Thymidine was found to partially rescue MV4-11 cells from UCP1162, in contrast, inosine was found to accelerate the cell death caused by UCP1162. These cytotoxic effects of UCP1162 alone and in combination with inosine were irreversible, as removal of treatment did not restore cell …
Policing The Bench: Why State Legislatures Target Judicial Ethics Commissions, Emily R. Grayson
Policing The Bench: Why State Legislatures Target Judicial Ethics Commissions, Emily R. Grayson
Honors Scholar Theses
This thesis examines the factors driving state legislatures to restructure judicial ethics commissions. Although judicial autonomy is foundational to the American legal system, these reforms signal a growing legislative willingness to exert direct influence over the bench. With a particular focus in Texas and Georgia, this study compares the variables that shape reforms and the common themes that are present in the legislative debates. Using Devlin and Wildeman’s (2021) framework as a guide, the specific arguments made by legislators regarding these reforms are examined in an effort to understand how they justified or contested the changes. By analyzing legislative discourse …
From Prescription To Plate: Redefining The Pharmacist’S Role In Food Is Medicine Initiatives, Aleena R. Thomas
From Prescription To Plate: Redefining The Pharmacist’S Role In Food Is Medicine Initiatives, Aleena R. Thomas
Honors Scholar Theses
Produce prescription (PRx) programs are an emerging Food is Medicine intervention designed to address diet-related chronic diseases and food insecurity by integrating healthcare delivery with access to fruits and vegetables. Diet-related conditions such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease represent a major public health burden in the United States, particularly among populations with limited access to nutritious food. Despite growing evidence supporting PRx programs, pharmacists -- who routinely manage these conditions and monitor outcomes -- are underutilized in program implementation. The objective of this project is to translate the public health aspects of PRx programs into an accessible, …
The Development Of A Crispr-Based Calibrated Functional Assay For Classifying Pathogenicity Of Msh2 And Msh6 Variants In Lynch Syndrome, Olivia N. Amodeo
The Development Of A Crispr-Based Calibrated Functional Assay For Classifying Pathogenicity Of Msh2 And Msh6 Variants In Lynch Syndrome, Olivia N. Amodeo
Honors Scholar Theses
Lynch syndrome is a hereditary disease caused by the inheritance of a mismatch repair gene variant. Individuals with this condition are predisposed to cancer development, most commonly colorectal cancer. Current guidelines for variant classification are based on numerous evidence categories, including functional evidence. However, many novel clinical variants are not well characterized, and evidence is difficult to obtain if functional assays are not calibrated.
To address this, our lab created a calibrated functional assay that calculates an odds of pathogenicity score for MSH2 and MSH6 gene variants that can be used as evidence for classifying variants of uncertain significance. This …
Reversible, Light-Controlled Inhibition Of Stim1-Mediated Calcium Signaling Using Photoswitchable Ml-9 Derivatives In Jurkat-Lucia Nfat Reporter T Cells, José L. Matute Gálvez
Reversible, Light-Controlled Inhibition Of Stim1-Mediated Calcium Signaling Using Photoswitchable Ml-9 Derivatives In Jurkat-Lucia Nfat Reporter T Cells, José L. Matute Gálvez
Honors Scholar Theses
Store-operated calcium entry (SOCE) through calcium release-activated
calcium (CRAC) channels is the dominant pathway for sustained Ca2+ influx in
non-excitable cells and is essential for T cell activation, driving downstream
signaling through the calcineurin-NFAT transcriptional axis. Dysregulation of
SOCE produces multi-systemic disease phenotypes, establishing that precise,
spatiotemporally controlled modulation of this pathway is a fundamental
therapeutic requirement. ML-9 is one of the only characterized small molecules
capable of targeting SOCE upstream at the level of STIM1 localization, but lacks
the selectivity, pharmacokinetic properties, and spatiotemporal control necessary
for therapeutic development.
This work describes the design, synthesis, and biological evaluation of …

Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This qualitative study examines the role of food within community tactics for mobilization and negotiation. In order to do so, this study employs a mixed-methods approach of semi-structured interviews, participant observations, and archival analysis, to answer questions around how participants subvert historically racialized narratives around Vietnamese immigrant’s labor, family, and identity. Specifically, how do Vietnamese American women in Memphis use food labor to negotiate racialized immigrant identities and mobilize cultural and community power within the constraints of gendered expectations, class position, and racial stereotypes? Furthermore, this research focuses on Vietnamese women’s positionality, centering women chefs and community leaders as the …
Mining The Body: Racial Capitalism And The Embodied Sacrifice Zone, Regina Marie Young
Mining The Body: Racial Capitalism And The Embodied Sacrifice Zone, Regina Marie Young
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Mining the Body: Racial Capitalism and the Sacrifice Zone of the Body examines 20th and 21st-century American literature, excavating the ways in which mining not only extracted resources from the earth, but also mined the bodies of their workers for their labor, often ignoring safety in the name of economy. This extraction of coal and of labor, along with its attendant exploitations, sparked unionization and labor movements throughout the century, as miners were frequently at the forefront of asserting their rights in response to this treatment. Using a framework that relies on both environmental criticism, such as Rob Nixon’s Slow …
Right (Or Wrong) To Bear Arms: Regional-Campus Women Students' Perceptions Of Campus Carry, Daniel Christian
Right (Or Wrong) To Bear Arms: Regional-Campus Women Students' Perceptions Of Campus Carry, Daniel Christian
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Campus carry legislation remains one of the most contested higher education policy issues in the United States, particularly in states where concealed carry permit holders may legally carry firearms on public college campuses. Although prior research has included women as one of many demographics, there is a dearth of scholarship that focuses on college women exclusively to investigate their response to campus carry. This gap is concerning given documented gender differences in attitudes toward gun policy and the disproportionate impact of sexual violence and safety concerns on women in collegiate settings.
To fill a gap in the literature, the proposed …

Exploring Integrated Arts Education For Students With Autism, Karen Denise Harrison
Exploring Integrated Arts Education For Students With Autism, Karen Denise Harrison
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are often misunderstood because of challenges in communication, social-emotional development, and sensory processing. Neuroscience research highlights that individuals with ASD process information and stimuli differently, particularly in areas related to sensory integration, executive functioning, and emotional regulation. Traditional educational methods often isolate these students from their neurotypical peers, reducing opportunities to engage meaningfully with standards-based curricula. Integrated arts education offers an alternative approach, aligning with neuroscience principles by engaging multiple brain regions through movement, rhythm, imagery, and creativity, allowing students with ASD to demonstrate their learning through project-based and creative experiences that meet diverse …
Young Alumni Engagement At The University Of Mississippi: A Qualitative Study On Recent Graduate Perceptions Of The Ole Miss Alumni Association, Mary Kate Skelton
Young Alumni Engagement At The University Of Mississippi: A Qualitative Study On Recent Graduate Perceptions Of The Ole Miss Alumni Association, Mary Kate Skelton
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Declining government funding for higher education has led universities to progressively rely on private donations from alumni and donors. Mississippi’s budget for higher education has decreased by $6.6 billion from FY08 to FY18 (Mitchell et al., 2019). As financial pressure increases, the role of alumni association offices has become crucial in securing financial support for scholarships, infrastructure, research, and campus life (McDonough, 2017). With alumni contributing over $59.9 billion in private funds to higher education in 2022, their support is vital for colleges and universities to meet financial and academic goals (CASE, 2023). Early engagement of young alumni is critical …
Could Grange Membership Reduce Brain Drain?: Perceptions Of Student Fraternal Members On Returning To Rural America After Graduation, Amanda Leigh Brozana
Could Grange Membership Reduce Brain Drain?: Perceptions Of Student Fraternal Members On Returning To Rural America After Graduation, Amanda Leigh Brozana
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Rural communities across the United States continue to experience population decline as young adults with postsecondary aspirations often leave their hometowns in pursuit of educational and economic opportunities. This migration, commonly referred to as rural brain drain, is often a result of the cumulative effects of limited access to postsecondary resources, career pathways, and community infrastructure that support rural retention. While extensive research documents the economic and educational dimensions of this phenomenon, fewer studies explore the influence of social, civic, and fraternal organizations on sustaining rural identity and fostering connection to place. This Dissertation in Practice proposes a study to …
Retail Investor Responses To Accounting Disclosures Using Trade-Level Evidence, Matthew Oakes
Retail Investor Responses To Accounting Disclosures Using Trade-Level Evidence, Matthew Oakes
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Retail trading is experiencing remarkable growth amongst the current capital markets driven by many advancements such as commission free trading, fintech applications, and fractional share trading. Prior literature documents differing opinions on the capabilities of retail traders, often describing these traders as noise or attention-based traders. Whether these investors trade on complex accounting information remains an empirical question. In this study, I investigate whether retail investors respond to and incorporate accounting disclosures in their trading decisions by examining financial restatements, going concern opinions, and material weakness disclosures. I analyze retail activity using the quote midpoint method and fractional share trades. …

