Modeling Bitcoin Dynamics Using Differential Equations, Boone M. Fleenor Apr 2026

Modeling Bitcoin Dynamics Using Differential Equations, Boone M. Fleenor

Departmental Honors & Graduate Capstone Projects

In this thesis, we develop and analyze two nonlinear systems of ordinary differential equations to model Bitcoin price dynamics. Analytical techniques are used to obtain exact or approximate solutions where possible. Then, numerical simulations using a fourth-order Runge–Kutta method are employed to explore system behavior beyond analytically tractable regimes. Finally, model outputs are compared to historical Bitcoin price data using normalized and resampled time series. These results suggest that deterministic models can provide meaningful insight into the structural behavior of Bitcoin markets, while highlighting the need for stochastic or time-dependent extensions for more realistic modeling.

Department of Earth and Environmental Studies Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

Over the past five decades, ferrate(VI) (FeO42–) for water and wastewater treatment has remained largely at the laboratory scale, with limited pilot- and full-scale implementation. This gap between sustained research and scarce real-world deployment places the technology in the Valley of Death─a high-risk stage of development─and highlights the need for an engineering-centric approach to enable practical application. This article presents an engineering framework to guide the development and translation of ferrate(VI) technology for water and wastewater treatment. From a system perspective, ferrate(VI) technology comprises three core subsystems: generation, treatment, and solid–liquid separation. Technology maturity depends on both the advancement of …

The Deregulation Of Cancer, Daniel G. Aaron Apr 2026

The Deregulation Of Cancer, Daniel G. Aaron

Texas A&M Law Review

Fifty years ago, the U.S. embarked on a radical new path. Under pressure from the environmental movement, Congress passed an array of statutes aimed at regulating carcinogens out of our world. This regulatory experiment sprawled from air and water to food and consumer products.

Legal scholars have paid scant attention to this wave of cancer regulation despite its size and importance and the public’s apparent interest in avoiding carcinogens. But there is a growing literature finding flaws with individual regimes within the framework, such as the Clean Air Act, the Toxic Substances Control Act, and the Tobacco Control Act. In …

Resolving Bankruptcy's Non-Voting Impaired Class Issue Using The Nonfactor Solution, Jacob Harrington Apr 2026

Resolving Bankruptcy's Non-Voting Impaired Class Issue Using The Nonfactor Solution, Jacob Harrington

Texas A&M Law Review

In chapter 11 bankruptcy voting procedures, the issue of non-voting impaired classes can be a complicated issue, but the Southern District of Texas’s new “nonfactor” approach can be used as a lens through which different solutions to this issue may be understood. The United States Bankruptcy Code states that a bankruptcy plan may only be confirmed if every impaired class votes to accept the plan. But despite the statute’s apparent clarity, different jurisdictions’ solutions vary, some deeming non-voting impaired classes to plan. This Note demystifies the Bankruptcy Code’s approach to this matter, examines the different jurisdictional approaches to this issue, …

Further Development Of A Low-Energy Arc-Ignition System For Nytrox/Abs Hybrid Propulsion Systems, Stephen A. Whitmore, Jared S. Coen, Ryan J. Thibaudeau Apr 2026

Further Development Of A Low-Energy Arc-Ignition System For Nytrox/Abs Hybrid Propulsion Systems, Stephen A. Whitmore, Jared S. Coen, Ryan J. Thibaudeau

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Faculty Publications

Utah State University has developed a high-performance “green” hybrid propulsion technology based on the unique electrical breakdown properties of 3D-printed acrylonitrile butadiene styrene. Using 3D-printed ABS as fuel, typical startup sequences require approximately 5–15 joules and, once started, the system can be sequentially fired with no additional energy inputs required. The number of possible ignitions is limited only by the amount of fuel. The most technologically mature version uses gaseous oxygen (GOX) as oxidizer and 3D-printed ABS as fuel. While GOX is mass-efficient, it lacks volumetric efficiency unless highly pressurized. Nytrox, a blend of GOX and nitrous oxide, improves propellant …

Mastery By Mistakes: Reframing Failure In Higher Education Skill-Based Teaching And Assessment, Maura Metheny Apr 2026

Mastery By Mistakes: Reframing Failure In Higher Education Skill-Based Teaching And Assessment, Maura Metheny

JWU Dissertations & Theses

Experiencing a mistake, error or failure while learning generates an additional inquiry process that activates prior knowledge and increases retention of subsequent feedback and new material (Kapur, 2008). The use of errors to guide practice has been shown to lead to skill-mastery and expertise (Ericsson et al., 1993). When classrooms are psychologically safe environments where penalty-free exploration and knowledge application are encouraged, students gain a deeper understanding of the content (Tulis, 2013). This qualitative exploratory descriptive study aimed to understand the ways that undergraduate faculty in skill-based disciplines involve errors, mistakes and failures in teaching and …

Path Planning And Control For Vertical Takeoff And Landing Aircraft, Dean Benjamin Anderson Apr 2026

Path Planning And Control For Vertical Takeoff And Landing Aircraft, Dean Benjamin Anderson

Theses and Dissertations

One of the challenging problems of unmanned aerial vehicles (uav) is controlling vertical takeoff and landing (vtol) aircraft. Vtol aircraft can take off and land without landing strips while retain the efficiency of fixed-wing airplanes for long range flight. Unfortunately, the transition from takeoff and forward flight, and from forward flight to landing, is an extremely difficult control problem. Most current controllers for transition switch between flight regimes based solely on airspeed. The trajectory for such switching transitions is a straight vertical ascension followed by a straight forward startup flight; it does not allow for the development of more complex …

Electroenzymatic Cascades For Nitrogen Upgrading: Beyond Ammonia Towards Value-Added Nitrogen Chemicals, Rohit G. Jadhav, Vamshi Krishna Kamaja, Wassim El Housseini, Monica Brachi, Shelley D. Minteer

Chemistry Faculty Research & Creative Works

The global transition toward sustainable chemical manufacturing demands technologies that leverage natural carbon and nitrogen cycles while minimizing reliance on sacrificial reagents and fossil resources. These biogeochemical cycles are fundamental to life, and enzymes catalyze many of their key transformations. Bio electrochemical, specifically electroenzymatic, systems offer a promising route to sustainable synthesis by enabling selective redox transformations powered by electricity. However, whereas carbon-cycle enzymes are now well established in bio electrochemical synthesis, enzymes from the nitrogen cycle remain comparatively underexplored. Moreover, the nitrogen cycle alone does not access many value-added nitrogen-containing products, which require additional C-N bond formation and organic …

Chemistry Faculty Research & Creative Works

In the interstellar medium (ISM), non-local thermodynamic equilibrium situations are common due to low density, and one needs to consider the effect of molecular collisions in order to interpret the observations. Among the species detected in the ISM, cyanopolyynes, with the general molecular formula HC2n+1N (n = 1, 2, …), are characterized by large dipole moments and small rotational constants and constitute an indispensable class of candidates for the sensitive tracers of local density and temperature. We present a study of the collisional (de-) excitation of HC5N by para-H2 (p-H2) in its ground …

The Effects Of Dietary Protein Manipulation On Operant Demand, Brianna R. Lilly Apr 2026

The Effects Of Dietary Protein Manipulation On Operant Demand, Brianna R. Lilly

LSU Master's Theses

Previous work with dietary protein restriction in rodents has demonstrated that rodents fed a low protein diet exhibit physiological effects such as lower rates of weight gain and increased levels of circulating fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21). Dietary protein restriction also produces behavioral effects. Compared to rodents that are not protein-restricted, rodents that are protein-restricted exhibit increased food intake and higher preference for a protein vs. carbohydrate solution. Additionally, protein-restricted rodents will respond at higher levels for a protein reinforcer than non-restricted rodents. The current study assessed the effect of dietary protein restriction on operant protein demand during and after …