Development And Evaluation Of Ros-Responsive Thioketal-Capped Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles For Dual Drug Delivery Of Moxifloxacin And Curcumin In Wound Healing, Saiganesh Pothuraju
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Chronic infected wounds remain a major clinical challenge because elevated reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the wound microenvironment sustain inflammation, damage regenerating tissue, and limit the effectiveness of conventional antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory therapy. To address this problem, this study aimed to develop ROS-responsive thioketal-capped mesoporous silica nanoparticles (TK-MSNs) for the dual delivery of moxifloxacin (MOX) and curcumin (CUR) to support the management of infected wounds. Mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) were synthesised using tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), followed by template removal, amino-functionalization with 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES), and sequential loading of MOX and CUR. ROS-responsive capping was then achieved using …
With Equity And Inclusivity For All: Self-Reported Preparedness Of Band Directors To Teach Students With Exceptional Needs, Kendra Jenkins Lee
With Equity And Inclusivity For All: Self-Reported Preparedness Of Band Directors To Teach Students With Exceptional Needs, Kendra Jenkins Lee
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The traditional memory theory of personal identity relies on an implicit storage model of memory to explain how the self persists over time. This model assumes that memories endure as stable representations that can be accurately retrieved, and that such representational continuity grounds diachronic identity. However, contemporary cognitive science demonstrates that remembering is an active and reconstructive process. Each act of recall reorganizes and transforms prior experience during the window of ecphory. This reconstructive reality poses a significant philosophical challenge. If memory is inherently unstable and transformable, it cannot straightforwardly ground the kind of continuity the theory requires.

Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This study examines the hereditary transmission of drumming among the Anlo-Ewe of southeastern Ghana, focusing on the Agbodo/Amuzu family of Hatsuk?ƒe in the Volta Region. Situated within ethnomusicological discourse on traditional Anlo-Ewe musical practices and the specialized roles of the researched family, who are drummers of the exclusive Ye?e religious tradition, this research argues that drumming in this context is not merely a musical activity but a complex system of communication, identity, ritual authority, and cultural continuity. The study fills and addresses a significant gap in existing scholarship on the Anlo-Ewe music, which has largely emphasized community dance-drumming and institutional …
The “Meta-Country” Of Morgan Wallen: Authenticity Signaling In Contemporary Country Music, Ryley Fallon
The “Meta-Country” Of Morgan Wallen: Authenticity Signaling In Contemporary Country Music, Ryley Fallon
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Country music artist Morgan Wallen has dominated sales charts and streaming numbers on digital platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. Wallen has also crafted his own image of what it means to be “country,” distilling it into the usual, hyper-recognizable motifs of whiskey and trucks while transitioning them onto new media platforms. In addition, Wallen maintains his small-town Tennessee boy image despite conquering massive digital landscapes. This thesis argues that Morgan Wallen exemplifies a new phase of country music, “metacountry.” “Meta-country,” as detailed in this thesis, refers to the continuation of country music’s commercialization into the digital space in …

This niche industry has woven itself into the larger New Orleans tourism industry and drastically changed the landscape and popular identity of the French Quarter. The photos give a personal perspective of how the industry manifested within the city.
The throughline of this project is a feedback loop I identified- a cycle of influences that has ultimately made the French …
On The Importance Of Proportionality In Congressional Redistricting, Guélan Kossi Zaour
On The Importance Of Proportionality In Congressional Redistricting, Guélan Kossi Zaour
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Which party benefits the most from partisan gerrymandering? Extant literature attempting to measure this phenomenon is largely atheoretical, primarily focused on designing tools that could be used in court cases. I argue that measuring the partisan consequences of gerrymandering should require deeper conceptualization of the notion of fairness. I make the normative claim that proportionality, which I define as the alignment between a party’s share of the vote and its share of congressional districts in a given state, should be used as a standard of fairness. Using the redist R package, I measured the partisan consequences of gerrymandering by generating …
